Jörg Haider
Jörg Haider (German pronunciation: [ˈjœɐ̯k ˈhaɪdɐ]; 26 January 1950 – 11 October 2008) was an Austrian politician. He was Governor of Carinthia on two occasions, the long-time leader of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and later Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Austria (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich, BZÖ), a breakaway party from the FPÖ.
Haider was a controversial figure within Austria and abroad. Several countries imposed mild diplomatic sanctions against his party's participation in government alongside Wolfgang Schüssel's ÖVP, starting from 2000. Haider died in a car accident shortly after leading the BZÖ in the 2008 Austrian Parliamentary elections.

Haider's parents had been early members of the Austrian Nazi Party (DNSAP, the Austrian affiliate of the NSDAP, the German Nazi Party). They were from different backgrounds. Haider's father, Robert Haider, was a shoemaker. His mother, Dorothea Rupp, was the daughter of a well-to-do physician and head of the gynaecology ward at the general hospital of Linz.

Haider is the soundtrack album, composed by Vishal Bhardwaj, to the 2014 Hindi film of the same name. The film, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Kay Kay Menon in key roles. The film is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Bhardwaj. The soundtrack album features nine tracks, and was released on 15 September 2014 (2014-09-15) on the record label Junglee Music. Vishal Bhardwaj and Sukhwinder Singh won the National Award for Best Music Direction of Songs and Best Male Playback Singer respectively.

Haider (film)
Haider is a 2014 Indian crime drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and co-written by Basharat Peer and Bhardwaj. It stars Shahid Kapoor as the titular protagonist, and co-stars Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon. Irrfan Khan appears in an extended special appearance. The film is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, set amidst the insurgency-hit Kashmir conflicts of 1995 and civilian disappearances. Haider, a young student and a poet, returns to Kashmir at the peak of the conflict to seek answers about his father's disappearance and ends up being tugged into the politics of the state.
Haider is the third installment of Bhardwaj's Shakespearean trilogy after Maqbool (2003) and Omkara (2006). The film was screened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival, and released worldwide on 2 October 2014 to wide critical acclaim, and garnered attention from the media due to its controversial subject matter. The direction, performances of Kay Kay Menon, Tabu and Shahid Kapoor, screenplay, film score and editing received praise and garnered several accolades.

Joerg Haider summoned foreign journalists to Klagenfurt on Monday, the capital of the province of Carinthia which he governs.
His aim was to show them that Austrians and "especially members of the Freedom Party ... are good people."
He reiterated past comments made by new chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel, that while Haider may be a populist, he's no Hitler.

"It is stupid to imagine that the whole world is afraid of Mr Haider. He is the leader of a 27 percent party in Austria. It's unbelievable that the whole world is afraid, Mr Clinton is afraid of Mr Haider? Perhaps he is afraid that I take a competition with him at the marathon in New York, then he has to be afraid because I am much quicker than he."

Haider's far-right Freedom Party joined up with the centre-right Austrian People's Party after inconclusive elections last October.
The coalition won approval despite a wave of protests and moves by the European Union and other nations to isolate Austria diplomatically.

"But I am a bit angry about some people who are part of this demonstration, especially if you look among the demonstrators, the people in the crowd, you will see that there are a lot of professional rioters who try to make, to provoke a controversial situation in Austria. We are an open society, we invite people to be Austrian.” It’s a sentiment that’s playing well to a nationalistic youth; the Freedom Party won 40% support from the under 30s in the last election. “He has the touch of a young man,” enthuses the head of the party’s youth wing, “we want to solve first the problems of Austrians – of our own people.” On the streets, those ‘foreigners’ are beginning to feel the winds of change. Doran Rabinovic is a writer and a Jew. His community has reported a ten-fold increase in harassment and abuse since the election, and he rejects Haider’s apologies and backtracks on the issue of race as a political ploy. “He knows very well that people vote for him only because of his racist motives and this is his policy - his policy is to strengthen the problems of every day life to make out of social problems ethnic problems.” At a Viennese refugee welfare centre, the director has also noted a shifting perception of her work. “In ’91 it was like ‘oh you’re helping people’… a Mother Teresa theme. It changed towards ‘oh do you think it’s right to bring in foreigners?’” In many ways Haider is just the latest of Europe’s far right leaders to exploit the xenophobia of fortress Europe but he is also by far the most successful. If opinion polls are to be believed he would win another election as the largest single party. He clearly has his sights set on becoming the next Chancellor.

In an interview with Associated Press Television News Joerg Haider lashed out at the European Union for its drive to ostracize Austria over his party's role in government.
Haider dismissed European economic sanctions as ineffective and warned the French that they must learn to deal with the Austrians when Paris takes over the rotating E-U presidency in July.
Haider resigned as leader of the far-right Freedom Party on Monday.
From his headquarters in Klagenfurt, where he serves as governor of Carinthia state, Haider was again on the offensive.
Haider refuted claims that his resignation as leader of the right-wing Freedom Party was a ruse to bring an immediate end to the international diplomatic sanctions imposed when the new government took office.
Haider's resignation has also been dismissed by critics as a ploy to boost his chances of leading a future Austrian government.

"I don't want it to come about that my party has to work under the impression that there is a shadow chancellor (Haider himself) who gives them instructions. I also wanted to send a signal showing that the Freedom Party is a self sufficient member of the (Austrian) government and that they don't need me to control them."

Haider kept up the stream of invective against his opponents.
Haider accused Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres of having conflicting aims.
Portugal now holds the E-U rotating presidency.

"We feel here that there is a fundamental basis of the E-U treaty (at stake) - which everyone in the E-U knows about - this has only come about due to the fact that Guterres holds the E-U presidency and is also the head of the International Socialists and in this mixture of the two presidencies he's done a bad job for Europe. He has preferred to give his support to the Austrian socialists even though they lost the elections and now the E-U has to try to get out of that mess that he got them into."

Referring to France's term as next E-U president, Haider said that France should 'treat Austria decently'.
Austria - which remains an E-U member - is still able to exercise its veto on E-U measures.
The 14 other E-U members downgraded relations with Austria because of the presence of Haider's party in the government.

Seeking to calm foreign concern about his personality and his party, right-wing populist Joerg Haider on Monday says he has no plans to lead Austria in the next few years
He also apologised for his past praise of the Nazi era and says that means he has acknowledged his mistakes.
Although his Freedom Party now forms half of the federal government, Haider is not actively involved.
But foreign and domestic critics fear that he will pull the strings from the sidelines, from
southern Carinthia province.
Joerg Haider summoned foreign journalists to Klagenfurt on Monday, the capital of the province of Carinthia which he governs.
His aim was to show them that Austrians and "especially members of the Freedom Party ... are good people."
He reiterated past comments made by new chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel, that while Haider may be a populist, he's no Hitler.

"It is stupid to imagine that the whole world is afraid of Mr Haider. He is the leader of a 27 percent party in Austria. It's unbelievable that the whole world is afraid, Mr Clinton is afraid of Mr Haider? Perhaps he is afraid that I take a competition with him at the marathon in New York, then he has to be afraid because I am much quicker than he."

Haider's far-right Freedom Party joined up with the centre-right Austrian People's Party after inconclusive elections last October.
The coalition won approval despite a wave of protests and moves by the European Union and other nations to isolate Austria diplomatically.
Anti-Haider protests have also been held within Austria, but Haider claims they're not legit.

"But I am a bit angry about some people who are part of this demonstration, especially if you look among the demonstrators, the people in the crowd, you will see that there are a lot of professional rioters who try to make, to provoke a controversial situation in Austria. It has nothing to do with the real political discussions, they only try to destabilise the political system in Austria."

Haider claims many of these people come into Austria from other countries purely to protest.

Concern about Haider's ambiguous stance toward the Hitler era, his party's policies on immigration and opposition to European Union expansion, has led to E-U sanctions on Austria.
The United States has recalled its ambassador for consultations, while Israel has withdrawn its ambassador and forbidden Haider to visit.

The rise of Haider’s right-wing Freedom Party sent shockwaves across Europe. Is a new anti-immigrant, anti-EU European right making its debut? On the frontline of Fortress Europe we watch one desperate man make his dash for freedom across the Austrian border. 42,000 refugees were apprehended crossing here last year, no one knows how many made it through illegally. And it’s this level of migration that is fuelling the xenophobic fervour being so skilfully stirred by Jörg Haider.
In a revealing interview, the charismatic Mr Haider eschews his anti-foreigner policies. He dismisses the very idea of multiculturalism. “Someone who comes has to accept our way of life. We are an open society, we invite people to be Austrian.” It’s a sentiment that’s playing well to a nationalistic youth; the Freedom Party won 40% support from the under 30s in the last election. “He has the touch of a young man,” enthuses the head of the party’s youth wing, “we want to solve first the problems of Austrians – of our own people.” On the streets, those ‘foreigners’ are beginning to feel the winds of change. Doran Rabinovic is a writer and a Jew. His community has reported a ten-fold increase in harassment and abuse since the election, and he rejects Haider’s apologies and backtracks on the issue of race as a political ploy. “He knows very well that people vote for him only because of his racist motives and this is his policy - his policy is to strengthen the problems of every day life to make out of social problems ethnic problems.” At a Viennese refugee welfare centre, the director has also noted a shifting perception of her work. “In ’91 it was like ‘oh you’re helping people’… a Mother Teresa theme. It changed towards ‘oh do you think it’s right to bring in foreigners?’” In many ways Haider is just the latest of Europe’s far right leaders to exploit the xenophobia of fortress Europe but he is also by far the most successful. If opinion polls are to be believed he would win another election as the largest single party. He clearly has his sights set on becoming the next Chancellor.

In an interview with Associated Press Television News Joerg Haider lashed out at the European Union for its drive to ostracize Austria over his party's role in government.
Haider dismissed European economic sanctions as ineffective and warned the French that they must learn to deal with the Austrians when Paris takes over the rotating E-U presidency in July.
Haider resigned as leader of the far-right Freedom Party on Monday.
From his headquarters in Klagenfurt, where he serves as governor of Carinthia state, Haider was again on the offensive.
Haider refuted claims that his resignation as leader of the right-wing Freedom Party was a ruse to bring an immediate end to the international diplomatic sanctions imposed when the new government took office.
Haider's resignation has also been dismissed by critics as a ploy to boost his chances of leading a future Austrian government.

"I don't want it to come about that my party has to work under the impression that there is a shadow chancellor (Haider himself) who gives them instructions. I also wanted to send a signal showing that the Freedom Party is a self sufficient member of the (Austrian) government and that they don't need me to control them."

Haider kept up the stream of invective against his opponents.
Haider accused Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres of having conflicting aims.
Portugal now holds the E-U rotating presidency.

"We feel here that there is a fundamental basis of the E-U treaty (at stake) - which everyone in the E-U knows about - this has only come about due to the fact that Guterres holds the E-U presidency and is also the head of the International Socialists and in this mixture of the two presidencies he's done a bad job for Europe. He has preferred to give his support to the Austrian socialists even though they lost the elections and now the E-U has to try to get out of that mess that he got them into."

Referring to France's term as next E-U president, Haider said that France should 'treat Austria decently'.
Austria - which remains an E-U member - is still able to exercise its veto on E-U measures.
The 14 other E-U members downgraded relations with Austria because of the presence of Haider's party in the government.

"For the future I'm not so worried as the way I know the 'Grand Nation' (France) is that they have the ambition of taking big decisions. On the other hand we know in the E-U there is the rule of consent in decision making which means that without Austria nothing will function. "Nous ne sommes pas un parti d'extrême droite"
À dix jours des élections législatives anticipées en Autriche, euronews a rencontré Jörg Haider, le leader du BZÖ, traduisez "alliance pour l'avenir de l'Autriche". Son parti né de la scission avec le FPÖ, aux idées résolument encrées à droite est crédité de 4 à 8% des intentions de vote. Un score qui pourrait permettre à Jörg Haider de revenir aux affaires au sein d'une coalition, comme en l'an 2000. L'extrême droite au pouvoir : une situation qui avait fait couler beaucoup d'encre, choqué la plupart des pays européens, et isolé diplomatiquement l'Autriche. Si les sondages se confirment le 28 septembre, les deux grands partis qui recueillent moins de 30% des voix, devront faire alliance avec les petits partis. Des manoeuvres politiques qui seront sans doute observées à la loupe par les 26 autres membres de l'UE.
Jörg Haider
Jörg Haider (German pronunciation: [ˈjœɐ̯k ˈhaɪdɐ]; 26 January 1950 – 11 October 2008) was an Austrian politician. He was Governor of Carinthia on two occasions, the long-time leader of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and later Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Austria (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich, BZÖ), a breakaway party from the FPÖ.
Haider was a controversial figure within Austria and abroad. Several countries imposed mild diplomatic sanctions against his party's participation in government alongside Wolfgang Schüssel's ÖVP, starting from 2000. Haider died in a car accident shortly after leading the BZÖ in the 2008 Austrian Parliamentary elections.
Early life
Parents
Haider's parents had been early members of the Austrian Nazi Party (DNSAP, the Austrian affiliate of the NSDAP, the German Nazi Party). They were from different backgrounds. Haider's father, Robert Haider, was a shoemaker. His mother, Dorothea Rupp, was the daughter of a well-to-do physician and head of the gynaecology ward at the general hospital of Linz.
