Zip Codes - United States Postal Service Promo featuring The Swingin' Six (1960s)
Zip Codes - United States Postal Service Promo featuring The Swingin' Six (1960s)
thefilmarchived.blogspot.com ZIP codes are a system of postal codes used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) since 1963. The term ZIP, an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan, is properly written in capital letters and was chosen to suggest that the mail travels more efficiently, and therefore more quickly, when senders use the code in the postal address. The basic format consists of five decimal numerical digits. An extended ZIP+4 code, introduced in the 1980s, includes the five digits of the ZIP code, a hyphen, and four more digits that determine a more precise location than the ZIP code alone. The term ZIP code was originally registered as a servicemark (a type of trademark) by the US Postal Service, but its registration has since expired. Mr. ZIP, informally "Zippy", is a cartoon character used in the 1960s by the United States Post Office Department, and in the 1970s by its successor, the United States Postal Service, to encourage the general public to include the ZIP code in all mailings. The USPS has described the origin of Mr. ZIP as follows: "Mr. ZIP was based on an original design by Howard Wilcox, son of a letter carrier and a member of the Cunningham and Walsh advertising agency, for use by a New York bank in a bank-by-mail campaign. Wilcox's design was a child-like sketch of a postman delivering a letter. The figure was used only a few times, then filed away. Later, AT&T acquired the design and made it available to the Post Office Department at no cost ...

The term ZIP code was originally registered as a servicemark (a type of trademark) by the US Postal Service, but its registration has since expired. The United States Post Office Department (USPOD) implemented postal zones for large cities in 1943. For example: Mr. John Smith 3256 Epiphenomenal Avenue Minneapolis 16, Minnesota The "16" is the number of the postal zone within the city. By the early 1960s a more general system was needed, and on July 1, 1963, non-mandatory ZIP codes were announced for the whole country. Simultaneously with the introduction of the ZIP code, two-letter state abbreviations were introduced. These were to be written with both letters capitalized. The reason for the two-letter abbreviations is that it was thought that a long city name coupled with a multi-letter state abbreviation (eg Mass. for Massachusetts) would be too long for address labels used on ...

Ethel Merman: Zip A Dee Zip Code
Ethel Merman: Zip A Dee Zip Code
In 1963, when first class postage was a nickel, Broadway's Ethel Merman belted out this tune introducing the American public to the Zoning Improvement Plan, or ZIP Code. It speeded mail delivery, replaced the old one-or-two-digit postal zone system, and rendered obsolete the Elvis Presley lyric, "return to sender/address unknown/no such number/no such zone." As for Mr. Zip, his dilated pupils and weird smile seem to indicate he's getting some sort of additional help in "speed"ing the mail, hmm?

Auto Insurance Quotes Find By Zip Code
Auto Insurance Quotes Find By Zip Code
Visit to - insuranceandquotes.info Find and Compare Insurance Quotes Quick and Easy - Be sure to first compare multiple auto insurance companies and review the type of insurance coverage that you'll need. For instance, if you don't have a great driving record or maybe have credit issues, you might want to review auto insurance rates from those companies who focus on providing customers with additional opportunities to earn additional discounts. If you have one or more vehicles, you will also probably find that most auto insurance companies will offer better rates for being your exclusive insurance provider. In other words, transferring all of your current insurance policies to one company can usually lead to a lower price on all your insurance. One of the fastest ways to lower your auto insurance premiums is to increase your comprehensive and collision deductibles. Let me first say that I personally do not like to see people raise their deductibles, but it is definitely better than cancelling your policy. I explained in an earlier post what your comprehensive and collision deductibles are so I won't go over that again but I will explain how they work. If you are involved in an accident and it is your fault than you are responsible to pay your deductible before your insurance company repairs your vehicle. Most people in Utah have $500 deductibles but that can range from $0 to $1000. If you don't want to be responsible for paying anything in the event of an accident than ...
