Archaic Greek in a modern world
An endangered Greek dialect which is spoken in north-eastern Turkey has been identified by researchers as a "linguistic goldmine" because of its startling closeness to the ancient language, as Cambridge researcher Dr Ioanna Sitaridou explains.

Pontic Greek Dances - Xanthopoulos - Pontiaka
The is a from an old B&W; Greek film called "H ODYSSEIA ENOS XSERIZOMENOU", starring the actor/singer Nikos Xanthopoulos. The story line is that following the exchange of populations between Greece & Turkey in 1923, he goes back in an attempt to find his lost father. He travels to the Pontic Greek areas near the Black Sea, and in this scene we see three Pontic dances; Tik, Dipat (with which he sings the famous Pontic song "Tsambasin"), & the war dance called Serra.

Mass Grave of Pontian Greeks Discovered in Turkey (Greek)
Asia Minor, home of the Hellenes for 4000 years. Ionia and Pontus, once home to millions of Hellenes has been torn from the cradle of Hellenism by the butchers of the Balkans, the Turks. The ethnic cleansing of 1 million Pontian Hellenes in 1915 and 1.2 million Ionian Hellenes from Ionia in 1922 cannot be written off and left to dust in the pages of history. We have an obligation to those that lived there, and to those that died there, to tell their story and to correct the historical mistake that is Turkey.

About The Pontian Genocide (1916-1923) 1915 - 1922. Neoturks, under their German advisors decided a slow extermination of the annoying Greeks. It had to be quietly, not like the Armenians. So they gathered the men and forced them to march in the interior of Turkey, without food and clothes. Many of them died. The rest were concentrated in camps and were forced to work 18 hours the day (amele tampourou=work camps). This was a slow death. 335000 Pontians died this way and another 500000 Greeks of Minor Asia. Pontian cities like Trebizous, Sampsous, Kerasous, Sinopi, Amaseia, Argyroupolis, Rizoupolis, Amissos, Athena, Neokesarea had now only turkish populations. Many Pontians managed to escape and find refuge in Russia. They settled in central Russia, Crimea, in the region of Georgia, Armenia, where they founded new Greek cities, cultural centers. The rest survivors were transfered to Greece, after the signing of the treaty of Lozanne in 1923. So ended the History of Greek Pontians after 3000 years. This time of year is called «the Catastrophe of Asia Minor» in Greek history. "The anti-Greek and anti-Armenian persecutions are two phases of one programme - the extermination of the Christian element from ...

Period: 1914 -1922 --- el.wikipedia.org --- Διάλεξη του Νίκου Λυγερού με θέμα "Ο Πόντος ως Ανθεκτικότητα του Ελληνισμού", Σάββατο 24 Σεπτεμβρίου 2011 | Σύλλογος Ποντίων Ρόδου "Ο Διγενής" --- Greek Genocide is the term adapted by modern genocide scholars for the violent campaign instigated by the government of the Ottoman Empire against the Greek population of the Empire during World War I and its aftermath (1914--1923). The campaign, also known as the Pontian Genocide, included massacres, forced deportations involving death marches, and summary expulsions. According to various sources, several hundred thousand Ottoman Greeks died during this period. Some of the survivors and refugees, especially those in Eastern provinces, took refuge in the neighbouring Russian Empire. After the end of the 1919--22 Greco-Turkish War, most of the Greeks remaining in the Ottoman Empire were transferred to Greece under the terms of the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey. The government of Turkey, the successor state to the Ottoman Empire, maintains that the large-scale campaign was triggered by the perception that the Greek population was sympathetic to the enemies of the Ottoman state. The Allies of World War I took a different view, condemning the Ottoman government-sponsored massacres as crimes against ...

The Pontian Genocide: Mass grave discovered in Turkey
During World War I and its aftermath (1914-1923), the Young Turk government of the Ottoman Empire instigated a violent campaign against the Greek population of Pontus and other regions of the Empire inhabited by Greeks. The campaign included massacres, forced deportations involving death marches, and summary expulsions. According to various sources, the death toll in Pontus ranged from 300000 to 360000; the death toll for Ottoman Greeks as a whole was higher. Some of the survivors and expelled took refuge in the neighbouring Russian Empire. Most of the Pontic Greeks who remained in Pontus after the end of the 1919-22 Greco-Turkish War were later deported to Greece under the terms of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923. The government of Turkey, the successor state to the Ottoman Empire,[2] maintains that the large-scale campaign was triggered by the perception that the Greek population was sympathetic to the enemies of the Ottoman state and a potential fifth column. The Allies of World War I took a different view, condemning the Ottoman government-sponsored massacres as crimes against humanity. More recently, the International Association of Genocide Scholars passed a resolution in 2007 affirming that the Ottoman campaign against Christian minorities of the Empire, including the Greeks, was genocide. Some other organisations have also passed resolutions recognising the campaign as a genocide, as have the parliaments of Greece and Cyprus.

History of Turkish Ottoman Genocide of Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greeks
The Turkish government thinks that by denying the genocide committed against their Christian minorities between 1914 and 1918, it can wipe its dark past. In doing so, they claim that the genocide that brutally killed 1500000 Armenians, 750000 Assyrians and 300000 Pontic Greeks is a "fabrication of history". The overwhelming evidence and eyewitness accounts of this tragedy is testimony that these horrible crimes were committed and continuing to deny the crime only makes today's Turkish government an accomplice to the crime.
