Ep.77 - NOBLES AND THE PEOPLE - BLULIGHT GALLERY
www.blulight.it - ART GALLERY - Nobility is a state-privileged status which is generally hereditary. The privileges associated with nobility may constitute substantial advantages over or relative to non-nobles, or may be largely honorary (eg precedence), but are maintained, or at least officially acknowledged, by law or government. Titles of nobility have often been associated with present or past monarchies, but nobility also existed in such republics as the Dutch Provinces, Genoa and Venice, and remains part of the legal social structure of, eg San Marino in Europe. Hereditary titles often distinguish nobles from non-nobles, although in many nations most of the nobility have been un-titled, and a hereditary title need not indicate nobility (eg baronet).

The Knight of Glin - The Last Interview
The Knight of Glin, also called the Black Knight, was a hereditary title in the Fitzgeralds of Limerick, Ireland since the early 14th century. The family was a branch of the FitzGerald dynasty or Geraldines, related to the Earls of Desmond (extinct), who were granted extensive lands in County Limerick by the Duke of Normandy by way of conquest. The title was named after the village of Glin, near the Knight's lands. Like the Knights of Kerry, the Knights of Glin descended from one of the younger or illegitimate sons of John FitzGerald, 1st Baron Desmond. The last knight, Desmond FitzGerald, died on September 14, 2011. Desmond John Villiers FitzGerald has been described as a charming, passionate and intelligent man who is survived by his wife Olda and their three daughters, Catherine, Nesta and Honor who were all at his bedside as he passed away at a Limerick Hospice after his two year battle with cancer. Having become the 29th knight of Glin aged just 12, he was educated in Trinity and then at Harvard University and was regarded as a learned man who was a leading light in Irish architecture and fine art. He worked as a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London before his return to the Castle in Glin, which was built in the 1790s. As president of the Irish Georgian Society, the Knight of Glin worked tirelessly for the upkeep and future of Irish Country Houses. He was also the author of a number of books and studies and oversaw the publication of The Knights of Glin ...

Familiar classics - Joaquín Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) - II. Adagio
History (based on materials from the Grove Dictionary of Music): Blind from the age of three, Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo (1901-1999) began his musical education at an early age, gradually progressing to studies at the Parisian Conservatoire and the Sorbonne. The early part of Rodrigo's life was spent almost exclusively in academician pursuits with only occasional compositions. However, when he returned to Spain in 1939 at the onset of the Second World War, he brought with him his first large-scale work which is presented in this case: the Concierto de Aranjuez, inspired by the gardens of the Palacio Real de Aranjuez. At that time Rodrigo was, it seems, a respected scholar but not an established maestro, a status which he attained with the triumphant premiere of the piece in question on the 9th of November, 1940, in Barcelona. Though the composer went on to compose 170 other works of more or less renown and attained numerous honors, including the de Falla Chair of Music at Complutense University (1947) and a membership at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes (1950), the Aranjuez would always remain the most recognizable achievement of Rodrigo's musical career, demonstrated by the conferment to Rodrigo's family of the hereditary title "Marqueses de los Jardines de Aranjuez" in 1992. Music: Rodrigo's music is a perfect representation of the neoclassical school which, in opposition to modernism, uses established traditional forms and a clear, harmonic language entrenched ...

The Mehtars of Chitral
The Katur Dynasty of Chitral is a branch of the Timurids, descending from Sultan Hussain Baiqara, Badshah of Khorassan. The Katur Dynasty is part of the Ayubid line, from Baba Ayub, the grandson of Sultan Hussain. The Katur Dynasty originally controlled Lower Chitral,Lot Kuh, Turkho, Mulkho, Nuristan and the Upper Kunar Valley of Afghanistan. Later Mastuj, Yarkhun, Laspur, Koh-e-Ghizer, Yasin and Ishkoman were addaed to the Katur Domains. At the time of Aman-ul-Mulk Punial, Darel, Tangir, Upper Swat, and Dir Kohistan also paid tribute to Chitral. Aman-ul-Mulk also briefly held Gilgit during a war with the Dogras of Kashmir. After the siege of Chitral, Chitral became a Princely State of the British Indian Empire, and Nuristan and the Kunar Valley were ceded to Afghanistan and the areas east of the Shandur Pass became part of the Gilgit Agency of Kashmir State. In 1911 Chitral became a Gun Salute State with an eleven gun salute and the hereditary title of His Highness was conferred upon the Mehtar by the Emperor of India (King of Great Britain). In 1947 Chitral acceded to Pakistan and was the first State in the Indian Empire to express the will to do so. The Mehtar sent the Chitral State Forces to Gilgit, Astore and Skardu in 1948 and they played a key role in the liberation of Gilgit-Baltistan. It was also the only gun salute state amongst the Frontier States. Chitral State was merged with NWFP in 1969.

Thurn & Taxis Board Game
www.bestdanggames.com In 1490, Kaiser Maximilian I awarded Franz von Taxis the contract to deliver mail between the Kaisers residences in Innsbruck and Brussels. He did such a good job, that postal services in the country continue to be connected with the name Thurn and Taxis. With the introduction of postal carriages in the middle of the 17th century, members of the family were raised to Count status and given the hereditary title of Postmaster General. Thurn And Taxis begins at this point in history. Can you emulate the achievements of this family and build a successful postal network? Do you have the talent to connect the right cities to create an effective network and not lose sight of the need to acquire new carriages when they are needed? Plan your moves carefully and watch your opponents moves carefully, so you are prepared to respond to them. Thurn & Taxis takes you back in time and gives you challenges that will bring you back to the game over and over.

2. Heaven is a Proper Reward for the Christian Life - The Weight of Glory
...We must not be troubled by unbelievers when they say that this promise of reward makes the Christian life a mercenary affair. There are different kinds of reward. There is the reward which has no natural connection with the things you do to earn it, and is quite foreign to the desires that ought to accompany those things. Money is not the natural reward of love; that is why we call a man mercenary if he marries a woman for the sake of her money. But marriage is the proper reward for a real lover, and he is not mercenary for desiring it. A general who fights well in order to get a peerage [hereditary title] is mercenary; a general who fights for victory is not, victory being the proper reward of battle as marriage is the proper reward of love. The proper rewards are not simply tacked on to the activity for which they are given, but are the activity itself in consummation. There is also a third case, which is more complicated. An enjoyment of Greek poetry is certainly a proper, and not a mercenary, reward for learning Greek; but only those who have reached the stage of enjoying Greek poetry can tell from their own experience that this is so. The schoolboy beginning Greek grammar cannot look forward to his adult enjoyment of Sophocles as a lover looks forward to marriage or a general to victory. He has to begin by working for marks, or to escape punishment, or to please his parents, or, at best, in the hope of a future good which he cannot at present imagine or desire ...

'Leadership for Dummies.' Lord Barker explains his new book.
Oscar Turner, author of 'Paint. The art of scam' (available on Amazon) wrote and produced this video where literary critic Justin Casey talks to Lord Barker about his critically slated new book 'Leadership for Dummies.' Generally dismissed as the mindless rantings of an inbred, pompous, drunk Lord Barker rather unsuccesfully explains his ill thought out logic about democratic leaders and has ridiculous ideas of what the alternative is. `Lord Barker once again, shows us how bizarre the British system of hereditary title is and it's false but effective influence on culture. But then again, as strange as this is, maybe abstraction is a healthy juxtaposition to the clinical life we have created. Like Prince Charles, Lord Barker is generally concidered a waste of space, but strangely, almost secretly, we are all glad he and those like him are there...in the name of perspective.

Trace Your Family Tree With a Genealogy Search
HERE! The Link AncestryAndFamilySearch.com Finding out one's ancestry may be very important at times. Correct genealogical information may be very crucial in solving title and property disputes. For example if there is a legal tassle for a hereditary title like that of a prince of some province then a proper genealogical search may settle the dispute by finding the rightful owner to the title. In the same way if the inheritance of an estate is challenged then again a genealogy search can determine the proper owner. It can also be of much spiritual value to many. Knowing one's ancestors can make one feel surer about their presence in the world. It is a psychological effect that cannot be ignored. The question of our origin is a pertinent one in our minds. Genealogy searches can also be important for research and statistical data collection. It may be needed to write the history of an important family or to research the life and roots of a prominent historical person. They can also be used to research local histories. It can also be fun and a good and healthy mental exercise. While making genealogical searches important discoveries about one's ancestry and ancestors may crop up. These can be pleasant surprises and make the search very enjoyable. Making an extensive genealogical search for one's ancestry is not a small feat and one can engage in it for many days as a great, educative hobby. Acme Joinery and Property Maintenance - Paisley Scotland
Acme Joinery and Property Maintenance are well established and respected construction company who are proud to have their roots in the historical Royal Burgh town of Paisley, in the Scottish Lowlands. Paisley is world famous for its distinctive Paisley Pattern. The town was firmly placed on the map of world history during the period of Britain's industrial revolution when the town's ever expanding 18th and 19th century textile industry took the world by storm. During this period the town attracted many wealthy local and international entrepreneurs who created a hub of world trade at the very heart of the Royal Burgh. With their wealth they built many grand family estates including a great number of exquisite textile mills and trade warehouses and much of this wonderful architecture remains to this day, standing proud around the banks of the White Cart River. However the town's beginnings stretch much much further back in time than the period of Britain's industrial revolution. Paisley has always been an extremely important strategic area in Scotland's history, having many of the great Scottish kings and queens, the Royal House of Stewart residing there at one time. The status of the town and its attachment the Royal House of Stewart begin with the granting of land in the area to Walter fitz Alan, the High Steward of Scotland by King David I of Scotland in the 12th century. The strategic location of this castle was to prevent the eastern expansion of the kingdom belonging ...
