Apoorva Lakhia is an Indian film director.

Before becoming a film director, Apoorva was an assistant director for Ashutosh Gowariker's period epic film ''Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India'' and as second assistant director for the film ''Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love'' (1996). He had also been an assistant for Hollywood films such as ''The Ice Storm'', ''A Perfect Murder'' and ''Addicted to Love''. He had his education at the legendary Lawrence School, Sanawar. As Amir khan was looking for someone with Hollywood experience for the movie Lagaan, Farhan Akhtar recommended him Apoorva who has worked with various cast and crew in Hollywood.

He made his debut as a film director with the 2002 film ''Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost''. His second film ''Ek Ajnabee'' released in 2005 which starred Amitabh Bachchan in the leading role was a remake of the Hollywood film ''Man on Fire''. His third film ''Shootout at Lokhandwala'' which has a multi-star cast released on 25 May 2007 and was based on real-life events involving the underworld gangsters Maya Dolas and Dilip Buwa. In late 2007 he directed a short story titled ''Sex on the Beach'' for the anthology film ''Dus Kahaniyaan''. His next film was Mission Istanbul starring Vivek Oberoi, Sunil Shetty, Shriya Saran and Zayed Khan. North American producer Vikas Kohli of Fatlabs studio collaborated with Mika Singh for the first time on the Mission Istaanbul soundtrack. He has written the story of Hide & Seek (2009), which is directed Shawn Aranha. Lakhia wrote and directed all the movies from his debut Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost to Mission Istanbul. His latest Guest appearance was in a Negative role in the movie Knock Out (film) starring Sanjay Dutt and Irfan Khan. Filmography

Taran Adarsh (born 1965) is an Indian film critic, journalist, editor and film trade analyst. He is also a former producer and screenwriter. He is the son of film director and producer, B.K. Adarsh.

Taran Adarsh started his journalism career at the age of 15 as the editor of ''Trade Guide'', a weekly box-office magazine. In 1994, Adarsh produced and wrote a Bollywood film-based serial ''Hello Bollywood'', starring Shehzad Khan and Kashmira Shah. He continued his work on ''Trade Guide'' alongside. He is currently an active film critic, journalist and trade analyst on ''Bollywood Hungama'', a leading Bollywood entertainment website.

In 2007, Adarsh was chosen as the host of a new talk show called ''B BIZ'', on which he provides box office collection reports, and interviews renowned celebrities and film-makers from the industry. Commissioned by Bollywood trade channel ETC, the show aired on 7 May 2007, and has simultaneously been featured on Zee TV and ''Bollywood Hungama'' as well.

His first major role was in the television show ''Just Mohabbat''. This was the first serial targeting the college-going audience. It revolved around the character Jai, played by Seth. It ran for four years on the Indian channel Sony.He did many modelling assignments apart from featuring in advertisements and music videos. He starred in a Pepsi commercial alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

Lara Dutta Bhupathi (; born 16 April 1978) is an Indian actress, UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, and former Miss Universe.

Biography

Early life

Lara was born in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh to a Punjabi father and an Anglo-Indian mother. Her father is Wing Commander L.K. Dutta (retired) and her mother is Jennifer Dutta. She also has two elder sisters, one of whom serves in the Indian Air Force and a well known younger sister. Famed composer and DJ Nitin Sawhney is Lara's cousin. The Dutta family moved to Bangalore in 1981 where she completed high school from St.Francis Xavier Girls' High School and the Frank Anthony Public School. Lara graduated in economics with a minor in communications from the University of Mumbai. She was crowned Miss Universe in 2000 which led to her appointment as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in 2001.

Modeling career

Lara Dutta won the annual Gladrags modeling competition in her native India, thus winning the right to be the first Indian representative at the 1997 Miss Intercontinental, in which she took first place. Later, she was crowned Femina Miss India Universe and Miss Universe in 2000.

At Miss Universe 2000 in Cyprus, Lara was the clear favorite ahead of fierce competition from Venezuela, Spain, USA and Canada. She achieved the highest score in the swimsuit competition and her finalist interview score was the highest individual score in any category in the history of the Miss Universe contest, as her perfect interview saw a majority of the judges giving her the maximum 9.99 mark. After her final question, in which she delivered a passionate defense of the Miss Universe contest (and other beauty pageants), she became the second Indian Miss Universe.

In the same year, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza won their respective Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific titles which gave India a rare triple victory in the world of beauty pageants.

Acting career

Lara primarily signed up to do the Tamil film, ''Arasatchi'' in 2002, but due to financial problems, it only released in mid-2004. She made her Hindi debut in 2003 with the film ''Andaaz'' which was a box office success and won her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. She then appeared in a number of films, some of which failed at the box office and some of which were moderately successful. Her box office "hits" include ''Masti'' (2004), ''No Entry'' (2005), ''Partner'' (2007) and ''Housefull'' (2010).

In 2006, she starred in the comedy, ''Bhagam Bhag'' which did well at the box office.

In 2005, Sania Mirza and Lara Dutta Bhupathi both participated in Kaun Banega Crorepati (season 2) on 13 November 2005. Dutta's first release of 2007 was Shaad Ali's ''Jhoom Barabar Jhoom''. The film was a box office failure in India but did better overseas, especially in the U.K. She received mixed reviews for her performance in the film. Her later release, ''Partner'' opened to a good response and became a hit.

Her 2009 release, ''Blue'' was one of the most expensive movies of Indian cinema. Lara had initially walked out of the project because the movie was entirely shot in the ocean and she did not know how to swim. However the male protagonist Akshay Kumar encouraged her in learning how to swim and she immediately started training with a special coach. ''Blue'' was released on 16 October 2009. She stated that "The moment I got to know of it, I called Akshay and told him that I wouldn't be able to accept the assignment. He knew the reason behind my decision. Not many people are aware that I had almost drowned while shooting for Andaaz, Akshay had rescued me. When I reminded him I couldn't swim, he told me to forget my phobia and learn swimming pronto," said Dutta. "Today, I feel Blue has not merely made me overcome my phobias, but has also taught me something that will stay with me for the rest of my life".

Her 2010 release ''Housefull'' was a hit across India. The movie starred Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Riteish Deshmukh. It was the 4th biggest hit in the country with Rs 955 Millions of gross revenue . She played the role of Hetal Petal, one of the main characters in the movie.

In 2011, her first movie as a producer, Chalo Dilli was released.

Personal life

Lara dated New York Yankees star Derek Jeter when she lived in New York City. There she was spotted at a baseball game in Yankees Stadium and a news items was carried on ESPN.

In September 2010, she got engaged to Indian tennis player, Mahesh Bhupathi. They got married on February 16, 2011 in a civil ceremony in Bandra, and later followed it by a Christian ceremony on 20 February 2011 at Sunset Point in Goa.

On 1 August 2011, Lara confirmed that she is pregnant with their first child.

Jaya Bachchan (Bengali: জয়া ভাদুড়ী বচ্চন, Hindi: जया बच्चन; born Jaya Bhaduri on 9 April 1948) is an Indian actress and politician. She is an alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Bachchan is married to Amitabh Bachchan, and her son Abhishek Bachchan is also an actor.

After appearing as a child actor in Satyajit Ray's ''Mahanagar'' (1963), she made her first screen role as an adult in ''Guddi'' (1971) directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, and performed in films including ''Jawani Diwani'' (1972), ''Koshish'', Anamika, ''Piya Ka Ghar'' and ''Bawarchi''. She appeared alongside her husband Amitabh Bachchan in films such as ''Zanjeer'' (1973), ''Abhimaan'' (1973), ''Chupke Chupke''(1975), ''Mili'' (1975) and ''Sholay'' (1975). She restricted her film work in the coming years and after ''Silsila'' in 1981, took a sabbatical for films, only to return with Govind Nihlani's ''Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa'' (1998).

During her career, she won three Filmfare Best Actress Awards, three Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards, which makes her the overall most-awarded performer in the female acting categories, along with Nutan. She was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

Early life

Jaya Bhaduri was born in a Hindu Bengali family to Indira and Taroon Kumar Bhaduri, writer, journalist and stage artist in Jabalpur. She studied in St. Joseph's Convent School, Bhopal. She was awarded the Best All-India N.C.C. Cadet Award, during the Republic Day celebrations in 1966. She later studied at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

Career

She started her career with a supporting role in Satyajit Ray's Bengali film, ''Mahanagar'' at the age of 15, with Anil Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee. Prior to this, she had appeared in two Bengali film, one a 13-minute short film, ''Suman'', and another a Bengali comedy ''Dhanni Meye'' (1971), as Uttam Kumar's sister-in law.

Inspired by her experience with Ray, she decided to join Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune to learn acting, and passed out with the gold medal, and she was also picked out to play the eponymous role of ''Guddi'' in the 1971 Hrishikesh Mukherjee film, ''Guddi'' in which she played a schoolgirl obsessed with film star Dharmendra. Guddi was a success, and she moved to Bombay and soon picked other roles, however her role of a 14 year-old school girl, aided by her petite looks, created the girl-next-door image for her, which stayed with her through the rest of her career. Though she tried to break out of the mould with glamourous roles as in ''Jawani Diwani'' (1972) and a negative character of the heroine faking amnesia, in ''Anamika'' (1973), it was the ''Guddi'' girl, epitomizing middle-class sensibility, that she remained in most of her roles as a heroine, which she played amiably in films of "middle-cinema" directors like Gulzar, Basu Chatterjee and indeed Hrishikesh Mukherjee, including, ''Uphaar'' (1971), ''Piya Ka Ghar'' (1972), ''Parichay'' (1972), ''Koshish'' (1972) and ''Bawarchi'' (1972), with marked sensitivity. By now, she was a popular star.

She first acted with her future husband Amitabh Bachchan in the film, ''Bansi Birju'' (1972), followed by B.R. Ishara's ''Ek Nazar'' also in the same year. Amitabh had undergone a string of flops, and when most lead heroines refused to work him, in Salim-Javed scripted, ''Zanjeer'' (1973), she stepped into the film. The film turned out to be blockbuster and gave rise to Amitabh Bachchan's angry-young-man image. This was closely followed by their pairing in films like ''Abhimaan'' (1973), ''Chupke Chupke'' (1975) and ''Sholay'' (1975).

Her daughter Shweta was born while Jaya and Amitabh were working on ''Sholay''. Following this she retired from films and focused on raising her children. Her last film as a lead actress was ''Silsila'' (1981), opposite her husband. During the late 1980s she wrote the story for the film ''Shahenshah'' which starred her husband in the lead.

After a gap of film appearances for 18 years, she returned to acting with Govind Nihalani's ''Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa'' (1998), a film about the Naxalite movement. In 2000 she starred in ''Fiza'' for which she received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her work. She also starred in Karan Johar's family drama ''Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'' (2001) with her husband. She then starred in Karan Johar's next film, ''Kal Ho Naa Ho'' (2003). She played the role of Preity Zinta's mother, Jennifer, for which she again received a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

In 2007 ''Laaga Chunari Mein Daag'', she appeared with son Abhishek Bachchan.

As of January 2011, she is set to appear in a Bangladeshi film titled ''Meherjaan'' starring with Victor Banerjee and Humayun Faridi. The film is based on a Bangaladesh-Pakistan love story in the backdrop of 1971 Bangladesh atrocities. Its a story of Meherjaan (played by Jaya Bachchan), a Bangladeshi girl who falls in love with a young Pakistani army officer who refuses to join the war and saves her from being raped by other Pakistani troops who do not however spare her cousin Neela and kill her father.

Political career

Bachchan was elected as a Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament, representing Rajya Sabha, and in February 2010 she stated her intent to complete her term.

Personal life

On 3 June 1973, she married actor Amitabh Bachchan. The couple have two children: Shweta Bachchan-Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan, who is also an actor. Shweta is married to industrialist Nikhil Nanda in Delhi, and has two children, Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda , while Abhishek Bachchan is married to Aishwarya Rai, also an actor.
