The largest ever exhibition on Hajj in the west, entitled "Journey to the heart of Islam" was officially opened at the British Museum by Prince Charles and Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdulla deputy minister of foreign affairs in Saudi Arabia. King Abdulaziz public library a major contributor to the Hajj exhibition painstakingly gathered other treasures from public and private collection from the UK, Saudi Arabia and other parts of the world to display over 250 remarkable items. Prince Charles emphasized the spiritual aspect of this trip made by 3 million Muslims to Makkah every year and paid special tribute to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz on the hospitality to pilgrims in providing all facilities to them. Beautiful relics, including historical and contemporary art, textiles and manuscripts bring to life the profound significance of the Hajj, the pilgrimage that has remained unchanged since the prophet Mohamed's time in the seventh century. The exhibition traces some of the main routes Muslims have followed over the centuries to get to Makkah, including from Kufa, Cairo and Damascus, and seeks to explain some of the rituals associated with the Hajj. It features recorded accounts of what the journey meant to Muslims around the world and includes loaned items from Saudi Arabia such as a "sitara" which covers the door of the Ka'ba. Among the artifacts on display is a "Mahmal", one of the ceremonial curtained transports in which the Sultans were ...

Muslim foreigners attend Hajj pilgrimage
Muslim foreigners attend Hajj pilgrimage
The presence of Western people next to the walls of the Prophet's mosque confirms that "Islamophobia" has not prevented those whom God wanted to guide from following the Islamic religion, and proves that European people know more about Islam than their governments do. A Belgian Muslim pilgrim said he was pleased to attend Hajj, "I'm very happy when I see the people from all over the world and the Muslims are all like one body." Serious desire to perform Hajj is spreading among new Muslims; therefore, most of them come in small groups or even individually. They sit in the corners of "Yathrib", invoking the Hegira, and record every moment in "al-Tayba, also known as al-Madina city". "I saw pictures from Madina and Mecca on the internet and the Television. Then I came here and the Hotel is close by. I feel great and close to god and spiritual. It's an unbelievable feeling," said a German Muslim pilgrim. That is a motto that all Western Muslims agree on, promising to be the ambassadors in their countries against the movements trying to distort the real image of Islam. "Here in Medina and Mecca the city is surrounded by hotels. It is very big and I am surprised asking where the children and women are. So I asked the people on the street where the children and women are," said a Belgian Muslim woman. History shows that men and women from Western countries, such as the guests in this report, have in many cases contributed to Islam more than Arabs have. Author: Saoud al-Khalaf ...

Muslims arrive in Mecca to begin hajj
Muslims arrive in Mecca to begin hajj
The area around Islam's holiest site is bustling with pilgrims who are all in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to perform their hajj pilgrimage. It is estimated that more than 1.5 million are already in the city, and thousands more are expected to arrive in the coming days. People have traveled from far and wide; some by plane, others by train, coaches or ferries. The price of going on the hajj can be costly, with many pilgrims saving for a lifetime and spending thousands of dollars to perform the pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam. For some people traveling from Britain, for example, the cost of a hajj travel and accommodation package can cost between 2500- to 6000 pounds sterling, the equivalent of $4000 - $9600. But even for those who don't need to travel so far, the price of hajj is still expensive. "The cost of hajj is around 4000 dollars, and 1000 dollars of expenses for the household, food and drink," said al-Hayan, a pilgrim from Morocco. Due to the high costs, some people like Egyptian Rajab Abdullah save up for years. ''For 28 years, I've been working, and I've worked hard. But I had to come and do my hajj, I had to, I had to," he said. Some people are willing to spend vast amounts to secure a comfortable travel and accommodation package. Hajj packages vary from $5000 to $27000. Many pilgrims are fortunate enough to have their hajj expenses paid for by other people, as an act of charity. Some countries like Egypt also offer hajj packages at government-subsidized ...
