Ry Cooder - Down In Hollywood 1/2
Ry Cooder - Down In Hollywood 1/2
From "Ry Cooder & The Moula Banda Rhythm Aces: Let's Have A Ball", a film by Les Blank taped at The Catalyst, Santa Cruz, CA on March 25'th 1987. Band introduction. Nice Jim Keltner solo. Comment from MrBillindallas: They shot some promo pix in San Francisco on this mini-tour for a drum endorsement. The photog asked Mr. Keltner if he wanted to take his sunglasses off for some of the photos. He dryly replied, "If I took my glasses off nobody would know that it was me." Great guy - great drummer - a real pro. Another comment from MrBillindallas: Concert was from a two night run - the last of nine total dates on the NorCal tour. Shot on 16mm film with an audio remote truck in the alley. Movie was released in Europe but not in the US. Great band, at one of the best venues in the 'States, the last two nights of the mini-tour they were truly on fire. One venue was so small the band filled the stage and the dance floor. Setlist for the two nights in Santa Cruz: 3-24-87 Santa Cruz, CA (the Catalyst): Showtime Little Sister Smack Dab In The Middle Lets Have A Ball Me and Frank unknown title [Spanish lyrics] Hell Have To Go If Walls Could Talk Jesus on The Mainline How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times & Live? Ry Cooder, John Hiatt and the boys with their final number from The Late Show in 1992. Fellers, just Don't Think About Her When You're Trying To Drive. I tried it once and ended up in a ditch. It's the curves, apparently - not to mention those lips, those eyes, that hair... Little Village, The Late Show, 1990. www.rycooderstuff.co.uk

Legendary studio drummer Jim Keltner and fellow drummer Gene Stone speaking at the memorial for drum teacher Freddie Gruber, November 13, 2011, at the Sportsman's Lodge in Sherman Oaks, California. Freddie Gruber lived from May 27, 1927 - October 11, 2011. My apologies for the shaky cam at the beginning. I was Fred's student for 5 years, beginning in the early 1970's.

Sean Lennon, Yoko, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner- Yer Blues
Sean Lennon, Yoko, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner- Yer Blues
From Yoko's dress rehearsal for her birthday show. A loose jam on Yer Blues with Sean having just met Klaus Voorman for the first time ever and the wonderful Rev. Jim Keltner on drums. Again, forgive the bad videography, but Yoko has very large security guys who were prowling the front rows. Sean did a great job leading the various musicians throughout the night and this seemed like a chance for him to get loose and have some fun. Seeing Klaus and Jim Keltner on stage was lovely.

Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, John Hiatt, Jim Keltner - Crying In My Sleep
Here's Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and the boys with Crying In My Sleep. This great song is originally from Nick's 1988 album Pinker and Prouder Than Previous (on which John Hiatt also played, but not on this track), revved up by Little Village for their 1992 live shows and revived by Ry and Nick for their 2009 shows in Europe, Japan and the Antipodes. Here's Ry Cooder and the boys with another great rendition of the Rev. William "Billy The Kid" Emerson's number - which, of course, Ry recorded for his 1980 Borderline album (on which both John Hiatt and Jim Keltner play). Sam The Sham also had a pop at this one.
