"My Reverie" is a 1938 popular song with lyrics by Larry Clinton. Its melody is based on the 1890 piano piece Rêverie by the French classical composer Claude Debussy. A 1938 recording of the song by Clinton and his band with Bea Wain as the vocalist was a hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Record Buying Guide in the same year. "My Reverie" went on to be recorded by other vocalists including Mildred Bailey, Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Helen Forrest, and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as bands led by Paul Whiteman, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton, Glenn Miller, Nelson Eddy, Esquivel, and Ray Conniff.
The original Bea Wain recording of "My Reverie" was used in the 2002 film One Hour Photo and in the 2011 television miniseries Mildred Pierce.
In James A. Michener's 1971 novel The Drifters, characters discuss Bea Wain and her recording of "My Reverie" in two separate chapters of the book.
Reverie may refer to:
Larry Clinton (August 17, 1909 – May 2, 1985) was a trumpeter who became a prominent American bandleader and arranger.
Clinton was born in Brooklyn, New York. He became a versatile musician, playing trumpet, trombone, and clarinet. While in his twenties, he became a prolific arranger for dance orchestras; bandleaders Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Glen Gray, Louis Armstrong, and Bunny Berigan all used Larry Clinton charts.
His first stint as a bandleader was from 1937 to 1941, and he recorded a string of hits for Victor Records. The Clinton band's repertoire was split between pop tunes of the day ("I Double Dare You," "Summer Souvenirs," etc.), ambitious instrumentals penned by Clinton (the most popular, "A Study in Brown," begat four sequels in different "colors"). and swing adaptations of classical compositions. This last category swept the industry, and orchestras everywhere were "swinging the classics" by adding pop lyrics to melodies by Debussy and Tchaikovsky. His version of Debussy’s "Reverie", with vocalist Bea Wain, was particularly popular. Entitled "My Reverie", his version peaked at #1 on Billboard's Record Buying Guide in 1938.

Thomas Francis "Tommy" Dorsey, Jr. (November 19, 1905 – November 26, 1956) was an American jazz trombonist, trumpeter, composer, and bandleader of the Big Band era. He was known as the "Sentimental Gentleman of Swing", because of his smooth-toned trombone playing. Although he was not known for being a notable soloist, his technical skill on the trombone gave him renown amongst other musicians. He was the younger brother of bandleader Jimmy Dorsey. After Dorsey broke with his brother in the mid-1930s, he led an extremely popular and highly successful band from the late 1930s into the 1950s. He is best remembered for standards such as "Song of India", "Marie", "On Treasure Island", "The Music Goes 'Round and Around", and "You".
Thomas Francis Dorsey, Jr., was born in Mahanoy Plane, Pennsylvania, the second of four children born to Thomas Francis Dorsey, Sr., a bandleader himself, and Theresa (née Langton) Dorsey. He and Jimmy, his older brother by slightly less than two years, would become famous as the "Dorsey Brothers". The two younger siblings were Mary and Edward (who died young). Tommy Dorsey initially studied the trumpet with his father, only to later switch to the trombone.
"And I" is a song written by American R&B singer Ciara, and produced by Adonis Shropshire for Ciara's first album, Goodies (2004). It was released as the album's fourth and final single on August 30, 2005 (see 2005 in music) in North America.
The song was originally the third choice for the fourth single. Ciara has mentioned in an interview that "Thug Style", "Hotline" or "Pick up the Phone" would be the fourth single, but when Ciara suggested "And I" to executives at her previous record label LaFace, they were unhappy because they wanted "Next to You" to be the fourth single.
At the time of the U.S. release of "And I", Ciara's collaboration with Bow Wow, "Like You", and her collaboration with Missy Elliott, "Lose Control", were at the height of their popularity. "And I" peaked at 96 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and 27 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, which were poor positions compared to those attained by the first three singles from the album Goodies. It was not released outside North America because of this, and it is Ciara's least successful single.

Betty Carter (born Lillie Mae Jones, May 16, 1929 – September 26, 1998) was an American jazz singer known for her improvisational technique, scatting and other complex musical abilities that demonstrated her vocal talent and imaginative interpretation of lyrics and melodies.

Larry Clinton (1909-1985) was a trumpeter, big band leader, and arranger. He was at the forefront of a musical trend in the 1930's called "swinging the classics", where pop lyrics were added to swing adaptations of classical compositions. He created a version of Debussy's "Reverie" entitled "My Reverie" which became very popular. His version, with lyrics sung by Bea Wain, was a Billboard #1 song in 1938. The version in this video was taken from a CD of original recordings entitled "Big Band For Lovers". It is an instrumental, but I don't know when Larry Clinton first recorded it. As always, I don't own the images or the music, and make no profit. "Fair Use" I hope you enjoy "My Reverie".

As part of my BA in Film and Television, I was required to make a 3 minute fictional piece. Reverie is my brain-child of this endeavour. A reverie, can be defined as a daydream, abstract thought or absent mindedness. The story follows a young man, thrown into his own reverie through an alcohol binge. However, things get a little too strange for his liking, perhaps even pushing the boundaries of the definition itself. Enjoy. And now the purple dusk of twilight time Steals across the meadows of my heart High up in the sky the little stars climb Always reminding me that we're apart You wander down the lane and far away Leaving me a song that will not die Love is now the stardust of yesterday The music of the years gone by Sometimes I wonder why I spend The lonely night dreaming of a song The melody haunts my reverie And I am once again with you When our love was new And each kiss an inspiration But that was long ago Now my consolation Is in the stardust of a song Beside a garden wall When stars are bright You are in my arms The nightingale tells his fairy tale of paradise where roses grew Though I dream in vain In my heart it will remain My stardust melody The memory of love's refrain +++ Learn About The M...

Our love is a dream, but in my reverie
I can see that this love was meant for me
Only a poor fool never schooled in the whirlpool of romance
Could be so cruel as you are to me
My dreams are as worthless as tin to me
Without you life would never begin to be
So love me as I love you in my reverie
Make my dream a reality,
Let's dispense with formality,
