I am a big fan of the Hunger Games books and am excited for the film from Lionsgate. This was done in hopes that the actors would get a chance to audition for the film. Danielle Chuchran was able to audition for Gary Ross. Congratulations to Jennifer Lawrence and Amandla Stenberg on landing the roles. I know that Rue is described as being dark skinned in the book, but I wanted to show Savanna's acting. I think she would make a good Prim though. The song at the beginning is Wretches and Kings by Linkin Park. The song at the end is Iridescent by Linkin Park. I didn't put the sound of the cannon when Rue died because I cut out all background sounds and sound effects at that point and was just playing music only. You can check out some behind the scenes on the YouTube channel Mockingjaynet.

Lyrics: Deep in the meadow, under the willow A bed of grass, a soft green pillow Lay down your head, and close your eyes And when they open, the sun will rise Here it's safe, and here it's warm Here the daisies guard you from every harm Here your dreams are sweet-- --and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you. Deep in the meadow, hidden far away A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray Forget your woes and let your troubles lay And when again it's morning, they'll wash away Here it's safe, and here it's warm Here the daisies guard you from every harm Here your dreams are sweet-- -- and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you. Download link: www.mediafire.com My Twitter: twitter.com I'd love to hear from you! EDIT: Wow...I am so overwhelmed with all of this feedback. It's really amazing. I did not expect to get this many views, likes, comments...All of it is just wonderful. Thank you all so much. You make me want to keep singing and improving. :') ;/////; I cried while singing this. It's absolutely beautiful. I won't put any spoilers here for people who haven't read the books. But this song has a lot of meaning to me, and I feel like I can really connect with it. I just put a slight echo on my voice, that's it. And yeah, that's me in the picture. I know I don't look like Rue or Katniss. And that's fine with me :3 I would REALLY love your input, so please comment!! Here are lyrics: Lyrics: Deep in the meadow, under the willow A bed of grass, a soft green pillow Lay down your head, and close your eyes And when they open, the sun will rise Here it's safe, and here it's warm Here the daisies guard you from every harm Here your dreams are sweet-- --and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you. {{taxobox |name = Rue |image = Ruta chalepensis11.jpg |image_caption = Fringed Rue |regnum = Plantae |unranked_divisio = Angiosperms |unranked_classis = Eudicots |unranked_ordo = Rosids |ordo = Sapindales |familia = Rutaceae |subfamilia = Rutoideae |tribus = Ruteae |genus = ''Ruta'' |subdivision_ranks = Species |subdivision = Between 8–40 species, including: ''Ruta angustifolia''—Egyptian Rue ''Ruta chalepensis''—Fringed Rue ''Ruta corsica''—Corsican Rue ''Ruta graveolens''—Common Rue ''Ruta montana''—Mountain Rue |}}

Rue (''Ruta'') is a genus of strongly scented evergreen subshrubs 20–60 cm tall, in the family Rutaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, Macaronesia and southwest Asia. There are perhaps 8 to 40 species in the genus. A well-known species is the Common Rue.

The leaves are bipinnate or tripinnate, with a feathery appearance, and green to strongly glaucous blue-green in colour. The flowers are yellow, with 4–5 petals, about 1 cm diameter, and borne in cymes. The fruit is a 4–5 lobed capsule, containing numerous seeds.

It is very bitter. It was used extensively in Middle Eastern cuisine in olden days, as well as in many ancient Roman recipes (according to Apicius), and it is still used in northern Africa. In Italy rue leaves are sometimes added to grappa to obtain ''grappa alla ruta''.

Medicinal uses

According to ''The Oxford Book of Health Foods'', extracts from rue have been used to treat eyestrain, sore eyes, and as an insect repellent. Rue has been used internally as an antispasmodic, as a treatment for menstrual problems, as an abortifacient, and as a sedative.

Precautions

Caution should be taken with using rue topically. Applied to the skin with sun exposure, the oil and leaves can cause blistering. Some people are much more sensitive than others.

Literary references

Rue is mentioned in the Bible, Luke 11.42: "But woe unto you, Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs".

Rue is well known for its symbolic meaning of regret and it is sometimes been called "herb-of-grace" in literary works. It is one of the flowers distributed by the mad Ophelia in William Shakespeare's ''Hamlet'' (IV.5):

:"There's fennel for you, and columbines: :there's rue for you; and here's some for me: :we may call it herb-grace o' Sundays: :O you must wear your rue with a difference..."

It was also planted by the gardener in Shakespeare's ''Richard II'' to mark the spot where the Queen wept upon hearing news of Richard's capture (III.4.104–105):

:"Here did she fall a tear, here in this place :I'll set a bank of rue, sour herb of grace."

Rue is considered a national herb of Lithuania and it is the most frequently referred herb in Lithuanian folk songs, as an attribute of young girls, associated with virginity and maidenhood.

In mythology, the basilisk, whose breath could cause plants to wilt and stones to crack, had no effect on rue. Weasels who were bitten by the basilisk would retreat and eat rue in order to recover and return to fight.

In the novel ''The Hunger Games'', the female tribute from District 11 is named Rue.

The Tacuinum Sanitatis, a medieval handbook on wellness, lists these properties of rue:

  • ''Nature:'' Warm and dry in the third degree.
  • ''Optimum:'' That which is grown near a fig tree.
  • ''Usefulness:'' It sharpens the eyesight and dissipates flatulence.
  • ''Dangers:'' It augments the sperm and dampens the desire for coitus.
  • ''Neutralization of the Dangers:'' With foods that multiply the sperm.
  • In ''Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'', Ron has to take essence of rue for a couple of weeks while recovering from the poisoned oak-matured mead he drank in Professor Slughorn's office.

    Songs associated with rue

"Chervona Ruta" (Червона Рута—"Red Rue")—a song, written by Volodymyr Ivasyuk, a popular Ukrainian poet and composer. Pop singer Sofia Rotaru performed the song in 1971. Recently Rotaru performed in a rap arrangement.

The progressive metal band Symphony X named a song "Absinthe and Rue" on their first album, ''Symphony X'', and Kathleen Battle, American soprano, has recorded the song cycle "Honey and Rue" written by composer Andre Previn in collaboration with the Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison.

Many traditional English folk songs use rue to symbolise regret. Often it is paired with thyme: thyme used to symbolise virginity, and rue the regret supposed to follow its loss.

"''Una Matica de Ruda''" is a traditional Sephardic wedding song, dating back to the Middle Ages.

Suzanne Collins is an American television writer and author.

    Career

Collins's career began in 1991 as a writer for children's television shows. She worked on several television shows for Nickelodeon, including ''Clarissa Explains It All'', ''The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo'', ''Little Bear'', and ''Oswald''. She was also the head writer for Scholastic Entertainment's ''Clifford's Puppy Days''. She received a Writers Guild of America nomination in animation for co-writing the critically acclaimed Christmas special, ''Santa, Baby!''

After meeting children's author James Proimos while working on the Kids' WB show ''Generation O!'', Collins was inspired to write children's books herself. Her inspiration for ''Gregor the Overlander'', the first book of ''The New York Times'' best selling series ''The Underland Chronicles'', came from ''Alice in Wonderland'', when she was thinking about how one was more likely to fall down a manhole than a rabbit hole, and would find something other than a tea party. Between 2003 and 2007 she wrote the five books of the ''Underland Chronicles'': ''Gregor the Overlander'', ''Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane'', ''Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods'', ''Gregor and the Marks of Secret'', and ''Gregor and the Code of Claw''. During that time, Collins also wrote a rhyming picture book illustrated by Mike Lester entitled ''When Charlie McButton Lost Power'' (2005).

In September 2008 Scholastic Press released the ''The Hunger Games'', the first book of a new trilogy by Collins. ''The Hunger Games'' was partly inspired by the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Another inspiration was her father's career in the Air Force, which allowed her to better understand poverty, starvation, and the effects of war. This was followed by the novel's sequel, ''Catching Fire'', in September 2009. The third book of the trilogy, ''Mockingjay'', came out on August 24, 2010. In just 14 months, 1.5 million copies of the first two ''Hunger Games'' books were printed in North America alone. ''The Hunger Games'' has been on the ''New York Times'' Best Seller list for more than 60 weeks in a row. Collins was named one of ''Time'' magazine's most influential people of 2010.

    Personal life

Suzanne Collins was the daughter of an Air Force officer. Collins now lives in Connecticut with her husband, their two children, and two adopted feral kittens. She earned her M.F.A. from New York University in Dramatic Writing.

La Fonky Family (often shortened to La Fonky, or La FF) are a French hip hop group from Marseille. They are composed of four rappers, Le Rat Luciano, Menzo, Don Choa and Sat, the producer Pone, DJ Djel, the dancer Blaze, the singer Karima, Flex (fetus) Nandell, and manager Fafa.

Fonky Family made their first appearance on the French hip hop scene in 1994, after IAM had paved the way for new hip hop artists originating from Marseille. In 1995, they appeared in the song titled ''Les Bad Boys de Marseille'' on ''Métèque et mat'', the first solo album by IAM's Akhenaton. Their first album, ''Si Dieu veut'', came out in 1997 and soon received a gold album. After the release of the album, Karima left the group.

In 1998, the group were invited to collaborate with Akhenaton on the soundtrack of Luc Besson's film ''Taxi''. The film became a huge success and its soundtrack topped the French charts. After numerous collaborations with different members of IAM on their solo albums, the group released an extended play (EP) record with six live and edited titles, titled ''Hors série volume 1'', in spring 1999. ''Hors série volume 2'' was released in 2000.

Their second album, ''Art de rue'', came out in 2001. After that, many members of the group chose to pursue solo careers: Le Rat Luciano had already released a solo album in 2000, and Sat and Don Choa followed in 2001 and 2002 respectively. DJ Djel produced two compilations in 2001 and 2003.

In January 2006, Fonky Family released their third album ''Marginale Musique'' (Jive/Sony BMG), which debuted on the French charts straight at number one.

Fonky Family have a global music publishing deal with BMG Music Publishing.

Fonky Family's track "La Furie et la Foi" was used as the soundtrack for French skateboarder JB Gillet's part in the film "Rodney Vs Daewon Round II".

Yann Tiersen (born 23 June 1970) is a musician from France. His musical career is split between studio albums, collaborations and film soundtracks with a distinctive sound that is ever evolving. It can be recognized by its use of a large variety of instruments; primarily the guitar, synthesizer or violin together with instruments like the melodica, xylophone, toy piano, harpsichord, accordion and typewriter. Tiersen is often mistaken as a composer of soundtracks, himself saying "I'm not a composer and I really don't have a classical background," but his real focus is on touring and studio albums which just happen to often be suitable for film; his most famous soundtrack for the film Amélie was primarily made up of tracks taken from his first studio albums.

    Biography

Tiersen was born in Brittany, France, in 1970 and received classical training at several musical academies, including those in Rennes, Nantes, and Boulogne. In the early 1980s as a teenager he was influenced by the post-punk culture of bands like The Stooges and Joy Division. He has Belgian and Norwegian origins.

Before releasing scores under his own name, Tiersen recorded background music for a number of plays and short films, such as ''La Vie Rêvée des Anges'' (1998, Erick Zonca), ''Alice et Martin'' (1998, André Téchiné), ''Qui Plume la Lune?'' (Christine Carrière, 1999).

He rose to domestic fame upon the release of his third album, ''Le Phare'', but remained relatively unknown outside France until the release of his score for the film ''Amélie'' in 2001, which was a mixture of both new and previously released material.

Tiersen favors the piano, accordion, and violin, but is also known for his experimentation and use of obscure and found instruments like the ondes martenot and the typewriter.

Yann Tiersen's list of collaborators continues to grow album after album (see discography below for details). While composing his fifth album, ''L'absente'', Tiersen lent his musical talent to Françoiz Breut and Les Têtes Raides for their own albums. His 2005 album, ''Les Retrouvailles'', featured vocals from Stuart Staples of Tindersticks, Jane Birkin, and Elizabeth Fraser, formerly of Cocteau Twins. Tiersen also played piano on Staples' solo album, ''Lucky Dog Recordings 03-04''. In 2004 he also released a collaborative CD with American singer-songwriter Shannon Wright.

His live performances vary greatly. Sometimes he is accompanied by an orchestra and many guest collaborators, like Dominique A. Other times, he offers the more frequent minimalistic sessions, usually accompanied only by a drummer/bassist and a guitarist, with Tiersen switching seamlessly between piano, accordion, and violin for his lighter songs, and electric guitar for his louder pieces (where his Avant-Garde Music meet some rock sonorities). Lately, however, he has almost banished piano, accordion and violin and focused more on his electric guitar instead, as visible in his 2009-2010 Live Tours.

Yann Tiersen was married to Belgian actress Natacha Régnier, but they have since been divorced. They have a daughter, Lise born in 2002.

    ''Dust Lane'' 2010

October 2010 saw the release of Tiersen’s sixth studio album titled ''Dust Lane''. The album was two years in the making and was largely recorded in Ushant, France. Further parts were recorded in the Philippines. The album is preoccupied with mortality; during the recording sessions Tiersen lost his mother and a close friend. The recordings started out as simple song based tracks with Tiersen playing acoustic guitar, mandolin and bouzouki. New layers were added to the recordings creating a more complex sound. Then an array of vintage synthesisers and electric guitars were added to create further textures. The album was released by Mute Records in Europe and Anti- Records in the US. The record was promoted in a tour beginning in October 2010, starting in New York. Tiersen has been chosen by Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival that he will curate in December 2011 in Minehead, England.

Rue McClanahan (February 21, 1934 – June 3, 2010) was an American actress, best known for her roles on television as Vivian Harmon on ''Maude'', Fran Crowley on ''Mama's Family'', and Blanche Devereaux on ''The Golden Girls'', for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1987.

    Early life

McClanahan was born Edwina Rheua McClanahan in Healdton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Methodist parents Dreda Rheua-Nell (née Medaris), a beautician, and William Edwin McClanahan, a building contractor.

She was of Irish and Choctaw, Native American ancestry, and grew up in Ardmore, Oklahoma; she graduated from Ardmore High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Tulsa; she majored in German and Theater, and was a member of the woman's fraternity Kappa Alpha Theta. She was also a National Honor Society Member.

    Early career

McClanahan made her professional stage début at Pennsylvania's Erie Playhouse in 1957, in the play ''Inherit the Wind''. She began acting on off-Broadway in New York City in 1957, but did not make her Broadway début until 1969, when she portrayed Sally Weber in the original production of John Sebastian and Murray Schisgal's musical, ''Jimmy Shine'', with Dustin Hoffman in the title role.

Her role as Caroline Johnson on ''Another World'' (from July 1970 to September 1971) brought her notoriety. On the show, while taking care of twins Michael and Marianne Randolph, Caroline fell in love with their father, John, and began poisoning their mother, Pat. The short-term role was extended to more than a year before Caroline was finally brought to justice after kidnapping the twins. Once her role on ''Another World'' ended, McClanahan joined the cast of the CBS soap ''Where the Heart Is'', in which she played Margaret Jardin.

    Primetime success

    ''Maude''

In ''Maude'', broadcast from 1972 to 1978, McClanahan played Maude's (Bea Arthur) best friend, Vivian Harmon, wife of Arthur Harmon.

    ''The Golden Girls''

In ''The Golden Girls'' (original run 1985-1992) and the short-lived successor ''The Golden Palace'', McClanahan portrayed man-crazed southern belle Blanche Devereaux, owner of a house in which she lived and rented out to her three roommates and best friends: Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), Rose Nylund (Betty White) and Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty). McClanahan received an Emmy Award in 1987 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the show.

    Other work

She also appeared as a leader of Al-Anon in a 1970s informational video called "Slight Drinking Problem," in which Patty Duke played the enabling and eventually self-empowered wife of an alcoholic. In feature films McClanahan starred in 1961's ''The Rotten Apple'', as well as ''Walk the Angry Beach'' in 1968. In 1971 she played a vicious fag hag in the film ''Some of My Best Friends Are...'', which was set in a gay bar. In 1990, McClanahan starred as Matilda Joslyn Gage, mother-in-law of L. Frank Baum in the made-for-TV movie ''The Dreamer of Oz''.

McClanahan guest-starred on ''Newhart'', and played Aunt Fran Crowley on the first two seasons of ''Mama's Family''. She also voice-acted in cartoons, voicing Scarlett in the 1997 Fox Christmas special Annabelle's Wish. She was Grandma on the ''Blue's Clues'' video ''Blue's Big Treasure Hunt ''(1999). In the 1994 ''Spider-Man: The Animated Series'' episode "Doctor Octopus: Armed And Dangerous", she was Anastasia Hardy. The 2007 ''King of the Hill'' episode "Hair Today, Gone Today" cast her as Bunny. In 2009, she appeared in an episode of Law & Order as a woman who had an affair with John F. Kennedy.

    Later life

An animal welfare advocate and vegetarian, McClanahan was one of the first celebrity supporters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). McClanahan also supported Alley Cat Allies, a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to transforming communities to protect and improve the lives of cats, and appeared in a public service announcement for the organization in early 2010.

A Democrat, in December 2003 she wrote a letter informing Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry that his pheasant hunting had cost him her vote and respect. In a July 2008 interview, she weighed in on the 2008 Presidential campaigns. Regarding Barack Obama, she said:

In 2003 she appeared in the musical romantic comedy film ''The Fighting Temptations'' as Nancy Stringer, which costarred Cuba Gooding, Jr., Beyonce Knowles, Mike Epps and Steve Harvey. She replaced Carole Shelley as Madame Morrible in the musical ''Wicked'' on May 31, 2005. She played the role for eight months and departed the cast Jan. 8, 2006. She was replaced by Carol Kane on Jan. 10, 2006.

Her autobiography, ''My First Five Husbands ... and the Ones Who Got Away'', was released in 2007.

In June 2008, ''The Golden Girls'' was awarded the 'Pop Culture' award at the Sixth Annual TV Land Awards. McClanahan accepted the award with costars Bea Arthur and Betty White.

McClanahan's final acting role was in the cable series ''Sordid Lives'' on the Logo network, which premiered July 23, 2008, playing Peggy Ingram, the older sister of Sissy Hickey and mother of Latrelle, LaVonda and Earl "Brother Boy".

McClanahan was devoutly Methodist; when asked if religious in a December 2009 private interview she was stated as saying:

    Health and death

In June 1997, McClanahan was diagnosed with breast cancer, for which she was treated successfully.

On November 14, 2009, she was to be honored for her lifetime achievements at an event "Golden: A Gala Tribute To Rue McClanahan" at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, California. The event was postponed due to McClanahan's hospitalization. She had triple bypass surgery on November 4. It was announced on January 14, 2010, by ''Entertainment Tonight'' that, while recovering from surgery, she had suffered a minor stroke. In March 2010, fellow Golden Girls cast member Betty White reported on ''The Ellen DeGeneres Show'' that McClanahan was doing well and that her speech had returned to normal.

McClanahan died on June 3, 2010, at the age of 76, at New York–Presbyterian Hospital after she suffered another stroke.

She was cremated after her death.

McClanahan's longtime friend Betty White, who co-starred with her on both ''Mama's Family'' and ''The Golden Girls'', told ''Entertainment Tonight'' that McClanahan was a "close and dear friend" and that her death "hurts more than I ever thought it would".

McClanahan was survived by her sixth husband, Morrow Wilson (from whom she separated in 2009), her son from her first marriage, Mark Bish of Austin, Texas, her sister, Melinda L. McClanahan, of Silver City, New Mexico and a nephew, Brendan Kinkade. There were no funeral services for McClanahan so her family created an official memorial page on Facebook to honor her, and memorial services were held during the summer of 2010 in New York and Los Angeles. On June 10, 2010 McClanahan's New York apartment, with several unique design details, went on the market for $2.25 million.

In honor of her memory, WE tv-which airs reruns of ''The Golden Girls''; had a weeklong memoriam for McClanahan airing episodes featuring the best of Blanche from June 7 - 11, 2010.

On January 7, 2011 publicist and gay-rights advocate Jon-Marc McDonald posted on his blog that he would lead the publicity and marketing efforts on behalf of friend Michael J. La Rue and the estate of Rue McClanahan for ten auctions to be held throughout the United States to sell McClanahan’s belongings as, according to McDonald, was McClanahan’s wish. In addition McDonald will assist La Rue, McClanahan’s close friend and, prior to her death, producer of her autobiographical Broadway bound show, My First Five Husbands, with the publicity for a documentary about the actress, release date unknown.
