In the human anatomy, the chin is the lowermost part of the face.

It is formed by the lower front of the mandible.

People show a wide variety of chin structures. See Cleft chin.

The chin developed as a point of muscular attachment facilitating minute movements of the lips associated with speech. In human evolution, the chin is a cladistic apomorphy, partially defining anatomically modern Humans as distinct from archaic forms.

Chinawut-Stéphane Indracusin (Thai: ชินวุฒ อินทรคูสิน) also known as Chin, is a Thai singer, born on August 13, 1989 from a French mother and a Thai father.^[1] He started his career early on by signing up with the biggest record label in Thailand, GMM Grammy which selected him for the G-JUNIOR young artist development program.

- In 2003, Chin and two other musicians in G-JUNIOR, Jay and Guy came together to form a group named Big 3. The music they released at the time was labelled as hip hop but has since been re-categorized into pop and R&B.

- After the release of their album "We are Big 3", the boys decided to move on with their own careers. Chin and Guy released a second album in 2006 with G-JUNIOR and 10th Club.

- In 2007, Chin was finally given the opportunity to release his own album, "Chin Up" in May 2007. His first solo single that was unleashed, "Bpak Mai Trong Gub Jai" became extremely successful right away, staying on top of the Thai charts for many weeks in a row. As a result, Chin is today one of the top teen artists in Thailand.

- Chin went to New York City to work on his album 'Maybe I'm Bad'.

- In the Fall of 2008, Chin did a Malaysian commercial presenting a Sony Skinny T. For this commercial he recorded several of his songs in Chinese, including 'Term Mai Keuy Tem', 'Roo Chai Mai Wa Ruk' and more recently 'Keun Tee Neung'. He is now the presenter for Sony Skinny T Digital Camera in Malaysia and a singer of growing reputation in Malaysia as well.

- December 16, 2008 he released his second single album "Maybe I'm Bad" featuring his top 10 songs, "One Night Stand" or "Keun Tee Neung". Other well known songs from this new album include "Too Fast Too Serious" and "Hua jai mai chai gra-dard".

- So far, he has 3 music videos from this album, one for "Keun Tee Neung" featuring himself, "Too Fast Too Serious" featuring himself and Thai upcoming singer in the same label DUCKBAR, Fifi -Natasha Josephine Blake and finally one for "Hua hai mai chai gra-dart" featuring himself, his younger sister Sophie and Singaporian-Swedish model Ase Wang.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Abbreviation: CUHK or The Chinese University) is the second oldest university in Hong Kong. Its languages of instruction are English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. The school is also the home to the Yale-China Chinese Language Center.

The university has 61 academic departments organized under eight faculties: arts, business administration, education, engineering, social science, medicine, science, and law.^[2] Within these 61 departments are 117 undergraduate programs and 247 postgraduate programs.^[2]

The CUHK has a great achievement in Physical science and Mathematics and is the only tertiary education institution in Hong Kong with Nobel Prize Laureates being professors in it, including Chen Ning Yang, James Mirrlees, Robert Alexander Mundell and Charles K. Kao (Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics, 2009). Others include mathematician Shing-Tung Yau, laureate of the prestigious Fields Medal and Veblen Prize, and computational theorist Andrew Yao, laureate of the Turing Award.^[3]

In 2011, the Chinese University of Hong Kong was ranked 37th in the world, 2nd in Hong Kong and 5th in Asia by QS World University Rankings ^[4] but the QS department of Asian University rankings which releases an independent list each year ranked the CUHK 3rd in Hong Kong and 5th in Asia.^[5]

The university's founders hoped that it would become the bridge that connects China and the West, and to combine tradition with modernity.^[9]

Collegiate system[link]

As a collegiate university, it comprises seven colleges that differ in character and history, each retaining substantial autonomy on institutional affairs: Chung Chi College, New Asia College, United College, Shaw College, Morningside College,^[10] S. H. Ho College,^[11] and Lee Woo Sing College. All undergraduates are affiliated to one of them.^[12] Currently, two new colleges are to be established in the near future; namely Wu Yee Sun College and C. W. Chu College.

Colleges are communities with their own hostels, dining halls and other facilities. Students receive pastoral care and whole-person education, including formal and non-formal general education by means through close interaction with teachers and peers. Colleges promote extracurricular activities.

In 2005, The Chinese University of Hong Kong's budget was HK$4,558 million, with government subventions of about HK$2,830 million.^[14] In the 2008-09 fiscal year (starts April 1), total income was down to $4,413 million while government subvention had risen to $2,916 million.^[15]

The university's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCS) was established in 1965 under the name of the Department of Extramural Studies. In January 2006, the school was renamed the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Libraries and museum[link]

The university library system houses the Hong Kong Studies Archive, Hong Kong Literature Collection, Chinese Overseas Collection, Nobel Laureate GAO, Xingjian Collection, Nobel Laureate CY Yang Archive, American Studies Resource Collection and Modern Chinese Drama Collection.

CUHK also houses the Chinese University of Hong Kong Art Museum, which houses "a wide range of artifacts illuminating the rich arts, humanities and cultural heritage of ancient and pre-modern China."^[14] In 2010, The Chinese University of Hong Kong was chosen to be a part of the BBNM Group for its excellence in co-operation projects with the corporate world in Hong Kong.^[17] Today, they are represented among the BBNM Member schools.^[18]

Yale-China Chinese Language Center[link]

The Yale-China Chinese Language Center (CLC), formerly New Asia - Yale-in-China Chinese Language Center, was founded in 1963 under the joint auspices of New Asia College and the Yale-China Association. The center became part of Chinese University in 1974 and has been responsible for the teaching of one language education (Putonghua and Cantonese) of university students as well as other Putonghua and Cantonese learners. Courses are offered for non-native speakers and for native speakers of Chinese.

University programs are divided into Putonghua courses for local students, Cantonese courses for mainland Chinese Students and Putonghua and Cantonese courses for international exchange students

Programs are provided to public, with Putonghua/Cantonese courses for non-native speakers (Chinese as a foreign language/second language, CFL), and Putonghua/Cantonese courses for native Chinese speakers.

Transportation[link]

Although the campus is located away from the busier districts in Hong Kong, access to campus is easy. The university connects with the other districts of the city via the Mass Transit Railway and the Hong Kong bus system. Buses and trains stop by Chung Chi College.

Controversies[link]

Goddess of Democracy[link]

On 29 May 2010, when the CUHK student union sought to permanently locate a 'Goddess of Democracy' statue on campus, the administrative and planning committee of the University convened an emergency meeting for 1 June, chaired by incumbent Vice-chancellor Lawrence Lau, to consider the request.^[19] The application was turned down; the reason provided was the need for the University to maintain political neutrality. Staff and students objected to the refusal, however, accusing the committee of self-censorship; students declared they were prepared for a stand-off against the University, saying they would ensure the statues were accommodated on campus "at all costs".^[20]

A student meeting was convened, and student union President Eric Lai told 2,000 attendees that the University officials should apologise for their opposition of the art display.^[21] On 4 June, bowing to public outcry and student pressure, the University relented, and allowed the statue on campus.^[22]

Vice-chancellor designate Joseph Sung, who was consulted on the vote in absentia, admitted that it was the biggest political storm in 21 years. He revealed that, in addition to preserving political neutrality, safety and security concerns were factors in the decision. He also drew a distinction between this application - for a permanent University installation - and hypothetical applications for short-term expressions of free speech, suggesting the latter would have been more likely to be approved, but he criticised the management team as "immature" and "inexperienced" in handling the incident.^[19]

An editorial in The Standard criticised the committee's naivety in not anticipating the reaction. It was also highly critical of Sung for seeking to distance himself from the decision with such a "lame excuse".^[22] Outgoing Vice-chancellor Lawrence Lau defended the committee's decision as "collective and unanimous" after "detailed consideration," citing the unanimous vote of the administrative and planning committee, and he disagreed with Sung's characterization of the management team. While the vote was unanimous, however, Sung stated that he had suggested the wording of the decision include the qualification that the committee "had not reached a consensus."^[23]

The student union said the two professors should have communicated to reach a consensus, and that Lau's reply "failed to explain why the school used political neutrality as a reason to reject the statue."^[24]

Jimmie Chinn was an actor, teacher and most notably, a playwright.

Personal Info[link]

Jimmie was born in Middleton, Lancashire on March 30th 1940, the only son of his beloved mother, Edie. His early years in Oldham and Manchester were to shape his writing in future years. He came to London in 1959 where he trained as an actor at the RADA and worked in many aspects of the theatre. His short and very undistinguished career as an actor led him eventually to train as a teacher at Whitelands College, Putney, where he gained an honours degree in English and Drama. He taught and became a senior teacher and housemaster at Dormers Wells School in Middlesex until becoming a full-time writer in 1984. Jimmie became increasingly loved and admired not only in the professional theatre , but also in amateur theatre circles as a fine and talented actor, director, teacher, mentor and advisor.

Straight and Narrow[link]

On 18 March 1992 he had his first West End production. The play was Straight and Narrow which opened at the Wyndham's Theatre starring Nicholas Lyndhurst, Carmel McSharry and Neil Dalglish. It later moved to the Aldwych Theatre. The play was originally performed with his local theatre group, Theatre West Four in 1987, directed by the talented Jo Burnett.

Death[link]

Jimmy was diagnosed with COPD in the year 2000 and died after a long struggle with the illness on 29 January 2011.
