The True Story of Matthew Shepard 'A Victim of Hate' ( RIP )
The True Story of Matthew Shepard 'A Victim of Hate' ( RIP )
"It was reported that Shepard was beaten so brutally that his face was completely covered in blood, except where it had been partially washed clean by his tears." Shepard had suffered fractures to the back of his head and in front of his right ear. He experienced severe brain-stem damage, which affected his body's ability to regulate heart rate, body temperature, and other vital functions. There also were about a dozen small lacerations around his head, face, and neck. His injuries were deemed too severe for doctors to operate. Shepard never regained consciousness and remained on full life support. While he lay in intensive care, candlelight vigils were held by the people of Laramie. Shepard was pronounced dead at 12:53 am on October 12, 1998, at Poudre Valley Hospital, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Police arrested McKinney and Henderson shortly thereafter, finding the bloody gun and Shepard's shoes and wallet in their truck From Wikipedia, en.wikipedia.org Matthew Shepard Foundation www.matthewshepard.org

Matthew Shepard - 10 Years Later
Ten years ago, Matthew Shepard, a young gay man from Laramie, Wyoming, was brutally killed because of his sexuality. This video is about remembrance. It contains footage from "The Laramie Project" and "Dear Jesse", as well as a cover of Elton John's wonderful song "American Triangle" (with an instrumental from Elton's Café). Rest In Peace, dear Matthew.

Dennis Shepard's courtroom speech
Dennis Shepard's courtroom speech
On October 6, 2008 it will be ten years since Matthew Shepard was the victim of a violent anti-gay hate crime on the outskirts Laramie, Wyoming. On October 12, 2008 it will be ten years since Matthew Shepard succumbed to the atrocious injuries he incurred. At the conclusion of one of his killer's trials on November 4, 1999, Matthew's father, Dennis, delivered a moving speech in open court. The audio that is heard in this video was inspired by that speech -- it is a adaptation & dramatization of Mr. Shepard's courtroom statement. It is an audio excerpt from the 2002 HBO film "The Laramie Project" in which Terry Kinney played the part of Dennis Shepard. Mr. Shepard's full speech/statement can be read here: www.wiredstrategies.com Another very moving delivery of this speech from a stage setting, performed by Cory Richards, can be found here: www.youtube.com To learn more please visit www.matthewshepard.org Many states have their own hate crimes legislation, but there are several that do not. It has been a long battle to try to a get a federal bill that includes LGBT citizens and we're not there yet -- please write your senators and congressperson to let them know it is important. Senator Kennedy has been spearheading a bill and has been doing a great job. The cause must continue. ---

Memoirs Of Matthew Shepard
Memoirs Of Matthew Shepard
In The Loving Memory Of Matthew Shepard 1976-1998 He was an inspiration to me during my teenage years. He taught me on how to be strong and be myself in this cruel world. Without his touching story, I wouldn't be who I am now. Being gay is not an offence, being gay is not a choice, being gay is not a sin. We just happened to be gay in the way this world surrounded us. If you embrace love then why love should be categorised? This is a tribute to one of the icon of my life. You will never be forgotten Mattie. You will always be in the empty space in my heart. I can see you waving at us in Heaven like an angel protecting all of us. RIP Heather Headley- If It Wasn't For Your Love Damien Rice- The Blower's Daughter Confusion overcomes me I know not where to stand. I'm like the falling of a leaf, NOT KNOWING WHERE TO LAND. I'm a single speck of dust, Lost in a galaxy of sand. My fear and fright control me, so I've lived society's way. I've always sensed my difference, I've always known I was gay. My courage finally surfaced, and I embraced the day. Hello world, I've found myself! Hello world, I'M GAY! I walk amongst the masses, my head up, proud and strong! I feel a pride within me, self confidence, it's been to long! My life is just beginning, a beautiful life to be! I live here in America, where it's my right to be ME! My freedom has been shattered, struck down before my time. Beat and battered and left to die, a victim of a hateful crime! Suddenly, my life is at it's ending ...

directed by Marinus de Goederen edited by Tjeerd Muller 'Poster Child' by Dutch band a balladeer is taken from their second album 'Where Are You, Bambi Woods?'. The song is about Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old student who was robbed, gun whipped and tied to a fence, probably because he was gay. He was left for dead in near-freezing temperatures. Eighteen hours later a biker found him, mistaking him for a scarecrow at first. Matthew Shepard died from severe head injuries on 12 October 1998. His murderers Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson are imprisoned for life. Matthew Shepard Foundation- 9th Annual "Bear To Make A Difference" Gala
Matthew Shepard Foundation- 9th Annual "Bear To Make A Difference" Gala
"Bear to Make a Difference" Gala Dinner & Celebrity Teddy Bear Auction October 16, 2010 History After Matthew's murder, hundreds of teddy bears were created and donated to his family in Matthew's memory. These bears are displayed at The Dancing Bear Museum and Folk Center in Thermopolis, Wyo., and are used to educate school children about diversity. They symbolize the international response to a hate crime that not only shook our nation, but also touched the hearts of children and adults throughout the world. In February 2002 a group of Denverites established a benefit for the Foundation in which prominent local personalities designed and dressed teddy bears in their image. In the years since, the event has become the largest annual fundraiser for the organization with attendees from around the nation. In 2010, the 9th Annual gala will be held at the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Awards In 2006, the Foundation established the "Making a Difference Award." Sculpted by award-winning artist Chris Navarro, this award is given at each year's gala to an individual who has shown a commitment to educating the greater community on diversity, respect, and human rights. This year's recipient is the Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire. Additionally since 2006, the Foundation annually awards the "Essential Piece Award" to one individual and one company which has been an "essential piece" in helping the Foundation achieve its ...
