Roderic Evans (born 19 January 1947) is an English former singer. In the late 1960s he began his professional career in The Maze, formerly MI5, after which he was a member of the original Deep Purple line-up who produced three studio albums with a more progressive and pop driven sound. After recording a solo single, he was a member of the original Captain Beyond line-up, who produced two studio albums. After a legal struggle with Deep Purple in 1980, Evans turned reclusive and disappeared from public life.
Evans was born in Eton, Buckinghamshire He played together with drummer Ian Paice, in The Maze, formerly MI5. He was also in a band called The Horizons in the mid 1960s. Reports state that Evans also worked as a male model around this time. He was tall and had good posture.
Evans and Paice were original members of Deep Purple when they formed in Hertfordshire in 1968. The most recognised song recorded with Evans singing is "Hush", which reached No. 4 on the US Billboard charts in October 1968. After recording three studio albums, he was dismissed in 1969. His departure from the band was in part due to Evans' desire to move to the United States.
Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
Deep Purple have had several line-up changes and an eight-year hiatus (1976–1984). The 1968–1976 line-ups are commonly labelled Mark I, II, III and IV. Their second and most commercially successful line-up featured Ian Gillan (vocals), Jon Lord (organ), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), and Ritchie Blackmore (guitar). This line-up was active from 1969 to 1973, and was revived from 1984 to 1989, and again from 1992 to 1993. The band achieved more modest success in the intervening periods between 1968 and 1969 with the line-up including Rod Evans (vocals) and Nick Simper (bass, backing vocals), between 1974 and 1976 (Tommy Bolin replacing Blackmore in 1975) with the line-up including David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals), and between 1989 and 1992 with the line-up including Joe Lynn Turner (vocals). The band's line-up (currently featuring Ian Gillan, and guitarist Steve Morse from 1994) has been much more stable in recent years, although organist Jon Lord's retirement from the band in 2002 (being succeeded by Don Airey) left Ian Paice as the only original Deep Purple member still in the band.
Ian Anderson Paice (born 29 June 1948) is an English musician, best known as the drummer of the English rock band Deep Purple. As of Jon Lord's departure in 2002, he is the only continuous member of the band, and as such is the only member to appear on every album the band has released.
Ian Paice got his first drum kit at 15. He began his professional career in the late 50s playing drums in his father's dance band. The first band he was in was called Georgie & the Rave-Ons, which after being renamed for The Shindigs released their first single featuring 17-year-old Ian Paice and George Adams.
In 1966 Paice joined The MI5, which soon changed its name to The Maze and produced a number of singles, recorded mainly in Italy and France. The band featured Rod Evans, who alongside Paice was to form the original line-up of Deep Purple in February 1968.
During this time Ian Paice was also heavily involved in doing sessions for various artists from the stable of the famous 60s producer Derek Lawrence.
Richard Hugh "Ritchie" Blackmore (born 14 April 1945) is an English guitarist and songwriter, who began his career as a session musician as a member of the instrumental band The Outlaws and as a backing musician of pop singers such as Glenda Collins, Heinz, Screaming Lord Sutch and Neil Christian.
Blackmore became a founding member of Deep Purple in 1968, playing jam-style hard-rock music which mixed simple guitar riffs and organ sounds. During his solo career, he established a band called Rainbow which fused baroque music influences and elements of hard rock. Rainbow gradually progressed to catchy pop style hard rock. Later in life, he formed the traditional folk rock project Blackmore's Night transitioning to vocalist-centred sounds. Their latest album, All Our Yesterdays, was released on 18 September 2015.
Blackmore was born at Allendale Nursing Home in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset as second son to Lewis J. Blackmore and Violet (née Short). The family moved to Heston, Middlesex when Blackmore was two. He was 11 when he was given his first guitar by his father on certain conditions, including learning how to play properly, so he took classical guitar lessons for one year.
Ian Gillan (born 19 August 1945) is an English singer and songwriter. He originally found commercial success as the lead singer and lyricist for Deep Purple.
Initially influenced by Elvis Presley, Gillan started and fronted several local bands in the mid-sixties, and eventually joined Episode Six when their original singer left. He first found widespread commercial success after joining Deep Purple in 1969. After an almost non-stop workload, during which time he recorded six albums in four years, and problematic relationships with other band members, particularly guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, Gillan resigned from the band in June 1973, having given a lengthy notice period to their managers.
After a short time away from the music business, he resumed his music career with solo bands the Ian Gillan Band and Gillan, before a year-long stint as the vocalist for Black Sabbath. He rejoined a reformed Deep Purple in 1984, but was fired in 1989. He rejoined the band for a second time in 1992 for their twenty-fifth anniversary, and following the recruitment of guitarist Steve Morse in 1994, has helped transform the group into a regular touring outfit, which he has fronted ever since.
"Jon plays harpsichord on this track, which is a love song, sort of squeezed into the format of a twelve bar blues. The middle section is a descending chromatic sequence which is intended to give a sort of "slowing down" effect." Deep Purple - Blind I see reflections in the water Autumn colours, summer's daughter And as as the year is growing older I see winter on my shoulder I stand in the haze Watching stormy ripples grow on my own Never knew your needing Till I found myself standing here alone And in the water, such a sad face Slowly drowning, such a sad face If only I could change the seasons Like a poet, I've my reasons It started to snow in the middle of July Wonder why Never did understand you My sorrow is hanging in the grey sky In the summer days we...

One of the more overlooked super groups in the history of rock, CAPTAIN BEYOND was formed by ex-DEEP PURPLE singer Rod Evans, ex-IRON BUTTERFLY guitarists Larry Reinhart and Lee Dorman, and ex Johnny Winter drummer Bobby Caldwell in 1972. The band only put out three albums, and never achieved more than a cult following, but they also managed to put out three strong albums of psychedelic guitar rock, reminiscent of a heavier PINK FLOYD at times. After their 1972 self-titled debut album, Caldwell quit and was replaced by Marty Rodriguez. With Rodriguez, the band produced a 1973 sophomore effort titled "Sufficiently Breathless", after which Evans departed and the band went on hiatus. It wasn't until 1976 that they returned, at which point Caldwell rejoined and Willy Daffern (who had previousl...

The album was recorded at the University of Texas at Arlington in support of King Crimson. The album was not officially released until 2002. Originally this performance was available only through their fan club. Few were sold due to terrible sound quality and crude packaging. The discs were simple CD-Rs with titles silkscreen...

They're all still on their honeymoon
Just read the dialogue balloon
Everyone loves you--
Why should they not?
And I'm the only one who knows
That disneyland's about to close
I don't suppose you'd give it a shot
Knowing all that you've got
Are cigarettes and red vines
Just close your eyes, 'cause, baby--
You never do know
And I'll be on the sidelines,
With my hands tied,
Watching the show
Well, it's always fun and games until
It's clear you haven't got the skill
In keeping the gag from going too far
So you're running 'round the parking lot
'til every lightning bug is caught
Punching some pinholes
In the lid of a jar
While we wait in the car
With cigarettes and red vines
Just close your eyes, 'cause, baby--
You never do know
And I'll be on the sidelines,
With my hands tied,
Watching the show
And tell me, would it kill you
Would it really spoil everything
If you didn't blame yourself
Do you know what I mean?
Cigarettes and red vines
Just close your eyes, 'cause,
Baby--
You never do know
And I'll be on the sidelines,
With my hands tied,
Watching the show
