Growing up with poverty and hardship, he started expressing his thoughts and emotions musically from very early age. Ektara, a traditional single string instrument has been his constant companion. His songs had spell-binding effects on the people in and around his village, not to mention his melodic, soothing and pleasingly rustic voice. He was so indulged in music that unlike other typical Bangladeshis he failed to engage in some 'jobs' and continued entertaining people with his music (by and large, music is yet to be recognized as a full grown profession in Bangladesh). However, poverty forced him to get into agricultural labour. But nothing could stop him from making good music. As he was growing up, he received training on spiritual and baul music from Kamal Uddin, Shadhak Rashid Uddin, Shah Ibrahim Mastan Baksh. His versatility ranged from Baul song, Spiritual song to Bhatiali. He went on learning all the exclusive modules of Baul song afterwards along with Shariatti, Marfatti, Nabuot, Belaya, the various devout form of music. He was motivated by philosophy of renowned Lalan Shah, Panju Shah and Duddu Shah.

khan saheb abdul karim khan was from Miraj & was court singer with the mahraja of Kohlapur & sang this song in 1925-26. in raga jhinjhoti in thumri style. Khan saheb died in 1937.Saigal sang this song in 'devdas' in 1935under the music direction of Timir Baran so beautifuly & khan saheb was so pleased that he congratulated saigal.

Here is an audio recording of Utd. Abdul Karim Khansaheb, reviver of the Kirana Gharana (if not founder) singing the very popular "Prem Seva Sharan" Marathi Natyageet based on Raag Bhimpalas. One of the reasons for Khansaheb's popularity throughout India was his ability to pick up region-specific and culture-specific songs. His ability to render North Indian Ghazals, West Indian Natyageets, and South Indian Bhajans is unparalleled. This recording is a testament to that. Khansaheb has also sung the popular Natyageet "Nach Sundari Karu Kopa' (based on Raag Jaijaiwanti). Many of Khansaheb's students started their careers (during and following tutelage) in Natya Sangeet, like Pt. Sawai Gandharva, Smt. Hirabai Badodekar and many others. Many artists today feel that Marathi Natya Sangeet is a degeneration from the "more advanced" Hindustani Shastriya (Classical) Music. Ustad Abdul Karim Khan lived from November 10, 1872 to 1937. He is widely considered to be one of the most important figures in Hindustani music of the 20th century. Abdul Karim Khan was born in Kirana (Uttar Pradesh, North India) in to the Kirana musical family which traced its roots to musician brothers Ghulam Ali and Ghulam Maula. His father, Kale Khan was the grandson of Ghulam Ali. Karim Khan received training under uncle Abdulla Khan and father Kale Khan. He also received guidance from another uncle Nanhe Khan. Apart from vocals and sarangi, he also learnt Veena (Been), Sitar and Tabla. According to a story, he was initially a sarangi player, but decided to switch to vocals because of low status of sarangi players. In early years he used to sing with his brother Abdul Haq. The Baroda ruler was impressed by this singing duo and made them the court musicians. This is where he met Tarabai Mane, who was the daughter of Sardar Maruti Rao Mane, a member of the royal family. When they decided to get married, they were ousted from Baroda. The couple settled down in Bombay. In 1922 Tarabai Mane left Abdul Karim Khan, which apparently had a major impact on his music - making it pensive and meditative. Karim Khan's first wife, Gafooran was the sister of another Kirana master Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan, who was also his cousin. (Hummaa)

The disciple looked straight in to ba ba ji eyes and every thing was changed. According to ba ba ji as the person looked into his eyes ba ba ji lost control on himself coming closer to him, bowing down to touch his feet to show respect and submission. After this event ba ba ji renounce the worldly interest and entered thoroughly in the spiritual world. Generosity: Ba ba ji was very generous. Before coming to sufism ba ba ji used to be a successful businessman, having too much wealth, but entering the Sufism he distributed all his wealth having nothing left jus to feed his own kid. One day the close relative came to him telling you did wrong having distributed your every thing. The meaning of the chorus describes his amazement with regards to respect for the Qur'an. He goes on to describe how his pen is speaking on its own in describing his longing to meet Allah, and he tells it to repeat what it just said. One can get an idea of how deep the arabic language is. Hence the nasheed is about ikhlaas(sincerity for the sake of Allah) and also about having a loving respect for the book of Allah. May Allah (Azza-wagal) help us increase our ikhlaas towards Him, and grow our love for His book. Ameen The singer is from Amman Jordan, his mother is African, while his dad is white Jordanian. He has many other nasheeds as well, most contain music, I have added some of his other nasheeds as well, and will inshaAllah continue to do so - subhanAllah his voice is amazing! :)

In the early decades of this century, Khan Saheb Abdul Karim Khan dominated the world of Hindustani music for well over a generation, and he was a trend setter in this world in more than one sense. He created a new style or gharaana and gave an elan to the history of Hindustani music. He has been acclaimed as the "maestro who conceived, evolved, and popularised the Kirana gharana", and in fact, he changed the entire mood of Khayal and Thumri-singing. Dr. SN Ratanjankar wrote to me once about him: "In the late Ustad Abdul Karim Khan Saheb's sweet, tender, and tuneful voice, the Hindustani melodies appeared in a role and mood quite different from those in which they presented themselves in other voices...It was like a walk in a cool, moon-lit garden of sweet-smelling flowers that one felt when listening to the perfectly tuneful, and dreamy cadences of Khan Saheb's music One was lifted up into a dream land. The dream haunted the mind long after the music had ceased. The Khan Saheb never sang a raga, but was in holy communion with it.
