Cyborg Life: Kevin Warwick
Cyborg Life: Kevin Warwick
In 1998, when Kevin Warwick, researcher and Professor of Cybernetics at the University of Reading, England, implanted a silicon chip transponder into his left arm and connected it to his nervous system, he became the world's first cyborg: a man-machine hybrid. Some call Kevin Warwick a pioneer in the field of neuro-surgical implantation, others think he is a dangerous scientist who has gone crazy and wants to change mankind's evolution by creating a superior race: the cyborgs. In this video interview we talk about ultra-sonic senses, brain-to-brain telepathic communication, the therapeutic benefits of his experiments and why he think's he won't be the only cyborg on this planet in the future. TEDxWarwick - Kevin Warwick - Implants & Technology -- The Future of Healthcare?
Kevin Warwick is Professor of Cybernetics at the University of Reading, where he carries out research in artificial intelligence, control, robotics and cyborgs. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET. Kevin was born in Coventry, UK and left school to join British Telecom, at the age of 16. He took his first degree at Aston University, followed by a PhD and research post at Imperial College, London. He subsequently held positions at Oxford, Newcastle and Warwick Universities before being offered the Chair at Reading. As well as publishing over 500 research papers, Kevin's experiments into implant technology led to him being featured as the cover story on the US magazine, Wired. Kevin has been awarded higher doctorates (DSc) both by Imperial College and the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, and has received Honorary Doctorates from Aston University, Coventry University, Bradford University and Robert Gordon University. He was presented with The Future of Health Technology Award in MIT, was made an Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, and has received The IEE Senior Achievement Medal, the Mountbatten Medal and the Ellison-Cliffe Medal. In 2000 Kevin presented the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, entitled "The Rise of the Robots". Kevin's research involves the invention of an intelligent deep brain stimulator to counteract the effects of Parkinson Disease tremors. The tremors are predicted and a current signal is applied to stop the ...

Kevin Warwick on Singularity 1 on 1
www.SingularityWeblog.com http This is my second interview with Prof. Kevin Warwick. Last time I had him on Singularity 1 on 1 -- You Have to Take Risks to be Part of the Future, he shared his views on a wide variety of topics such as human and artificial intelligence, robotics, the technological singularity, God, the beginning of the universe and so on. This time around Kevin discusses issues such as: the difference between genius and madness; the magnetic implants and sensory-substitution-devices developed by his students (see picture gallery below); the recent problems surrounding his rat-brain-cell-robot project; the historical contribution, under-appreciated genius and tragic life of Alan Turing; the Turing Test; Watson -- IBM's amazing Jeopardy champion; and, finally, be/coming cy/borg. As always, you can listen to or download the audio above or watch the full video of the interview below. Most importantly -- don't hesitate to let me know what you think...

www.tedxoxford.co.uk In this talk Kevin Warwick, professor of Cybernetics at Reading University presents his talk on Cyborgs at TEDxOxford on 26th September 2011. He presents ideas on bringing back sight to the blind, allowing humans to see with sonar, and communicating with thought alone by combining artificial components with humans. TEDxOxford is a conference run entirely by students of Oxford University for young people. To find out more about TEDxOxford see www.tedxoxford.co.uk About TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Frontman Kevin Warwick Promotes The Dehumanization Of Humanity
Frontman Kevin Warwick Promotes The Dehumanization Of Humanity
The transhumanist agenda is out in the open today. Kevin Warwick has spent the last few years promoting himself, and his "pioneering" work ie pretending that his own microchip implant was the first one of its kind. In reality, this was all done decades ago. Now he is trying to persuade the public that we want a brain chip. There have been international science meetings on the brainchip since 2001 - the first one was held at Loyola University, Louisiana. Scientists at these meetings explained that the brainchips are ready now, and all that is necessary is to condition the public to accept them. They said that this would be done (not could be) by promoting them in movies, TV programmes, novels, cartoons for children, etc. This propaganda started years ago, and it will snowball in the near future. Kevin Warwick is obviously part of this conditioning process, telling us that our brains are not good enough, and that because of obesity, our bodies are pretty worthless too. Warwick hints at the end result of the brainchips, but he never openly explains what scientists at the Loyola Unversity meeting have admitted ie once there are enough people chipped, they will hear the buzzing of thoughts going back and forth between people's chips and the regional supercomputers (which are already set up) and this will be indistinguishable from their own thoughts. They admitted that it will be impossible to perceive of oneself as a separate distinct individual - just like the Borg, or the ...

His famous test was first introduced in his paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence" (1950) which opens with the words: "I propose to consider the question, 'Can machines think?' ". The Turing test has proven to be highly influential, becoming an essential concept in the philosophy of AI, but it has also been strongly criticized. What do you think of the Turing test? Should it be still considered as a useful tool of understanding human / machine interactions?

This is a short clip of Esoteria, the TV show we did on Edge Media TV (Sky 200). It attracted a good audience of both hardcore conspiracy theorists and casual viewers who'd heard me through the radio show I do on Kerrang Radio. One of those viewers was Charlie Brooker who reviewed it in The Guardian in his typical style. I'm not intending to upload full versions of the shows we've done as, due to popular demand, there are plans to put it out as a full quality DVD in the future.
