Ratify CEDAW - End Discrimination Against Women
Ratify CEDAW - End Discrimination Against Women
CEDAW - The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women is the international treaty dedicated to gender equality. The US played a major role in drafting the treaty and President Carter signed it in 1980, but we are one of only seven countries that has not ratified CEDAW. Let's make 2010 the year we ratify CEDAW. For the first time, there is a strategic, well-resourced coalition leading the effort, and we have strong support within the current administration and the US Senate. But getting 67 Senators to vote yes to ratification wont be easy and well need your help over the next 5-7 months. Young people from Milwaukee created this video to help spread the word. Please do your part to help. Upload a video response to support CEDAW. Maier draws on new sources to illustrate how the document we revere today as the foundation of our country's laws and the cornerstone of our legal system was not easily ratified but hotly contested in a year long debate which riveted the entire country.

Korea-EU FTA Ratified(한․EU FTA 비준동의안 통과) [In Focus]
Korea-EU FTA Ratified(한․EU FTA 비준동의안 통과) [In Focus]
[In Focus] # 678 Korea-EU FTA Ratified(한․EU FTA 비준동의안 통과) Newsreel The Korean National Assembly finally ratified the Korea-EU FTA on the 4th of May. The day's session was opened solely for the vote on the FTA alone and none of the other items pending in the legislative committee were discussed. Meanwhile, the Korea Rural Economic Institute estimates that agricultural production will decrease by 174 million dollars per year over the next 15 years, resulting in a total loss of 2.8 billion dollars. This and other issues in the Korea-EU FTA have caused problems in its ratification. However, the ruling party was able to win over the opposition under some preconditions. Specifically, the compensation guarantee for losses in agricultural product prices was expanded and the "no super-supermarket zone" was extended to a 1 kilometer radius from 500 meters, in order to protect traditional markets. Now that the Korea EU FTA is set to take effect, let's now crunch the numbers to really understand the losses and gains for the Korean economy. Discussion 1. The Korea EU FTA was finally ratified after a long struggle. How are the various parties involved responding to its ratification? 2. The Korea-EU FTA is being welcomed as an opportunity for Korea to grow in the EU market. How important is the region to Korea? 3. The Korea EU FTA is one of the two greatest FTAs we are working on, the other being the Korea-US FTA. In what way are the terms of the Korea-EU FTA different from the ...
