FFTA - Animist SSCC Part I: Desert Peril ( + Intro )
FFTA - Animist SSCC Part I: Desert Peril ( + Intro )
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Challenge: Montblanc Solo Animist I was about to begin a Ninja Solo game but figured it'd be too similar to the ones done previously and very possible thanks to great damage potential and Double Sword. I began thinking of other challenges that would be more difficult and came up with this. Hopefully, it will be both the hardest challenge I've played in this game AND possible (I'm almost positive of the former but the latter still gives me doubts). Why Animist? Animists have average stats and poor damage dealing potential, making it difficult for them to defeat enemies the straightforward way. On the other hand, the variety of active abilities at their disposal is diverse and rich, giving us many tactics to exploit and mess around with. Why Montblanc? Marche's friend is generally called the most useless character in the game and for a good reason. Not only is he worse than generic moogle magicians, moogle mages are inferior to other ones in the first place. An Animist with Montblanc's stats makes the playthrough an extra challenge, as his physical attack is even more terrible and his stats only suit a Black Mage and not really any other moogle class. Rules: 1) Only Montblanc may be used with the Animist class (and no other) assigned. 2) Marche must be unequipped for every battle to ensure your strategy doesn't solely depend on him as a tank. The exception to this rule is the mission Jagd Hunt, where Marche can be allowed Damage - MP as he ...

FFTA - Animist SSCC Part IV: Jagd Hunt
FFTA - Animist SSCC Part IV: Jagd Hunt
This video was ready a month ago but I had serious trouble rendering it after all the editing was done. Hopefully, I'll be able to upload all the Animist SSCC videos that are worth your attention in the next week or so (I have over 30 GB of FFTA recordings on my hard disk right now :o. Most aren't anything flashy though so I won't upload those). There seems to be a very similar "queue" in my other series as well so be patient, k? Jagd Hunt was an incredibly annoying mission. There are still no easily accessible options to heal (however, there ARE two ways to restore your HP in this battle), the enemies are numerous and there are no laws that you could manipulate in your favour to make the battle somewhat easier. Although the Item command is banned in this challenge (just like it is in any other SSCC), I had to make an exception and allow it BUT *only to revive Marche when one single enemy remains on the field*. It's a Jagd so if Marche dies it's game over. And there's no bloody way Marche can survive here, not even a 0,01% chance, I imagine. On this attempt (after more than half a hundred failures), Marche dies immediately. The Assassin has an instant death attack and is therefore an opponent we shouldn't allow to come too close to us. That is easier said than done, however, as she is fast and WILL take 2 turns per Monty's one from time to time (depending on what he does). Then there's the Ninja. Double Sword essentially ends the battle, but I haven't had such close ...

FFTA - Animist SSCC Finale: Li-Grim
FFTA - Animist SSCC Finale: Li-Grim
Don't forget to watch in high quality: www.youtube.com I'm really fond of this video and I hated to see its quality ruined by YouTube's compression so after I found out how to upload videos for the best quality I decided I'd reupload this one in a format that's actually watchable. Thanks, Archael! Copy&paste from the old video description follows. After Llednar, who can be taken down easily in just three hits, and Remedi's first form, which can kited along with its dumb Totema, Li-Grim is one hell of a challenge. Having tried every single tactic I could think of, I realised that cunning alone does not give me any chance to win. Negative status effects cannot do much in this battle and though technically I could cast Sheep Count to induce sleep I see absolutely no reason to do so. That made me go a save back and level until Montblanc was level 40. After that, his defences were good enough to handle the boss with a bit of luck. The only reliable tools we have are Attack (less damage than Chocobo Rush, used to conserve MP; also, unlike CR, can hit critical which we hope for), Combo (used once when facing the enemy and you'll see why I regret not leaving it until the final hit), Chocobo Rush (when the enemy is far away: hit from afar and choose 'Wait' to get another turn in quicker, better than rushing towards the enemy and using the regular attack; I also once killed a Mateus without even targeting them deliberately and those girls are better eliminated), 100% Wool (sets up ...

FFTA - Animist SSCC Part III: Adrammelech
FFTA - Animist SSCC Part III: Adrammelech
An insanely hard battle. I found out it's impossible to do this battle without charming the dragons, so I had to do the missions to get the weapon of a high rank that teaches the skill that charms the enemy. And even with it, it's still a lottery, one in which you're very unlikely to win at that. There are four enemies against you. FOUR. Montblanc is one against four dragons, all of whom are deadly on offence. And Montblanc as we all know is not all that heroic. Our strategy is to get to one of the northern corners without being hit, setup Protect and Shell and wait for the dragons to come. In this position, only one enemy at a time may hurt Montblanc, with one exception: Adrammelech may suddenly realise that he's not having any luck reaching you with any of his moves and will move to the other corner to Firestream your poor moogle ass. I had many game overs because of that. However, I had many game overs because of virtually anything. Even making it to one of the corners requires a lot of luck, and since we can't heal any couple of attacks that aren't supposed to connect due to low accuracy but still do will end the battle or make it impossible to continue. When in the corner, there are two main things to worry about. The first one is the aforementioned Adra nuance. He must be attacked constantly, which seems to make him involved in the battle more, in which case he's reluctant to move away to the other corner. All he can do in that position is damage your MP which is ...

FFTA - Animist SSCC Part V: The Bounty
FFTA - Animist SSCC Part V: The Bounty
After the couple extra levels gained in order to stand a chance against Adrammelech (one hell of a boss), Montblanc's naturally high defences resulting from Animist stat gain allow him to take very little damage from the enemies in this level. It should be noted here, for those who don't know, that casting Protect/Shell boosts your defences in a different way from some other RPGs. It doesn't actually reduce a percentage of the damage (1/2, 1/3, etc.) and seems to be even more effective when the damage without those statuses applied is already low as it is. For instance, an offensive action normally dealing 14 damage will take off mere 1 HP. I never looked at any formulae to find out how damage calculation works but this is an observation I have to share with those who, not unlike me, never bothered to study the game mechanics. Basically, always being in Protect/Shell status is important as you absorb a lot of damage. When there are not as many enemies on the field, you don't have to worry about it. But this battle is far from easy. If Monty gets poisoned, he won't be able to survive the battle until he dies. Both the Red Mage and the Sage can do that to him. The Fighter is the most dangerous unit as far as raw damage potential goes; however, the Time Mage's spells are more dangerous. The real reason why this battle is tricky enough to deserve its own video is the fact that the Paladin in this mission knows Cura, Life AND has a Ribbon. The latter means that he will not get ...

Was Jesus an Animist?
Was Jesus an Animist?
In Matthew 21:18-22 and Mark 11:12-14 & 19-25, Jesus and the disciples came upon a fig tree. The fig tree was barren of fruit, and this disappointed Jesus, so he cursed it (or so the Bible says) and caused it to wither. It's especially perverse because it wasn't the season for fruit (in the video I misspoke and said it was). This idea that something inanimate like a rock or tree can be held responisble and punished is animism, the belief in spirits inhabiting natural objects that Christians today don't believe have souls. This account shows Jesus held animist beliefs.

FFTA - Animist SSCC Part II: Famfrit
FFTA - Animist SSCC Part II: Famfrit
A difficult boss but with the help of some luck is made very well possible. An obvious thing to do is to enter the battle when Fight is banned. Otherwise, the Ahrimen will quickly rape you and there will be not much opportunity to pull off any tactic. Banning Fight causes no disadvantages to the boss for obvious reasons (he can still physically attack you as he only receives yellow cards, which do nothing to him anyway), and Ahrimen are still able to hurt you in different ways. That is: Roulette (death), darkness (no point to continue the battle afterwards), confusion (might as well restart in most cases) and decrease of offensive capacity (you won't be able to defeat the boss before he takes you down in that case). Since you have to face the boss all the time for better evasion and Ahrimen tend to surround him, darkness and confusion are serious threats. The battle essentially depends on how long it takes Famfrit to kill Marche and what moves he chooses to use. Demi can't kill anyone but Breath of God is an OHKO (unless Montblanc is under Protect, and there is no time for that). I was incredibly lucky here, as Marche actually survived until the end of the battle.
