RIOT "Loanshark" Mark Reale, Rhett Forrester, Sandy Slavin and Don Van Stavern 1986 Rare recording
Rare recording and footage of the mach 2 1/2 line up of RIOT in Hollywood, Cali 1986! RIOT went on a brief hiatus during the "Born in America" Tour and soon returned with Mark Reale, Rhett Forrester, Sandy Slavin and new bassist Don Van Stavern, Reale's songwriting partner and bandmate from Mark's solo band Narita to round out the return. After Rhett and Sandy's departure, Mark and Don would move back East to form what would become the legendary "Thundersteel" Line up. After the unfortunate passing of Mark Reale in 2012, Van Stavern is currently the only remaining member of RIOT from this era.

The hard rock/metal USA band Riot hails from New York and have been making records for over 40 years.
Mark Reale was an amazing guitar player and songwriter for the band until 2013 when he sadly passed away from Crohn's disease. In this video we'll take a look at 5 killer riffs from the period between 1979 and 1988.
The bands 2nd album, 1979's 'Narita', was a forward thinking hard rock record with an in your face guitar tone and excellent songs. We'll look a 2 riffs from that album "49er" and "Road Racin'.'"
Riot's 3rd record was their masterpiece, with powerful songs and excellent guitar playing from Mark Reale and Rick Ventura. Vocalist Guy Speranza was on "fire" during this period and the band should have gone on to greater heights based on this album alone, but alas, Speranza would end up leaving the band after this record, leaving the band's future in doubt. We'll look at 2 riffs from this album: "Fire Down Under" and the classic "Swords & Tequila."
After a couple of albums with Rhett Forrester on vocals the band changed directions again with vocalist Tony Moore, this time going for a proto type power metal sound with faster tempos and heavier tunes. We'll take a look at the barnburner title track riff "Thundersteel" here.
The continued on with different formations including a fairly long stretch with vocalist Mike DiMeo before Mark's passing. Afterwards the band reformed as Riot V and continues to tour and make great albums in honor of Mark Reale.
My top Riot picks:
1) Fire Down Under from 1981
2) Thundersteel from 1988
3) Inishmore from 1998
4) Narita from 1979
5) Unleash the Fire (Riot V) from 2014
And bonus tip Mark Reale's side project with vocalist Tony Harnell from TNT...the band was named Westwold...check out the self titled album from1999.
Go listen to some Riot!
