Download on iTunes: bit.ly With the '09 and '10installments having focused on new dance republics in North America, 2011 sees Markus Schulz's city-hopping compilation series make its return to mainland Europe. Last visiting in 2008 with 'Amsterdam', this new outing sends the series in the opposite direction and homes in on one of Eastern Europe's most awe-inspiring capitals... Just over a month ago, during the final stages of his set at Transmission - Future Cities, Markus Schulz held a poster up to the audience. Caught by the cameras feeding the O2 arena's video screens the image went stage to ceiling. That poster bore the front cover of 'Prague'11' and in holding it aloft Schulz had announced that the Czech capital would be the destination for his 2011 city compilation. Having played there twice a year, every year for the last five, it's certainly a place he's developed a strong association with. His regular visits over the period have positioned him well to see the explosion in the popularity of trance and progressive -- a rise Markus gauges visit-on-visit has being "close to exponential"... He continues: "seeing music scenes expand, no matter what style they are, isn't something a DJ ever tires of. Going to and from Prague in particular, but also to other Eastern European countries -- Poland, The Ukraine for example - over the course of five years, and witnessing what's happened with the music there, has made for an incredible collective experience for me. Sandstone (1988) | Screendance work Dancer and Choreographer Jeannette Ginslov Costume, set and body paint Jeannette Ginslov Video Director and editor Byron Griffin Music Laurie Anderson Toubab K Yello This was Ginslov's first choreographic solo work after returning from a two year stay in Europe where she studied at the CNDC, Angers France and lived in Arhus, Denmark, 1985-1987. The work was commissioned by painter Amalie Van Maltitz, to accompany the launch of her exhibition "The Human Figure in Art", at the Genkor Art Gallery, Rand Afrikaans University, Johanneburg, South Africa. This work was banned after its first performance by the Rector of The Rand Afrikaans University where it premiered. It was considered to be in "Bad taste!" Ginslov had danced topless to a speech of the then Nationalist Government Prime Minister PW Botha. News of the banning filtered into the media and Ginslov's name was launched. The work was performed the very next day at a local dance studio, in the home of Tossie Van Tonder. It later toured the whole of South Africa at underground venues and at university theatres in South Africa as well as the Baxter Theatre and Dance Umbrella in Durban. It was also performed in Sweden at the Sodra Teatern for the South Africa Theatre Festival,1993. This video edit by Jeannette Ginslov Walking Gusto Productions Copyright 2010

Operation Sandstone US Army Engineers - Nuclear Test Film
Courtesy: US Department of Energy In 1948, the US nuclear stockpile consisted of approximately 50 atomic bombs. Since the industrial complex to produce more nuclear weapons was not fully complete and there were limited amounts of plutonium, researchers wanted to develop more efficient implosion bombs. Operation Sandstone was a series of atmospheric nuclear "proof tests" conducted in the Pacific Proving Grounds Marshall Islands area April and May 1948. The goal of this test series was to prove the workability of changes to implosion warhead design that used less plutonium. The first shot, X-ray, conducted on April 14, 1948, had a yield of 37 kilotons. The second shot, Yoke, detonated on April 30, had a yield of 49 kilotons, while the last shot, Zebra, occurred on May 14 with a yield of 18 kilotons. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org Operation Sandstone was the third American series of nuclear weapon tests. It was conducted in 1948 at Enewetak Atoll. These tests followed Crossroads and preceded Ranger. As was the custom, each explosion was given a nickname. The tests were authorized on June 27, 1947 and Enewetak Atoll was chosen as the test site on October 11. The 140 inhabitants of the atoll were relocated to Ujelang Atoll in December. The tests were used to evaluate new atomic weapon designs that had been developed at Los Alamos as part of the Manhattan Project but had not previously been used. The bombs used oralloy, a form of enriched uranium, as a replacement for plutonium, which had been used in all atomic weapons prior to this with the exception of the "Little Boy" bomb dropped on Hiroshima, which utilized uranium-235. The X-Ray test used a 2:1 mix of oralloy and plutonium. The Yoke and Zebra tests used all oralloy. Nuclear weapon designs are physical, chemical, and engineering arrangements that cause the physics package of a nuclear weapon to detonate. There are three basic design types. In all three, the explosive energy of deployed devices has been derived primarily from nuclear fission, not fusion. Pure fission weapons were the first nuclear weapons built and have so far been the only type ever used in warfare. The active material is fissile uranium (U-235) or plutonium (Pu-239), explosively assembled into a chain-reacting critical mass by one of two ...
