Pope creates ordinariates for Anglican dioceses
Pope creates ordinariates for Anglican dioceses
The bishops, priests and faithful Anglicans that until now have gone to the Catholic Church were received individually. Now, Benedict XVI has created a system so that Anglican parishes or entire dioceses, even, be received in the Catholic Church. Some 50 Anglican bishops have asked for their dioceses to be welcomed in this way. The system requires converts to accept the doctrine of the Catholic Church and the authority of the pope. Card. William Joseph Levada Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith "Yes they will be catholic and that will be clear because like people who go through RCIA or catechumenal process they ritually and personally makes a profession of faith and so thats clear." The structure that will welcome Anglican newcomers is based on personal ordinariates, similar to military ordinariates or Catholic churches of oriental rite. Mons. Joseph di Noia Secretary, Congregation for Divine Worship "This form, the personal ordinariates allows for something very much part of the local Church, and as groups emerge who wish now to take advantage Apostolic constitution wherever in the world they can do so in a local way in consultation with the Holy See and with the Conferences in each place." The Holy See names the ordinary which could be an Anglican priest or bishop received in the Catholic Church. Anglican bishops who are married cannot be ordinaries--only celibate Anglican bishops or priests will be able to exercise this charge. Anglican priests who are ...

Benedict XVI: Harmony Between Dioceses and Religious Congregations
Benedict XVI: Harmony Between Dioceses and Religious Congregations
Consecrated people can be compared to a plant with many branches which sinks its roots into the Gospel and brings forth abundant fruit in every season of the Church's life. These were the words of the Pope today in an address to Brazilian bishops from Region South 2 who are completing their Ad Limina visit. Speaking of partnerships between dioceses and religious congregations, Benedict XVI stressed that unity in diversity enriches the whole Church when it is true and effective. Religious communities, he said, cannot act independently or in an alternative way compared to their local diocese, and for its part, the diocese must make sure it values the resources of contemplatives and religious congregations.

Ant & Dec opens the Diocesan Youth Village, Co. Durham
The 5th July 2010 will always be a special day for youth ministry in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle because of the official opening of the Youth Village by Ant and Dec and blessing by Bishop Seamus Cunningham. Over 400 people, representing schools, parishes and community groups from around the diocese gathered to celebrate and mark the opening of the Youth Village which houses the Youth Ministry Team (YMT). The Youth Village has en-suite facilities to provide opportunities for over 90 young people to stay at any one time. The official opening was presided over by the diocesan Bishop, Seamus Cunningham who addressed the crowds and spoke of his dream to allow every young person in diocesan schools the opportunity of a residential retreat at the Youth Village. Fr. Dermott Donnelly, Director of Youth Services, paid tribute to the many volunteers who over the years had made a fantastic contribution to the youth ministry in the diocese. He also thanked the fundraisers and those who supported the work financially. He thanked his younger brother Dec and his other half Ant for their support with fundraising. After the speeches a moving liturgy took place focusing on the Gospel of John 10:10 when Jesus said 'I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full'. After the Gospel was proclaimed by Bishop Ambrose Griffiths, Bishop Emeritus, the site was blessed and the opening plaque was unveiled by the family of the late Bishop Kevin Dunn, the former Bishop of Hexham ...

MIRIAM SANTIAGO: IF THERE IS ANY BENEFIT TO THE BISHOPS AND DIOCESE, IT'S MERELY INCIDENTAL
ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES! Bishops get reverential treatment By Cathy Yamsuan, TJ Burgonio Philippine Daily Inquirer 1:54 am | Thursday, July 14th, 2011 SO HELP ME GOD. Catholic bishops embroiled in a PCSO charity fund misuse during President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's administration, take their oath at the start of Wednesday's Senate hearing. They are, from left, Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos, Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian, Msgr. David William Antonio (representing Most Rev. Ernesto Salgado), Bishop Rodolfo Beltran, Archbishop Orlando Quevedo, Archbishop Romulo Valles and Most Rev. Martin Jumoad. PHOTO BY LYN RILLON The reverential treatment of Catholic bishops began Wednesday with Sen. Miriam Santiago's declaration that "no constitutional violation" was committed with the disbursement of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds for the purchase of the prelates' vehicles. Santiago was allowed to deliver a speech at the start of the hearing of the Senate blue ribbon committee on the alleged misuse of PCSO funds in the acquisition of the vehicles. "The basic purpose of the grant of public funds is clearly stated on the face of the checks (issued by the PCSO) themselves: 'purchase of service vehicles to be used by the diocese in its various community and health programs.' If there is any benefit to the bishop and the diocese, it is merely incidental," Santiago said. Some senators said last week that the grant of donations to the bishops for the purchase of vehicles violated ...

Easter Mass at St. Vincent de Paul...a church the Diocese is planning to shutter
This was one of the last songs from the gorgeous Easter Mass at St. Vincent de Paul, a French-language church in New York City, NY. It has been the subject of attention in the past few years after appearing on a list of churches that face abandonment by the Diocese. Here is a link to the not-for-profit that is working to fight this closure. savestvincentdepaul.org This church is the home for a diverse body of Catholics from France, Belgium, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Switzerland, Togo and elsewhere. It also has a stewards program that provides assistance (in the form of money, guidance, and counseling) to anyone, whether they are a member or not, Catholic or other. Here is a link to the New York Times article from April 5th, 2012 that outlines the struggle that the church faces. cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com Please join me in working to make sure that it is allowed to build upon its 170-year legacy of charity and love.
