Figure skating jumps are an element of three competitive figure skating disciplines — men's singles, ladies' singles, and pair skating but not ice dancing. Different jumps are identified by the take-off edge and the number of revolutions completed. There are six kinds of jumps currently counted as jump elements in ISU regulations. Three are edge jumps — the Salchow, loop, and Axel — and three are toe jumps which use the toe picks on the front of the blade — the toe loop, flip, and Lutz. The Axel is the most difficult due to an extra half rotation.
Each jump receives a score according to its base value and grade of execution (GOE). The GOE ranges from +3 to −3 and is weighted according to the jump's base value. Quality of execution, technique, height, speed, flow and ice coverage are considered by the judges. An under-rotated jump (indicated by < ) is "missing rotation of more than ¼, but less than ½ revolution" and receives 70% of the base value. A downgraded jump (indicated by <<) is "missing rotation of ½ revolution or more". A triple which is downgraded is treated as a double, while a downgraded double is treated as a single jump. The ISU defines a fall as a loss of control with the result that the majority of the skater's body weight is not on the blade but supported by hands, knees, or buttocks.
Figure skating is a sport and activity in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in 1908. The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating and four skating. From intermediate through senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (short and long) which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves.
The blade has a groove on the bottom creating two distinct edges — inside and outside. In figure skating, the skater should glide on one edge of the blade and not on both at the same time, which is referred to as a flat edge. During a spin, skaters use the "sweet spot" of the blade, which is the roundest portion of the blade, just behind the pick and near the middle of the blade. Skates used in single and pair skating have a set of large, jagged teeth called toe picks on the front of the blade. Toe picks are mainly used in the take-off for jumps. Ice dancing blades are an inch shorter in the rear and have smaller toe picks.
Mystery meat navigation (also known as MMN) is a disparaging term coined in 1998 by Vincent Flanders, author and designer of the website Web Pages That Suck, to describe a web page where the destination of the link is not visible until the user points their cursor at it. Such interfaces lack a user-centered design, emphasizing aesthetic appearance, white space, and the concealment of relevant information over basic practicality and functionality.
The epithet "mystery meat" refers to the meat products often served in American public school cafeterias whose forms have been so thoroughly reprocessed that their exact types can no longer be identified by their appearances: like them, the methods of MMN are clear to the producer but baffling to the consumer.
Flanders originally and temporarily described the phenomenon as Saturnic navigation in reference to the Saturn Corporation, whose company website epitomized this phenomenon. Flanders writes, "The typical form of MMN is represented by menus composed of unrevealing icons that are replaced with explicative text only when the mouse cursor hovers over them".

The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitute the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy.
The league was founded in 1966, as the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League (CMJHL), with seven western Canadian teams in Saskatchewan and Alberta. From 1967, the league was renamed the Western Canadian Hockey League (WCHL), before settling on the current WHL starting in 1978.
The league was the brainchild of Bill Hunter, who intended to build a western league capable of competing with the top leagues in Ontario and Quebec. Originally considered an "outlaw league" by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, the WHL was sanctioned as the top junior league in Western Canada when junior hockey was reorganized in 1970.

PLEASE READ THE CORRECTIONS IN THE DESCRIPTION BELOW It's an introduction to the different types of Figure Skating Jumps using Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) and Ashley Wagner (USA) as examples. It contains a few hints that I use to identify them. Hopefully you will find it useful too :) I apologize if there are some mistakes and constructive feedback is appreciated. NOTE: at 0.39 seconds, I made a typo. the Flip is a TOE JUMP, and the other edge jump is the LOOP. And at 6:41, it's a clockwise 3LO, not 3F. I hope you can see it with the annotations.

This video is a turtorial on figure skating. It will help any beginner skater master the basic moves of footwork, spins in jumps in figure skating. Please note that there is an error when it says to rotate 180 degrees during the jumps section - it is actually a full rotation, only the waltz jump is a 180 degree turn.

this video, Tom talks about more details of the axel take-off. In particular he talks about the arms and the head position and movement. He begins by discussing what he calls the “L and the reverse L” which is a way for skaters to feel they keep their right arm and leg aligned through the take-off. Tom also wants the skater’s head to go to the right, although he brings up a good point that the head really continues facing the jump direction while the body starts to rotate to the left. Many skaters explain this feeling as turning the head to the right and many coaches like Tom have had success telling their skaters to do this. It’s a very effective way to minimize jumping “into the circle” as Tom explains.

Tonya Harding - Anything To Win (Figure Skating Documentary) Tonya Maxene Harding (born November 12, 1970) is an American figure skating champion, a two-time Olympian, and a two-time Skate America Champion. In 1991 she won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and placed second in the World Championships. She was the second woman, and the first American woman, to complete a triple axel jump in competition. She became notorious after her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, conspired with Shawn Eckhardt and Shane Stant to physically assault her skating competitor Nancy Kerrigan at a practice session during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
A great part of physics deals with motion, and the essence of sports is the human body in motion. The components of the human body that produce motion, namely the skeletal muscles and bones, and the sports equipment itself are bound by the laws of physics. Aspects of various sports, including baseball, basketball, karate, figure skating, golf, tennis, long jump, and more, will be examined using introductory-level physics. We will also discuss whether we have reached our limits in human performance in certain sports. All who appreciate the workings of the human body and the laws of science dictating performance in sports are welcome.
