Tame Impala Finish New Album

By Will, March 27th 2012

A message on Tame Impala’s website greets fans with the best news you could ask for: They have completed work on their new album.

That’s the message that you can find at their site. The band also included their recent interview with Under The Radar where Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker spills some beans on the new album.

Parker described the new album as “A combination of nice sugary pop crossed with really fucked-up explosive cosmic music. It’s like Britney Spears singing with The Flaming Lips.” Parker wrote a majority of the album in his home studio in Perth, Australia. To help deal with fans expectations of the new album he “convinced himself he wasn’t writing Tame Impala songs at all.”

It’s a good read, and one that you can scope out here.

Air France Break Up

By Will, March 27th 2012

Air France graced our ears in 2008 with their fantastic No Way Down EP. It’s sad to see that the band has called it quits. The band posted a sad letter on their tumblr, sharing their reasons for disbanding.

The band never could follow-up the EP, saying “we’ve never been able to finish anything, nothing was ever good enough. We have tried so hard, and we truly gave it all we had. And now we have decided to stop trying, even though it breaks our hearts.”

It’s sad that we never got to hear another full release (they did release a song last year, listen to that song, “It Feels Good To Be Around You” right here)

Find the whole post at their tumblr, or find it below, after my favorite Air France song, “No Excuses”.

By Will, March 25th 2012 — with 2 comments

If you were like me and saw the following message on The Morning Benders facebook page, you were very worried that the band was breaking up.

Thankfully that is not the case. The band is changing their name to POP ETC. The band posted a long thoughtful explanation for the change over at The Morning Benders website. You can find the whole thing posted after the jump.

You can find the band at the POP ETC website, where they have uploaded a free mixtape full of new music from the newly titled version of the band. Head here for all the goodies, and check out the letter from Chris Chu below.  But first, here’s “Everything Is Gone”, a new song from the mixtape.

Bloc Party Sign with Frenchkiss Records

By Will, March 22nd 2012

Good news Bloc Party fans. The band has signed to Frenchkiss Records, proving that they have not broken up, regardless of what the media says. Bloc Party frontman Kele posted the following message on their website this morning:

Hello Internet

It is with great pleasure that i would like to announce to the universe that Bloc Party have now signed to Frenchkiss Records. This signing has made Bloc Party very happy because not only do we know and love the people at this label but we know and love this label’s output. Frenchkiss has released some mighty fine music over the years, music that has gone on to influence this very band.

So here’s to some more mighty fine music…

Kele

We can expect a new album sometime soon. In the meantime the band has announced a summer tour of festivals. No New York date yet, but hopefully that will change this fall. Hit the jump for the dates.

Writers Wanted For 10 Guest Posts!

By Will, March 13th 2012

So I’m one of the few music bloggers not representing at SXSW, and I’m pretty bummed about it. With all eyes focused on Austin, Texas, for the week, the music world is going to be be moving a little bit slowly. Rest assured, I will continue updating you guys with news and fresh sounds. But with the slow week ahead, I wanted to try something new that involves YOU.

With a slow week, I wanted to offer 10 of you a chance to get a piece of writing or post on the site. It’s pretty simple. Send a post or article of some sort to me at weallwantsomeone@gmail.com, and if it’s thoughtful, decently written, not about Lana Del Rey, and generally fun, I’ll post it. You can write about your favorite new band, a cool song you found, an essay about Joy Division, anything. Keep it somewhat blog-friendly length, and have fun with it. I’ll choose what I consider my 10 favorite, and post them for all to see.

Please put GUEST POST as the subject of the e-mail. If you got a site or blog, be sure to include it so I can link to it. If you want, leave me with your favorite song/album of the year so far.

After nearly 4 years of just my voice, it will certainly be cool to get a few fresh minds spreading the love. And who knows, if I ever do expand, this would be a good way to be considered.

Looking forward to seeing what you got!

Arctic Monkeys Announce New Song: Electricity

By Will, March 13th 2012 — with 1 comment

Arctic Monkeys are the gift that keep on giving. New song “R U Mine?” graced the internet not too long ago, but the band is still rolling strong. They have announced that later this month they will release a new song titled “Electricity”.

It’s actually the b-side to “R U Mine?” which will be released as a limited edition purple vinyl as a part of Record Store Day on April 21.

The band is currently touring with The Black Keys, and will begin writing the new album during it. That’s exactly what you wanted to hear.

Stream Ramesh’s Debut Solo EP

By Will, March 7th 2012

You know Ramesh Srivastava as the lead singer of Voxtrot. Well unfortunately they are no more. But we can all agree that a solo EP from Ramesh is most certainly long overdue, and now we can rest easier, as it’s finally here.

He’s going by just Ramesh as his artist name, as well as the self titled name of his EP. It’s 5 songs that are very similar to the type of sincere indie pop that he delivered earnestly with Voxtrot. Who are we kidding, that’s exactly what we were looking for. At least for now.

The EP is available to stream for free at Ramesh’s facebook page. It’s available to buy digitally over at Other Music.

Best Coast have announced a new album titled The Only Place. It’s the follow up to their 2010 debut, Crazy For You. It will be released via Mexican Summer on May 15.

As reported Jon Brion produced the album, which is bound to sound a lot more cleaner and polished than the older lo-fi material that the band was once known for.

It’s reported that this album will see Bethany’s attempt to “grow up”. She has announced two sets of tour dates, which you can find over at Spin. She will be stopping by Terminal 5 on July 17, with support from Those Darlins.
