Grateful Dead - Scarlet Begonias
Grateful Dead - Scarlet Begonias
05/08/77 As I was walkin' 'round Grosvenor Square Not a chill to the winter but a nip to the air, From the other direction, she was calling my eye, It could be an illusion, but I might as well try, might as well try. She had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes. And I knew without askin' she was into the blues. She wore scarlet begonias tucked into her curls, I knew right away she was not like other girls, other girls. In the thick of the evening when the dealing got rough, She was too pat to open and too cool to bluff. As I picked up my matches and was closing the door, I had one of those flashes I'd been there before, been there before. Well, I ain't often right but I've never been wrong. Seldom turns out the way it does in a song. Once in a while you get shown the light In the strangest of places if you look at it right. Well there ain't nothing wrong with the way she moves, Scarlet begonias or a touch of the blues. And there's nothing wrong with the look that's in her eyes, I had to learn the hard way to let her pass by, let her pass by The wind in the willow's playin' "Tea for Two"; The sky was yellow and the sun was blue, Strangers stoppin' strangers just to shake their hand, Everybody's playin' in the heart of gold band, heart of gold band.

Grateful Dead - Friend of The Devil
Grateful Dead - Friend of The Devil
Garcia,Dawson,Hunter Lyrics: I lit out from reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds Didnt get to sleep last night till the morning came around. Set out runnin but I take my time A friend of the devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. Ran into the devil, babe, he loaned me twenty bills I spent the night in utah in a cave up in the hills. Set out runnin but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine, If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. I ran down to the levee but the devil caught me there He took my twenty dollar bill and vanished in the air. Set out runnin but I take my time A friend of the devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night, The first ones named sweet anne marie, and shes my hearts delight. The second one is prison, babe, the sheriffs on my trail, And if he catches up with me, Ill spend my life in jail. Got a wife in chino, babe, and one in cherokee The first one says shes got my child, but it dont look like me. Set out runnin but I take my time, A friend of the devil is a friend of mine, If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight.

Grateful Dead - Truckin'
Grateful Dead - Truckin'
Grateful Dead - Truckin' Garcia;Lesh;Weir;Hunter Lyrics:Truckin got my chips cashed in. keep truckin, like the do-dah man Together, more or less in line, just keep truckin on. Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on main street. Chicago, new york, detroit and its all on the same street. Your typical city involved in a typical daydream Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings. Dallas, got a soft machine; houston, too close to new orleans; New yorks got the ways and means; but just wont let you be, oh no. Most of the cast that you meet on the streets speak of true love, Most of the time theyre sittin and cryin at home. One of these days they know they better get goin Out of the door and down on the streets all alone. Truckin, like the do-dah man. once told me youve got to play your hand Sometimes your cards aint worth a dime, if you dont layem down, Sometimes the lights all shinin on me; Other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been. What in the world ever became of sweet jane? She lost her sparkle, you know she isnt the same Livin on reds, vitamin c, and cocaine, All a friend can say is aint it a shame? Truckin, up to buffalo. been thinkin, you got to mellow slow Takes time, you pick a place to go, and just keep truckin on. Sittin and starin out of the hotel window. Got a tip theyre gonna kick the door in again Id like to get some sleep before I travel, But if you got a warrant, I guess youre gonna come in. Busted, down on ...

The Grateful Dead - Ripple (Studio Version)
The Grateful Dead - Ripple (Studio Version)
Link to the picture: thingstolookathigh.com Robert Hunter, wrote this song in 1970 in London in the same afternoon he wrote "Brokedown Palace" and "To Lay Me Down" (reputedly also drinking an entire bottle of retsina in the process). The song debuted August 18, 1970 at Fillmore West in San Francisco. Like many folk songs, "Ripple" addresses itself as a song and an instrument of the performers' emotional expression. Several lines throughout the song echo the 23rd Psalm of the Bible. Trip hard and good, motherfuckers.

Grateful Dead - Peggy O - 6-26-94
Grateful Dead - An amazing moment in time captured in Las Vegas in 1994. This one is all Jerry, frail yet strong and full of emotion. In my opinion, the solo alone is possibly one of the most poetic of Jerry's later years.

Grateful Dead Rocking the National Anthem
Grateful Dead Rocking the National Anthem
A stirring rendition of the National Anthem by Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Vince Welnick at Candlestick Park on April 12, 1993. Even in the later years, they could still belt it out. ALSO: A never-before-noticed UFO flyby occurs at 2:11 in this video. Note the object's unusual green hue. (Perhaps certain aliens just wouldn't miss this rendition for the world--literally...!)

Grateful Dead - Althea 03-28-81
Grateful Dead Live at Rockpalast Althea I told Althea I was feeling lost Lacking in some direction Althea told me upon scrutiny my back might need protection I told Althea that treachery was tearin me limb from limb Althea told me: now cool down boy - settle back easy Jim You may be Saturday's child all grown moving with a pinch of grace You may be a clown in the burying ground or just another pretty face You may be the fate of Ophelia sleeping and perchance to dream - honest to the point of recklessness self centered to the extreme Ain't nobody messin with you but you your friends are getting most concerned - loose with the truth maybe it's your fire but baby...don't get burned When the smoke has cleared, she said, that's what she said to me: You're gonna want a bed to lay your head and a little sympathy There are things you can replace and others you cannot The time has come to weigh those things this space is getting hot - you know this space is getting hot I told Althea I'm a roving sign - that I was born to be a bachelor - Althea told me: Ok that's fine - So now I'm out trying to catch her Can't talk to you without talking to me We're guilty of the same old thing Thinking a lot about less and less And forgetting the love we bring
