You are not Agnostic
You are not Agnostic
You are not agnostic Some people claim to be agnostic instead of atheist because they believe it is a less severe view of the disbelief of a God. They are mistaken in their understanding of the term Agnostic. It is not a step down to a softer form of atheism. Agnosticism and atheism are two completely separate categories of belief. The definition of agnostic is:"a person who believes that the existence of the ultimate cause, or God, is unknowable." This does not mean the person believes there is a god. Nor does it mean the person believes there is not a god. It is only referring the knowledge about a god. The definition of atheist is:" a person who disbelieves the existence of a supreme being. " This is referring directly to the belief that a god exist or not. It is not referring to the knowledge about a god or whether that knowledge is knowable. A person can be an agnostic atheist or an agnostic theist. That's right, you can believe in a god while simultaneously believing that the knowledge of the god you believe is unknowable. You can believe there is no god while simultaneously believing that there might be a god, but the knowledge is unknowable. How do you determine if you are atheist? That's easy, just determine whether you believe in a god or not. It is okay to say "I don't know", but that is not the question. We don't know if unicorns, leprechauns, or big foot really exist either. But you could still believe they do exist without knowing for sure. The question is ...

Why I'm an Agnostic
Why I'm an Agnostic
Not that anybody asked... ---------------------------------- I can not bring myself to be a religious person. I can not believe in Gods and Angels and Heavens and Hells. It all sounds too limiting, too convenient and too anthropomorphic. I don't think religious people are wrong in believing in it however. What matters is that you believe in something that fulfills you and as long as they don't try to enforce their morals and beliefs on me, whatever makes them happy is just fine with me. But I'm not ready to believe there is nothing after we die either. It may well be true. But its just as possible that it isn't. Looking superficially at the world, you may be led to believe that there is no life after death. That there is no God, no Creator of any kind, for if there is one, who created him ? But what do we really know about our existence ? To examine that, lets ask the most basic questions: Who What Why Where When Who Who are we? Yes we are humans, but are we alone, are we unique in the universe, or are there others like us? Do we die and disappear or do we live on in some way? We have no context. Nothing to compare us to except other animals born on our planet, from which we ourselves have evolved. Given the size and richness of the universe, that's a pretty small sample. What What are we? Yes we are living organisms of biological origin. But we know so little. How do our bodies really work? We have advanced immensely but we still can't change them, can't stop them from ...

Interview: Agnostic Loses Custody Of Kids
Interview: Agnostic Loses Custody Of Kids
Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) on MSNBC Live speaks with Craig Scarberry about losing custody of his kids because he is agnostic. Read the Transcript Here: www.alternet.org heraldbulletin.com Religion is, apparently, not "in" anymore, at least not the way it used to be, according to a new poll. Results show that in a single generation the Christian Church drop-rate has increased five-fold. That's a huge number. Goes on to show that "80% of people raised in a church will disengage before they are 30." On the other hand, there are some people who take religious devotion so seriously that they punish others for not sharing the same beliefs. That's exactly what seems to have happened in an Indiana courtroom recently. A father is fighting back after losing custody of his children in Indiana. Craig Scarberry has shared 50/50 custody of his three kids with his ex-wife for 4 years. But when that time was just recently reduced to 4 hours per week, he started digging to find out why, and he had a shocker. The Judge wrote, "The father did not participate in the same religious training as the mother ... father was agnostic." The ruling also stated, "... when the father considered himself a Christian, the parties were able to communicate relatively effectively."

Dear Awesome Agnostic People...
Dear Awesome Agnostic People...
There's nothing wrong with being agnostic, but I hope you'll hop down off the fence and give atheism a little test drive. Here's some reasons why! Julia Sweeney's awesome show: www.youtube.com And that Ricky Gervais thing I rambled too much about at the end there: blogs.wsj.com But yeah! Liberation and dignity! So true. Also, I know I didn't really get into defining agnosticism as either the belief that knowledge of god (or anything beyond the material) is unknowable, or the lack of both faith and disbelief. I basically lumped the technical and colloquial definitions together like a jerk. Sorry about that! I blame hipsters.

Why I am an Agnostic - Clarence Darrow
Why I am an Agnostic - Clarence Darrow
While I'm editing my latest video (looks like it's going to be 5 parts) I thought I'd do this quick one featuring an essay from one of my heroes, American lawyer and civil rights activist Clarence Seward Darrow. Perhaps best known for his role as the Defence Lawyer in the Scopes Monkey Trial, he struck a mighty blow against Christian Fundamentalism when he locked horns on the witness stand with the bombastic lawyer William Jennings Bryan one blisteringly hot day in Dayton, Tennessee. Darrow knew he couldn't win the case, it was open and shut. His client, a teacher, had taught evolution in school, and that was against the law. Darrow quickly saw the "larger picture" and realized he had to tackle head-on the thinking behind such a law, if he was ever going to have a hope of changing the law. Darrow lost the case, but he won a much bigger battle that day that Bryan took the witness stand. Darrow was also a very outspoken agnostic. This is an essay that he wrote on that subject.

Agnostic Front - Gotta Go
Band : Agnostic Front - Gotta Go ( www.facebook.com ) Album : Something's Gotta Give (1998) Label : Epitaph Records Link to Buy : ( www.interpunk.com ) REVIEW: From the founding fathers of New York Hardcore "Something's Gotta Give" is without a doubt one of AF's finest recordings ever. It skillfully blends the rawness and power of their early releases with the maturity they now posses. The title track sets the pace. Brutally aggressive music with smart lyrics and catchy choruses. Some outstanding tracks are the title track, "Believe and Voices," the sure to please "Gotta Go," with back up vocals by label mates Rancid, and surprisingly, the classic iron cross song "Crucified" a stable in their live shows.
