Inquiry into the Creative Industries
Inquiry into the Creative Industries
From scriptwriters and jewellery designers, to software developers and architects, it is estimated that the Creative Industries in Northern Ireland employs around 31000 people. Maximising the potential of these industries and how they could be better supported is the subject of the Committee for Culture, Arts and Leisure's first Inquiry. Creative Industries are just that -- creative. Think architecture, advertising, art, antiques, crafts, fashion and design, video, film, photography, music, performing arts, radio, TV, software development, and computer games/design. The Committee is interested in your views on what challenges you face; what funding, training and other support is needed; and what opportunities exist to grow the creative industries? If you or your business is involved with any of these sectors in Northern Ireland, the Committee wants to hear from you. If you would like to do this you can write to the Committee detailing your views -- the deadline is 20 December 2011. Specifically, the Committee wants to investigate: Whether particular gaps exist in current policies, strategies and frameworks; If there is effective collaboration and co-ordination between industry, government departments and academia, in maximising and harnessing the full potential of the creative industries in Northern Ireland; The potential for the sector; and Any challenges facing it. We need to apply our creativity not only to working 'in' the business but also 'on' the business. - How creative entrepreneurs have raised finance for projects in unconventional ways, applying their creativity to business issues, including 'crowd-financing' or 'crowd-funding'. - How to Achieve Your Own Version of Success. Advice on being clear about your objectives and personal definition of "success". Don't just follow the crowd or develop your business in the way others suggest. Decide what you mean by Success - and then go and achieve it! --- This is a video of excerpts of the keynote speech by David Parrish, speaking on 'Creativity and Business' at the Shropshire Creative Business Conference in Shrewsbury on 19 July 2011. --- David Parrish helps creative people become the best they can be, by using smart business thinking. --- He helps creative and digital businesses become even more successful by bringing together creative people (T-Shirts) with smart business thinking (Suits). --- David is the author of the book 'T-Shirts and Suits: A Guide to the Business of Creativity ...
