Pet CPR
Pet CPR
Elaine Acker, CEO of Pets Amercia, demonstrates the proper technique for performing CPR on pets. We shot this video with "Wolfgang" because he's a larger mannikin and the process is easier to see. However, this works the same way with cats. Just adjust the depth of your compressions accordingly (just as you would with an infant vs. an adolescent in human CPR).

Dog Trainer Saves Dog with CPR
Dog Trainer Saves Dog with CPR
Canyon Crest K9 Training Center owner, Ron Pace, saves the life of a boxer with CPR during a regular training session. During the session, the dog went into a seizure. As he stopped breathing and Lay-ed down Ron handed his assistant his Iphone with the video on and said to capture this so a veterinarian can see what happened. At that point he said to the handler move your hand so I can see if he is breathing and she said he is not. Ron immediately applied CPR. Sugar had stopped breathing for 2 minutes. He finally regained consciousness. Once the dog was resuscitated, the owner took him to the vet. It was later found out Sugar has Cardiomyopathy. We believe it's not just a coincidence that this dog's name happened to be SUGAR and his life was saved. Ron Pace has dedicated himself to training diabetic alert dogs to alert their owners to dangerous blood SUGAR levels. If you are touched by this story and want to help save a human life by providing them with a trained diabetic alert dog's.

Hands-Only CPR
Hands-Only CPR
www.ProCPR.org As of April, 2008, the American Heart Association began promoting hands-only CPR for lay rescuers. Hands-only CPR helps encourage lay rescuers to get involved who may not otherwise help. With this new technique, rescuers deliver 1.5 to 2 inch deep compressions at a rate of approximately 100 compressions per minute without the need to deliver rescue breaths in between. Hands-only CPR eliminates the fear of transmitting disease by removing the mouth-to-mouth component of CPR. 6 Update - In honor of CPR Awareness Week, ProCPR.org has created a Facebook Application to train people how to perform hands-only CPR and use an AED. You can find the application at apps.facebook.com
