Type XXI Elektroboat U-Boat Wunderwaffe "Wonder Weapon"
CORRECTIONS TO PAGE ONE: Type XXI U-boats "Elektroboote" After World War II, the victorious powers (US, UK, Soviet Union)copied the German design for the Type XXI, which is considered the first real submarine. CORRECTIONS TO PAGE TWO: The Type XXI arrived too late for combat, but was used to rescue many German civilians from the Soviet Red Army and the constant Allied bomber attacks on German cities. This happened in violation of Hitler's orders which stated that no civilians were to be be allowed aboard u-boats for any reason, even for rescue.

U-Boat / Das Boot Tribute Video (music by Klaus Doldinger)
U-Boat / Das Boot Tribute Video (music by Klaus Doldinger)
This is a tribute to all the men who served in the U-Boat service during world war II. These men were incredibly brave. I made this video using original & rare photographs and music by Klaus Doldinger from the epic series/film 'Das Boot' . When I first saw 'Das Boot' it gave me a different perspective of World War II, it was intriguing to look at the situation from the German point of view. I'm an Englishman but I very much wanted the U-96 and her crew to make it back home, I believe thats what makes 'Das Boot' so special.

Silent Hunter V - Type VII U-boat walkthrough
Silent Hunter V - Type VII U-boat walkthrough
Here's a preview of the upcoming Ubisoft game Silent Hunter 5. To discuss this and other sub games, dive to SUBSIM: www.subsim.com Yes, SH5 will be the first subsim to feature full boat access with an interactive crew. Regardless of the DRM controversy, there is a lot to be said for this feature. For most, playing a simulation involves good gameplay, AI, and immersion—that quality software designer Mike Rozak described as making players forget they're playing a game * Silent Hunter V takes the player out to sea inside a 60-meter steel tube with a crew of Kriegsmarine sailors (28 in this case) against the capricious sea and the mighty Royal Navy. It sure beats staring at a 2D bitmap of a static, empty control room! www.subsim.com Note, this is a preview version, it is not the final game. * www.mxac.com.au

U-Boat Survivors
U-Boat Survivors
U-Boat Survivors (DVD video) In 1959, General Electric surprised the industry by introducing a new line of roadswitchers called the Universal Series. Known affectionately as "U-Boats," these powerful locomotives are loved for their unusual appearance, their distinctive chugging sounds, and their tendency to spew thick clouds of sooty black smoke into the air. This tribute to the U-Boat presents the entire line in chronological order, beginning with the revolutionary U25B. Key identification features are pointed out and statistical data are shown for each model, much like a spotter's guide on video. Seen in action are: Southern Pacific U25B #3100, Lake Superior & Ishpeming U25C #2501, Blue Mountain & Reading U33B #3303, Nashville & Eastern U36B #5772, and Providence & Worcester U18B #1801. Also featured are U28Bs from the BN, P&LE, and Rock Island on Transkentucky Transportation; U30Bs from CSX on the Georgia Central, and Burlington Northern U30Cs on the LS&I. Additional models include Squaw Creek Coal U33Cs, Conrail U23Cs, Providence & Worcester U23Bs, New Jersey Transit U34CHs, National of Mexico U36Cs, and many, many more. Our camera crews traveled across the country, seeking out and recording surviving U-Boats. The result is a terrific collection of exciting video images found nowhere else. Experience the sights and sounds of these early diesel locomotives one more time as you view the U-Boat Survivors!

www.breitlingsource.com - A video review of the massive (but not the most massive) 50mm U-Boat Flightdeck Chronograph watch designed by Italian designer Italo Fontana. Features a bone stock Valjoux 7750, but makes up for that with ridiculous size and wrist presence. Decent construction as well.

Discovered: Hitler's secret escape U-boat Type XIB sunk off Cape Cod on 25th August 1944
Edward Michaud discovers German Type XIB U-Boat off Cape Cod - Project CA35 (1998). Tony Gosling, Edward Michaud. Hitler's secret escape sub Type XIB sunk off Cape Cod on 25th August 1944 while attempting to negotiate early end to WWII en route to Argentina Apologies for the somewhat sloppy interview technique here but I think you'll agree the historic content makes it all worthwhile. Nazis fleeing Germany in 1944 used this unique submarine with a massive cargo hold (to carry gold?) in an attempt to secretly escape to the United States and thence to Argentina. They never made it past Cape Cod where the sub was sunk with depth charges dropped by a US Navy blimp. The sub was jamming radio frequencies which was unfortunate, if the blimp's radio had been working it would have almost cretainly been told NOT to sink the sub. Recorded by Tony Gosling in Framingham Mass. December 1998. See also www.combatsim.com Very little is known about the Type XI-B U-Boat. All official histories state that the vessel type was never built and numerous publications indicate that the Type XI-B submarine design went only as far as a preliminary 'keel laying' at the building yards of Deschimag - AG Weser in Bremen, Germany. However, there is a subtle hint that at least one vessel of this type was indeed launched from the Deschimag yards. Contained within the records of the Military archive at Freiburgim-Breisgau, Germany is a brief mention of the "actual" yard trials in the Weser River of the Type ...

MAN U-boat diesel engine Running
MAN U-boat diesel engine Running
Running MAN WW1 diesel egine at 375 RPM producing 430 HP. This is a world war 1 U-boat engine build in 1917 by Blom & Voss in Hamburg to operate in a german submarine. However this engine never made it into a U-boat as the war was running to an end. The engine was stored en transfered to Holland during World War 2 to operate as a generator egine in a water supplying company where it was producing power up to the 1960's. It's a four stroke engine with six cilinders and a overhead camshaft. The exhaust valves are water cooled. Attached to the engine is a four step, high pressure air compressor which provides about 80 Atm neccesary for the diesel injection as common fuel pomps where not developed yet.
