Scion IQ Commercial With Prince Paul, Ricky Powell & Jemz & Lloyd

Okay, I am not going to lie or try and gloss this over – yes, this is a commercial for the Scion IQ and yes, I am in it with Prince Paul, Ricky Powell, and Blu Jemz and Lloydski. But it’s pretty funny and plus, Prince Paul and Ricky fucking Powell. Anyway, peep game.

Cosmo Baker’s Top Ten List – March 2012

A few days late but what the hell, I had to wait for some of these amazing tunes to hit my inbox. This month I get get into the electro / synth sound via Chicago’s EchoDroides & Nashville’s Future Unlimited, and U-Tern shows up twice with his dance workout “You Don’t Know Me” and with under his Oliver moniker with Oligee for the Childish Gambino remix of “Heartbeat.” Calgary’s DJ Pump also shows up twice, with his reworking of the Chicago via Philly’s Vaggio as well as his disco edit of Linda Lewis. My new favorites Pat Lok and Moon Boots also show up, including a tough remix from Zimmer. Wonderwheel Records came through with the Juno What?! Roger Troutman inspired remix of  Pimps Of Joytime, and Brendon Moeller gets deep with his workout of Brooklyn’s own Eamon Harkin. Boston DJ Joey C brings his disco-inspired “The Way You Do It” and my Canadian friends Keys N Krates murder Miike Snow in a post-step manner. Hope you enjoy the tunes this month. There’s always so much great music coming out… And I love to share.

The Rub’s History Of Hip-Hop Series

We are ever so fortunate that Mixcloud decided to post all 31 years of our expansive ‘History of Hip-Hop’ series. This week, it all culminates with their posting of the 2000’s.

We’re looking for a Rub takeover on the Mixcloud homepage, so please be sure to take a few moments to listen, while at work or at home, to reacquaint yourself with the past decade of Hip-Hop.

This time capsule approach to each year uncovers a slew of already forgotten gems. Ayres says it best: ” I think that hip-hop has this canon of “old-school” jams that get played at parties and make it onto “greatest of all time” lists, but over time the canon shrinks, and you’re left with a bunch of songs that represent current tastes rather than what was good at the time. As a DJ this can be frustrating, because we don’t want to be limited to Biggie, Tupac, Tribe, etc. We love those artists and but also feel there are lots of other great forgotten artists who were maybe less influential but still have records that will rock at a party. So I hope the series can do something to push back against that narrow-mindedness, or forgetfulness, or whatever you want to call it, that shrinking awareness that happens over time. It would be a shame if in 20 years the Throwback at Noon show was comprised of only Eminem, Drake and Lil Wayne…”

Limited Edition Cosmo Baker North To South DJ Bag Out Now

Hi everyone. I have teamed up with my friends at the beautiful Nashville-based luggage company Tucker & Bloom to create these brand new   limited edition Cosmo Baker North To South DJ bags. They gave me some of their bags last year and it was by far the best and nicest DJ bag that I had ever used. Then we decided that, with my input, we could create a custom design that was even nicer…

Via TurntableLab: “Need help choosing a DJ bag? Don’t listen to your friend that got in the game 4 months ago, listen to veterans like Cosmo Baker: ‘Being on the road over 150 days per year, I need a bag that is all business. Functionality is key but that doesn’t mean that one should sacrifice style. Together with Tucker & Bloom, we’ve created this DJ bag that no only works perfectly with my lifestyle. I’ll throw my laptop in, some vinyl and my DJ gear, a book, a change of clothes and toiletries, and I’m out the door.’ There you have it, a versatile, stylish, and durable bag for vinyl and/or digital DJs. Get on it.”
