Diikuula Love riddle in Iganga 244.wmv
Diikuula's love riddle shows that riddles are not always short fixed question-and-answer forms or word puzzles but freely formed imaginative processes of the everyday social discourse. This is consistent with many other riddles in Lusoga whose texture directly derives from contexts, audiences and events. The Love riddle is a well imagined natural and spontaneous discourse and extracting parts from its compounded performance breaks down the texture of the riddle and waters down the conversation. Every time Diikuula performs during an event like this, he creates a new text of the riddle even though he might use the same precedents in his performance which makes every performance an original. That is why the audience and context of performance are an important integral part necessary in documentation and interpretation of riddle. Disengaged riddles lose their intrinsic connotation, significance and relevance to the specific contexts and events of performance. That is why during the Diikuula's love riddle performance, Diikuula uses logogriphs to complete the ideas that he intends to communicate. In this way, his imagination meets that of his audience as full participants, contributors and co-creators of the riddle. Dikuula's love riddle was performed at Iganga Bus park terminal in Uganda in 2008. Much attention is focused on how the performers bring out the messages and how the intended meanings are relayed through a deliberately created yet spontaneous making process ...

sad dogs 1
A Ugandan adaptation of "The Government Inspector" a Russian play from the 1830s on the subject of corruption. Set and filmed in a Ugandan village, Sad Dogs is the brainchild of Mukisa Bernard, artistic director of the Budondo Intercultural Center and Atuwa troupe. The 10 minute video includes a conversation on corruption (in Lusoga, the local language), a specially devised theatre game called Topdog Underdog, and shots of village hunters singing to their dogs.
