Manhattanhenge
From ScienceFriday.com: "Twice a year, the sunset lines up with New York City's street grid -- making for spectacular views. Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York, identified the cosmic event over a decade ago and coined it Manhattanhenge. Last weekend was the first Manhattanhenge of 2009 -- we watched the sun from 42nd street, along with about 50 other astronomical enthusiasts"

Manhattan Solstice
The Manhattan street grid is angled 30 degrees east from geographic north. On May 28 and July 12, this angle results in a sunset at the end of every cross-street. Everything in Midtown is coincidence.

Manhattanhenge
Manhattanhenge is a semiannual occurrence during which the setting sun aligns with the east--west streets of the main street grid in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The neologism is derived from Stonehenge, where the sun aligns with the stones on the solstices with a similarly dramatic effect. Manhattanhenge is sometimes referres to as the Manhattan Solstice. The dates of Manhattanhenge usually occur around May 28 and July 12 or July 13 -- spaced evenly around summer solstice.
