Peasemore is a village and civil parish in the English county of Berkshire in the United Kingdom. It is located in the West Berkshire unitary authority, west of the A34 road and north of the town of Newbury.

St Barnabas Church

Peasemore is a small village with a population of under 300 people. The nearest village shop and primary school is in Chieveley. Peasemore once had a village school, built in 1850, but it was closed in the 1950s. The old village post office in Hailey Lane closed around 1980 and was converted to a private residence. It still has a mail collection box in its wall, but this is only used to receive private mail now. However, the village is still home to a popular public house, The Fox & Hounds, a well used village hall, a cricket club & a large church dedicated to St Barnabas.

Sport[link]

The village has a cricket team, who were 2009 Brightwalton sixes champions. In 2010 the returned to defend their title but were beaten by West Ilsley in the final.

Peasemore is mentioned in the Domesday Book. There is a plate on the village hall relating the entry.

In 1978, Peasemore won Berkshire's best-kept village competition. The plaque for the award is placed on the entrance to St Barnabas' church.

Notable residents[link]

• David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since 2010 and Leader of the Conservative Party since December 2005, grew up in Peasemore.
• Miss Read, author, was temporary headmistress of the village school for several months.

Barry King (born 3 April 1945) is an English former decathlete who is now an author, corporate director and specialist in Olympic marketing and sports development.^[1] He is founder and chief executive officer of Outdoor-Fitness, LLC., co-founder of Sports Directions Corporation, and also serves on the board of directors at Imaginetix, Inc.

He grew up in England and obtained a track and field scholarship from the University of Colorado at Boulder in the United States. His first major international competition came when he represented England at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games, where he won the bronze medal in the decathlon. He then took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich two years later, competing for Great Britain. He ranked fifteenth overall in the Olympic decathlon competition. He returned to the podium at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand, this time coming away with the silver medal.^[2][3]

He also held several national records and won national championships in the decathlon, discus throw and pentathlon

King is co-author of a two-book series, published in association with the USOC, entitled The Olympic Challenge.^[4][5][6] Barry is married to Deanna King and has one daughter, Andrea.
