Roy Lewis (6 November 1913 – 1996) was an English writer and small press printer.
Although born in Felixstowe, Lewis was brought up in Birmingham and educated at King Edward's School. After studying at University College, Oxford, earning his BA in 1934, he went on to study at the London School of Economics. He began his career as an economist, but after serving as an editor on the journal, Statist, he became interested in journalism. He took a sabbatical in 1938 to travel to Australia and India. He married Christine Tew in 1939, after returning to England. They had two daughters.
Beginning in July 1939 he collaborated with Randal Heymanson to produce a newsletter called Vital News that they distributed confidentially to British and American government policymakers and bankers until December 1941.
From 1943 to 1946, he worked for the Peking Syndicate, a firm specialising in investments in China, but left to work as a journalist for the weekly, Scope. Hired by the Economist magazine, he served as its Washington, DC correspondent from 1952 to 1961. He settled full-time in England in 1961, where he became a feature writer for The Times, remaining with the newspaper until he retired in 1971. In 1957 he had set up the Keepsake Press, initially to hand print family ephemera. He soon began serious, though small-scale, production and by the time infirmity forced him to discontinue in 1990 he had brought out over a hundred titles.
The Lewis Family is a family of gospel and bluegrass musicians from Lincolnton, Georgia. They are known as the "First Family of Bluegrass Gospel".
The family was founded by Pop and Mom Lewis (Roy Lewis Sr. and Pauline Lewis, née Holloway), who married in 1925. In 1951 they chose the name The Lewis Family when singing at a Woodmen of the World meeting. Later that year, they did their first recording sessions, released on Sullivan Records. In 1954, they were offered a slot performing weekly on a television show in Augusta, Georgia, where they would appear until 1992. They began recording for Starday Records in 1957 and continued recording prolifically for Canaan, Riversong, Daywind, and others; they have released nearly 60 albums.
The Lewis Family started touring regularly in the 1960s, continuing into the 2000s; several generations of family members have entered the group as time passed. They also held an annual festival in their hometown, the Lewis Family Homecoming & Bluegrass Festival.
Roy Lewis, Jr. (born May 19, 1985) is a former American football cornerback. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Washington.
Lewis was named a team captain as a senior at Washington, initially enrolled at San Jose State but transferred to Washington following his freshman year; eventually he earned a major in American ethnic studies. He was named Pac-10 defensive player of the week and the team's defensive MVP after the win over Boise State in 2007. Lewis, who played linebacker and cornerback in high school and college, impressed Steelers coach Mike Tomlin with his physical play, leading the coaching staff to give him an opportunity at the safety position.
Lewis was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 28, 2008. After playing 1 game with the team in 2008, Lewis spent the 2009 preseason with the Steelers before being cut on September 4, 2009. He was activated on October 28.
A lewis (sometimes called a lewisson) is one of a category of lifting devices used by stonemasons to lift large stones into place with a crane, chain block, or winch. It is inserted into a specially prepared hole, or seating, in the top of a stone, directly above its centre of mass. It works by applying principles of the lever and utilises the weight of the stone to act on the long lever-arms which in turn results in a very high reaction force and friction where the short lever-arms make contact with the stone inside the hole and thereby prevents slipping.
The name lewis may come from the Latin levo -avi, -atum meaning to levitate or lift, but the Oxford English Dictionary Online states, "the formation and the phonology are not easily explained on this hypothesis", preferring "origin obscure", and speculating that the term may derive from a personal name. The Romans used the lewis. The specially shaped hole that is shaped to fit the device is known as a lewis hole. Lewis holes in the uppermost masonry coursings are neatly repaired with matching indented plugs after the stone has been set in place.
Lewis (first name and dates unknown) was an English cricketer who was associated with Middlesex and made his first-class debut in 1830.
Lewis is a crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies along the western edge of the Montes Cordillera mountains that surround the Mare Orientale impact basin. This crater has been heavily disrupted by the formation of the basin, and it is covered by ejecta from the impact leaving only an uneven depression in the surface. The outer rim is roughly circular, and the interior is uneven.

Plot: 7-year old Ted has diabetes. When he leaves the hospital, the doctor tells his mother Ann not to forget the insulin injections twice a day, which for Ted is a matter of life and death. At the same time as Ted leaves hospital, his father Roy leaves prison. During his six months in jail Roy has written a letter every week to his wife, but his mother-in-law has torn them up, to prevent her daughter from reading them. She has also convinced Ann to divorce. Roy rents a room in London, and then goes to Ann's house to visit her and their son. The mother-in-law tells him to stay away, because Ann and Ted don't want to see him anymore. In his despair Roy involves an old sweetheart in a plan to kidnap Ted. If she accompany them on the night train to Inverness, they will be perceived as a family, and thereby not evoke any suspicions. He doesn't know that Ted has diabetes and needs his injections. The police soon find out that Roy has kidnapped Ted, but they don't know where they have gone. Ann, the doctor and the chief inspector wait nervously at Scotland Yard for information, while the night hours are passing by. Ted must soon be found and get insulin, otherwise he will die.
