i/sloʊˈviːniə, slə-, -njə/sloh-VEE-nee-ə; Slovene: Slovenija [slɔˈʋéːnija]), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: 
Republika Slovenija ,abbr.: RS), is a nation state in southern Central Europe, located at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes. It is bordered by Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. It covers 20,273 square kilometers (7,827 sq mi) and has a population of 2.06 million. It is a parliamentary republic and a member of the United Nations, European Union, and NATO.The capital and largest city is Ljubljana.
The territory is mostly mountainous with a mainly continental climate, with the exception of the Slovene Littoral that has a sub-Mediterranean climate and the north-western area that has an Alpine climate. Additionally, the Dinaric Alps and the Pannonian Plain meet on the territory of Slovenia. The country, marked by a significant biological diversity, is one of the most water-rich in Europe, with a dense river network, a rich aquifer system, and significant karst underground watercourses. Over half of the territory is covered by forest. The human settlement of Slovenia is dispersed and uneven.

Slovenian wine
Slovenian wine is wine from Slovenia. Viticulture and winemaking has existed in this region since the time of the Celts and Illyrians tribes, long before the Romans would introduce winemaking to the lands of France, Spain and Germany.
Today Slovenia has more than 28,000 wineries making between 80 and 90 million litres annually from the country's 22,300 ha of vineyards. About 75% of the country's production is white wine. Almost all of the wine is consumed domestically with only 6.1 million l a year being exported—mostly to the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and lately the Czech Republic. Most of the country's wine production falls under the classification of premium (vrhunsko) wine with less than 30% classified as basic table wine (namizno vino). Slovenia has three principal wine regions: the Drava Valley, Lower Sava Valley and Slovenian Littoral.
History
Unlike many of the major European wine regions, Slovenia's viticultural history predates Roman influences and can be traced back to the early Celtic and Illyrian tribes who began cultivating vines for wine production sometime between the 5th and 4th centuries BC. By the Middle Ages, the Christian Church controlled most of the region's wine production through the monasteries. Under the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, privately owned wineries had some presence in the region but steady declined following the empire's fall and the beginning of Yugoslavia. By the end of the Second World War, co-operatives controlled nearly all of the region's wine production and quality was very low as the emphasis was on the bulk wine production. The exception was the few small private wineries in the Drava Valley region that were able to continue operation.

In European elections, Slovenia is a constituency of the European Parliament, currently represented by seven MEPs. It covers the member state of Slovenia.

2004
The 2004 European election was the sixth election to the European Parliament. However, as Slovenia had only joined the European Union earlier that month, it was the first election European election held in that state. The election took place on June 13.
The biggest surprise was the victory of the New Slovenia party over the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia and the defeat of the Slovene People's Party, which did not win a seat. The parties on the right of centre that form the opposition in the Slovenian national parliament won this election.
2009
The 2009 European election was the seventh election to the European Parliament. The number of seats was increased to eight.

I spent 7 days travelling round one of Europe's best kept secrets, the gorgeous country of Slovenia.
Starting in the picturesque capital of Ljubljana, I then made my way round to Lake Bohinj, where I took the cable car up to Mt Vogel.
I went white water rafting near Bled before swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lake Bled itself.
Then I travelled round to the Soča Valley and stayed in Bovec where I went canyoning, zip-lining and took the cable car up to Mt Kanin.

Brda has been home to Rebula since the Middle Ages and records show that right here, on the terraces carved from the "opoka" soil, where the Alpine and Mediterranean climates meet, the deal conditions exist for this grape variety to thrive. This mix of unique terroir combined with a grape variety with deep historical roots in the area produces authentic and expressive wines with a distinctive mineral character. Combining an original and modern approach to vinification with the experience of past generations; the ambitious winemakers of Brda make wines from Rebula which are imbued with a special quality, unique to this region.

She has traveled here to take part in the Masterclass “Grand Vertical Tasting of the Finest Rebula Wines”. Since there were plenty of wine producers, influencers, writers and educators present at the event, Stevie was able to sit down with several fascinating characters to get their take on wine and culture in this region!
Brda is the home of Rebula aka Ribolla Gialla!
Brda has been home to Rebula since the Middle Ages and records show that right here, on the terraces carved from the "opoka" soil, where the Alpine and Mediterranean climates meet, the deal conditions exist for this grape variety to thrive. This mix of unique terroir combined with a grape variety with deep historical roots in the area produces authentic and expressive wines with a distinctive mineral character. Combining an original and modern approach to vinification with the experience of past generations; the ambitious winemakers of Brda make wines from Rebula which are imbued with a special quality, unique to this region.

The trip put the spotlight on the history and various styles of Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) wine in Vipava Valley, western Slovenia.
To say the trip was outstanding is an understatement. Many people who were tasting Slovenian wines for the first time were blown away. The event focused on small producers and all types of Rebula wines were present, from fresh and macerated to minimal intervention and conventional.

Pan-European electoral lists could ensure voters vote on European rather than national issues
Besides reducing Parliament’s size from 751 to 705 elected representatives, a proposed re-distribution of seats, approved by the Constitutional Affairs Committee on Tuesday, would also place 46 of the 73 UK seats to be freed up by Brexit in a reserve. Some or all of the 46 seats in the reserve could then be reallocated to new countries joining the EU and/or pan-European electoral lists. The other 27 former UK seats would be distributed among the 14 EU countries that are currently slightly under-represented. The COVID-19 crisis poses a particular problem for parliamentary democracy: internally, the European Parliament needs to adapt to a sudden process of digitalisation and remote participation; externally, the crisis disrupts legislative processes and the capacity to shape policy. Therefore, the COVID-19 crisis is a test to the institutional resilience of the European Parliament and its capacity to play a relevant role. This webinar offers an opportunity to discuss how the digitalisation of the EP has affected internal procedures and the role of different actors – from MEPs to EP staff. It also offers an opportunity to reflect about how the lockdown has shifted the position of the EP in the inter-institutional triangle and how it might affect its parliamentary role in the long term. This is particularly important in view of the upcoming Conference on the Future of Europe.

I spent 7 days travelling round one of Europe's best kept secrets, the gorgeous country of Slovenia.
Starting in the picturesque capital of Ljubljana, I then made my way round to Lake Bohinj, where I took the cable car up to Mt Vogel.
I went white water rafting near Bled before swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lake Bled itself.
Then I travelled round to the Soča Valley and stayed in Bovec where I went canyoning, zip-lining and took the cable car up to Mt Kanin.

Slovenia (i/sloʊˈviːniə, slə-, -njə/sloh-VEE-nee-ə; Slovene: Slovenija [slɔˈʋéːnija]), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: Republika Slovenija ,abbr.: RS), is a nation state in southern Central Europe, located at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes. It is bordered by Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. It covers 20,273 square kilometers (7,827 sq mi) and has a population of 2.06 million. It is a parliamentary republic and a member of the United Nations, European Union, and NATO.The capital and largest city is Ljubljana.
The territory is mostly mountainous with a mainly continental climate, with the exception of the Slovene Littoral that has a sub-Mediterranean climate and the north-western area that has an Alpine climate. Additionally, the Dinaric Alps and the Pannonian Plain meet on the territory of Slovenia. The country, marked by a significant biological diversity, is one of the most water-rich in Europe, with a dense river network, a rich aquifer system, and significant karst underground watercourses. Over half of the territory is covered by forest. The human settlement of Slovenia is dispersed and uneven.

She has traveled here to take part in the Masterclass “Grand Vertical Tasting of the Finest Rebula Wines”. Since there were plenty of wine producers, influencers, writers and educators present at the event, Stevie was able to sit down with several fascinating characters to get their take on wine and culture in this region!
Brda is the home of Rebula aka Ribolla Gialla!
Brda has been home to Rebula since the Middle Ages and records show that right here, on the terraces carved from the "opoka" soil, where the Alpine and Mediterranean climates meet, the deal conditions exist for this grape variety to thrive. This mix of unique terroir combined with a grape variety with deep historical roots in the area produces authentic and expressive wines with a distinctive mineral character. Combining an original and modern approach to vinification with the experience of past generations; the ambitious winemakers of Brda make wines from Rebula which are imbued with a special quality, unique to this region.

We were invited to "Vipavska Rebula Cesarjev Ižbor 1503" (Vipava Rebula: The Emperor’s Choice Since 1503), the first international showcase of Rebula wine from the Vipava Valley. The trip put the spotlight on the history and various styles of Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) wine in Vipava Valley, western Slovenia.
To say the trip was outstanding is an understatement. Many people who were tasting Slovenian wines for the first time were blown away. The event focused on small producers and all types of Rebula wines were present, from fresh and macerated to minimal intervention and conventional.

Besides reducing Parliament’s size from 751 to 705 elected representatives, a proposed re-distribution of seats, approved by the Constitutional Affairs Committee on Tuesday, would also place 46 of the 73 UK seats to be freed up by Brexit in a reserve.
Some or all of the 46 seats in the reserve could then be reallocated to new countries joining the EU and/or pan-European electoral lists. The other 27 former UK seats would be distributed among the 14 EU countries that are currently slightly under-represented.
Pan-European electoral lists are the most controversial element of the proposal, some think it will make MEPs more remote for citizens, others think the move will mean that voters can focus on European issues rather than national ones.
The committee agreed that the number of MEPs elected from an EU-wide electoral constituency in the future should match the number of EU countries, as soon as the completion of the ongoing EU electoral law reform allows it.

In the first session we presented the key findings of an analysis of debates on the future of Europe in 11 national parliaments and the European Parliament between 2015-2021 presented in a report “What future for Europe? Political actors’ narratives on European integration and democracy in national parliaments (2015-2021)”, edited by Magdalena Góra, Elodie Thevenin and Katarzyna Zielińska. The launch of the Conference on the Future of Europe on 9th of May 2021 has initiated an intensive process of consultations on reforms of the EU with citizens. However, the Conference is situated within the broader context of debates on the future of Europe (FoE) that has been taking place with various intensity since 2015. Parliaments (national and European) have been playing a special role in such debates as they form arenas where Members of (European) Parliament negotiate ideas, opinions, policy proposals representing interests of their respective (national) constituencies and political parties and as such mobilize mass support.

Martin Schulz (@EP_President) is President of the European Parliament. He was born in 1955 and grew up in Hehlrath Germany. Aged 31, he was elected as the youngest mayor of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 1994, Martin Schulz has been a Member of the European Parliament. In 2004 he was elected group leader of the Socialists and Democrats. He has been President of the European Parliament since 2012. On 1 July 2014 he was re-elected President, becoming the first President in the history of the European Parliament to be re-elected for a second term.

The LSE European Institute (@LSEEI) was established in 1991 as a dedicated centre for the interdisciplinary study of processes of integration and fragmentation within Europe. In the third episode of The Brussels Insider series we explore the topic of transparency in the European Union.
The European Union is often seen as a far away institution built on back-handed agreements and secret negotiations with nobody to hold the process or people accountable. Is this really the truth? Is the EU as opaque as some actors would have us believe, or is there more to the story?
We spoke with MEP Colm Markey and Parliamentary Assistant Una Clarke, both of whom have first hand experience with the EU's transparency measures. We also got the point of view of Vitor Teixiera - a Senior Policy Officer at Transparency International EU - an organisation whose mission is to prevent corruption and promote integrity, transparency and accountability in EU institutions, policies and legislation.

French President Emanuel Macron announced Sunday he was dissolving the National Assembly and calling a snap election after his centrist alliance was trounced by the far-right National Rally in the European Parliament elections.
According to the first exit polls, the National Rally won around 32%, more than double Macron's pro-EU coalition, which received 15% of the vote.
The first round of France's parliamentary election will be held on June 30 and a second round is scheduled for July 7.
Macron's government was already short of a majority in parliament, resorting to the use of special constitutional powers to bypass the legislature and force through multiple high profile laws.

What is the role of a Member of Parliament (MP) in Great Britain? How do MPs balance their allegiance to their party with their duties in their constituencies? What are the core values of the three main political parties in the UK? These questions and many more are addressed by MPs themselves in the two-part film “The British Political System.” In the documentary, Dr. Bob Beatty from the Washburn University Department of Political Science interviews eight members of the British Parliament and travels with three in their constituencies for a unique insight into the workings of the British Political System. Dr. Beatty’s research was partially funded by a grant from the Sweet Sabbatical Program at Washburn University, and the music for the film is performed by jazz artist Jim Beatty. Further assistance to the film was provided by Professor Richard Yates, Brenda White, Bertie Vickerstaff, Dave Brennan, Judith Smith, Mark Peterson, Stacey Beatty, Sandra Beak, Peter Beak, Cathy Tunnell, Alec Beatty and Keira Beatty. The film was shot on location in London, Cornwall, Rotherham, Sheffield, Wentworth, and North and South Yorkshire.

The COVID-19 crisis poses a particular problem for parliamentary democracy: internally, the European Parliament needs to adapt to a sudden process of digitalisation and remote participation; externally, the crisis disrupts legislative processes and the capacity to shape policy. Therefore, the COVID-19 crisis is a test to the institutional resilience of the European Parliament and its capacity to play a relevant role. This webinar offers an opportunity to discuss how the digitalisation of the EP has affected internal procedures and the role of different actors – from MEPs to EP staff. It also offers an opportunity to reflect about how the lockdown has shifted the position of the EP in the inter-institutional triangle and how it might affect its parliamentary role in the long term. This is particularly important in view of the upcoming Conference on the Future of Europe.
