How did County Clare get its name?
It is often said that County Clare is named after the de Clares. However this is not the origin, rather, the name comes from the Irish word 'Clár', meaning a board or plank. A board was placed across the river Fergus outside Ennis, at a place which was to become known as Clare, (now Clarecastle town). This Clare was a place of some importance as early as the 12th Century - thus predating the arrival of the de Clare family to County Clare.
Why is County Clare often called 'The Banner County'?
The custom of carrying banners goes back a long way in County Clare. There is little doubt but that the Dal gCais carried banners at the battle of Clontarf in 1014 or that the Clare Dragoons carried banners at Fontenoy in 1745 and in the many battles fought by the Clare Regiments on the continent during the eighteenth century. However, the name 'the banner county' would appear to be of far more recent origin. In the last century as population of the county became more politicized the custom of carrying banners to political meetings became widespread. Thus many banners welcomed Daniel O'Connell at the Clare election of 1828 and the freeholders of the county marched behind banners to the Ennis courthouse to cast their votes for O'Connell on that occasion.
In Ennis most trade guilds had their own banners: bakers, butchers, brogue makers, coopers, nailers, dyers, masons, harness makers, cartwrights, stone cutters etc. all competed to produce the most handsome of banners. At the inaugeration of the O'Connell monument in Ennis in 1865 thirteen different guilds carried banners, each representing the attributes of their particular trade. That this represented a long tradition in the town is not in doubt since, on that occasion, the brogue makers' guild carried a flag that had first been unfurled in 1726.
My own great grandfather, Brian Daly, was the custodian of the Ennis coopers' banner and parts of the banner are still retained by the family. The coopers' banner was not of the two pole variety that one usually sees today but was carried on a long single pole, topped by a small barrel; the banner itself hung down like a picture from a horizontal staff stretched across the top of the pole. I can recall as a child seeing the banner which was then much injured by time; it was a rusted red colour and carried the inscription 'Hearts of Oak'. This banner along with many others were carried along the streets to greet the various dignitaries that visited the town in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Politicians like Parnell and de Valera were greeted by hosts of banners. It is easy to see then in the political excitement of the times how the county acquired the name 'the banner county'. The reason the name stuck with Clare, I would suggest, was that custom of greeting politicians with banners, particularly at election time, survived longer in Clare than in other counties. The Parnellite and de Valera eras coincided with the rise of the GAA and the name soon transferred to the county's hurling and football teams.

So I went to the TMI mall tour in Philly to meet the author and cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and it was AMAZING! And let me explain the whole "Clarybelle" thing:) I was wearing the Isabelle dress and necklace with fishnets and heeled boots but I have bright red SUPER curly hair like Clary:) people kept asking to take pictures of or get a picture with me and complimenting me all day and it was so sweet!

Clare Greet (14 June 1871 – 14 February 1939) was an English stage and film actress. She appeared in 26 films between 1921 and 1939, including six films directed by (and one produced by) Alfred Hitchcock. She was born in Leicestershire and died in London.

Alfred Hitchcock
Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an English film director and producer, often nicknamed "The Master of Suspense". He pioneered many elements of the suspense and psychological thriller genres. He had a successful career in British cinema with both silent films and early talkies and became renowned as England's best director. Hitchcock moved to Hollywood in 1939 and became a US citizen in 1955.
Over a career spanning half a century, Hitchcock fashioned for himself a recognisable directorial style. His stylistic trademarks include the use of camera movement that mimics a person's gaze, forcing viewers to engage in a form of voyeurism. In addition, he framed shots to maximise anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative forms of film editing. His work often features fugitives on the run alongside "icy blonde" female characters. Many of Hitchcock's films have twist endings and thrilling plots featuring depictions of murder and other violence. Many of the mysteries, however, are used as decoys or "MacGuffins" that serve the films' themes and the psychological examinations of their characters. Hitchcock's films also borrow many themes from psychoanalysis and sometimes feature strong sexual overtones. He became a highly visible public figure through interviews, movie trailers, cameo appearances in his own films, and the ten years in which he hosted the television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In 1978, film critic John Russell Taylor described Hitchcock as "the most universally recognizable person in the world", and "a straightforward middle-class Englishman who just happened to be an artistic genius."

County Clare
County Clare (Irish: Contae an Chláir) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the Mid-West Region and is also part of the province of Munster. Clare County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county is 117,196 according to the 2011 census.
Geography and political subdivisions
Clare is north-west of the River Shannon covering a total area of 3,400 square kilometres (1,300 sq mi). Clare is the 7th largest of Ireland's 32 traditional counties in area and the 19th largest in terms of population. It is bordered by two counties in Munster and one county in Connacht: County Limerick to the south, County Tipperary to the east and County Galway to the north. Clare's nickname is the Banner County.
Baronies, parishes and townlands
The county is divided into the baronies of Bunratty Lower, Bunratty Upper, Burren, Clonderalaw, Corcomroe, Ibrickan, Inchiquin, Islands, Moyarta, Tulla Lower and Tulla Upper. These in turn are divided into civil parishes, which are divided into townlands. These divisions are cadastral, defining land boundaries and ownership, rather than administrative.

Got Talent
Got Talent is a talent show television format conceived and owned by Simon Cowell's SYCOtv company. A pilot was made in the United Kingdom in 2005, hosted by Paul O'Grady, but after O'Grady's split with ITV, the series was postponed, resulting in America's Got Talent – the first full series of the format.
It has spawned spin-offs in over 58 countries (as of April 2014), in what is now referred to as the Got Talent format, similar to that described by FremantleMedia of the Idol and The X Factor formats. In April 2014, the format was named the world's most successful reality TV format ever by the Guinness World Records.
History
Got Talent was an invention by The X Factor creator Simon Cowell, with comedian and talk show host Paul O'Grady producing a pilot for ITV in 2005 under the provisional title Paul O'Grady's Got Talent. O'Grady left the network after disputes with ITV, resulting in Cowell moving the concept to the United States while he and ITV searched for a new show host.
Due to these issues, the Got Talent franchise ended up debuting first as America's Got Talent on NBC on 21 June 2006, with judges David Hasselhoff, Brandy Norwood, and Piers Morgan. The show's original series was hosted by Regis Philbin. In 2016, the judging panel consisted of Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Melanie Brown, and Simon Cowell, and hosted by Nick Cannon, who has been the presenter since 2009. The grand prize on America's Got Talent is $1 million, and, since season 3, a chance to headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip. America's Got Talent proved extremely successful for NBC, pulling in high ratings in both total viewers and the younger 18-49 demographic. The show's initial success in America is credited with the eventual launch of the British series, and the overall global launch of the Got Talent franchise.

America's Got Talent
America's Got Talent (sometimes abbreviated as AGT) is an American reality television series on the NBC television network, and part of the global British Got Talent franchise. It is a talent show that features singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers of all ages competing for the advertised top prize of one million dollars. The show debuted in June 2006 for the summer television season. From season three (2008) onwards, the prize includes the one million dollars, payable in a financial annuity over 40 years, and a chance to headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip. Among its significant features is that it gives an opportunity to talented amateurs or unknown performers, with the results decided by an audience vote. The format is a popular one and has often been reworked for television in the United States and the United Kingdom.
This incarnation was created by Simon Cowell, and was originally due to be a 2005 British series called Paul O'Grady's Got Talent but was postponed due to O'Grady's acrimonious split with broadcaster ITV (later launching as Britain's Got Talent in 2007). As such, the American version became the first full series of the franchise.

This Clare was a place of some importance as early as the 12th Century - thus predating the arrival of the de Clare family to County Clare.
Why is County Clare often called 'The Banner County'?
The custom of carrying banners goes back a long way in County Clare. There is little doubt but that the Dal gCais carried banners at the battle of Clontarf in 1014 or that the Clare Dragoons carried banners at Fontenoy in 1745 and in the many battles fought by the Clare Regiments on the continent during the eighteenth century. However, the name 'the banner county' would appear to be of far more recent origin. In the last century as population of the county became more politicized the custom of carrying banners to political meetings became widespread. Thus many banners welcomed Daniel O'Connell at the Clare election of 1828 and the freeholders of the county marched behind banners to the Ennis courthouse to cast their votes for O'Connell on that occasion.
In Ennis most trade guilds had their own banners: bakers, butchers, brogue makers, coopers, nailers, dyers, masons, harness makers, cartwrights, stone cutters etc. all competed to produce the most handsome of banners. At the inaugeration of the O'Connell monument in Ennis in 1865 thirteen different guilds carried banners, each representing the attributes of their particular trade. That this represented a long tradition in the town is not in doubt since, on that occasion, the brogue makers' guild carried a flag that had first been unfurled in 1726.
My own great grandfather, Brian Daly, was the custodian of the Ennis coopers' banner and parts of the banner are still retained by the family. The coopers' banner was not of the two pole variety that one usually sees today but was carried on a long single pole, topped by a small barrel; the banner itself hung down like a picture from a horizontal staff stretched across the top of the pole. I can recall as a child seeing the banner which was then much injured by time; it was a rusted red colour and carried the inscription 'Hearts of Oak'. This banner along with many others were carried along the streets to greet the various dignitaries that visited the town in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Politicians like Parnell and de Valera were greeted by hosts of banners. It is easy to see then in the political excitement of the times how the county acquired the name 'the banner county'. The reason the name stuck with Clare, I would suggest, was that custom of greeting politicians with banners, particularly at election time, survived longer in Clare than in other counties. The Parnellite and de Valera eras coincided with the rise of the GAA and the name soon transferred to the county's hurling and football teams.

So I went to the TMI mall tour in Philly to meet the author and cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and it was AMAZING! And let me explain the whole "Clarybelle" thing:) I was wearing the Isabelle dress and necklace with fishnets and heeled boots but I have bright red SUPER curly hair like Clary:) people kept asking to take pictures of or get a picture with me and complimenting me all day and it was so sweet!

The film was originally to be released under the same title as the novel "Enter Sir John" but this was changed to the simpler "Murder!" during shooting. A number of changes were made from the book including the alteration of the names of the two principal characters. The portrayal of the character Sir John Mernier was loosely based on that of the actor Gerald du Maurier who was a friend of Hitchcock. The shady Carl Verloc runs a cinema with his wife Sylvia and their little brother Steve in London's East End. Business is bad, the little family has constantly worries about money. Without the knowledge of the wife, Verloc earns extra money for acts of sabotage on behalf of a secret organization. Scotland Yard has already suspected him. A policeman has been working undercover in a grocery store in the neighbourhood observing Verloc.
A sabotage to the London power grid, initiated by Verloc, does not have the desired effect. So he is forced to make an even worse attack, blood has to flow! Verloc is ordered to place a bomb in a train station locker. He gets the bomb, but he did not want to deposit it in the locker himself. He sends the small Steve with the bomb package and urges him to deliver it before a certain time. Steve of course has no idea what he carries through London and is wasting time. In a tram the bomb goes off and kills many people, including the boy. When Mrs. Sylvia Verloc hears about the death of her brother and realizes, that her husband is to blame, she stabs him with a kitchen knife .....
When released, the film was indeed well received by the critics, but not by the audience. For those times, the action was very cynical and brutal and especially the death of little Steve resented the audience. Hitchcock took this criticism very serious and in took about thirty years, when again a child dies in one of his films, in "The Birds". Hitchcock had other problems with this film as well. His leading actress Sylvia Sidney had indeed been in some movies made in Hollywood, but as a trained stage actress, the visual storytelling style of Hitchcock was difficult for her. Her strength was the clear dialogue, not the facial expressions. But significantly were again two typical Hitchcockian elements. The subtile tension (suspense), particularly in the scene before the bomb blast, and the question of guilt and the guilty is brought out clearly by Hitchcock. So finally the husband murderer Sylvia Verloc, the "heroine" of the film, was not held responsable for the committed murder. The question remains: Is she morally guilty ?

Based on an 1896 romantic novel The Manxman by Hall Caine, the director began work on the film just two weeks after the birth of his daughter, Patricia Hitchcock. This was the last silent film Hitchcock directed before he made the transition to sound film with his next film Blackmail. The Manxman was filmed almost entirely in the small fishing village of Polperro in Cornwall.
The film tells the story of two childhood friends, a poor fisherman, Pete Quilliam (Carl Brisson), and a lawyer, Philip Christian (Malcolm Keen). Pete is in love with Kate (Anny Ondra), but when her father, Old Caesar (Randie Ayrton), refuses to consent to their marriage, Pete sets off for Africa to make his fortune, asking Philip to take care of Kate until he returns. In his absence, Kate and Philip fall in love. When news reaches them that Pete was killed, they begin planning their lives together, as Philip prepares to assume the position of Deemster, the island's chief magistrate. The news is false however, and Pete returns to the island a wealthy man. Old Caesar agrees to let Kate marry him, and neither she nor Philip have it in them to break Pete's heart. As the wedding party proceeds in an old mill, Old Caesar sternly warns the newlyweds to remember how serious the vows of marriage are.
Kate is still in love with Philip. Shortly after a daughter is born, she decides to leave Pete, leaving him both the child and a note saying that she loves another man. However, Philip is about to become the Deemster and is unwilling to give up his career for her. Frustrated, she returns to Pete to take the baby, telling him that he is not the father, but he refuses to believe her or hand the child over. Distraught, Kate leaves and attempts to commit suicide by throwing herself off the quay, a crime on the Isle of Man. Kate is brought to trial on the first day that Philip serves as Deemster. He is reluctant to sentence her, and when Pete appears in the courtroom to plead for his wife, he agrees to hand her over to him. Kate refuses to go, and Old Caesar, who is watching, gets up and condemns Philip for being the "other man". Philip admits this and leaves the court. In the final scene, Philip and Kate prepare to leave the Isle of Man and come to Pete's house to pick up the baby. In a shot reminiscent of the theater, Kate picks up the child, while Philip and Pete stand at opposite ends of the room. Coming into the debate, Wallace suggested that he wanted the candidates to fact-check each other, but several times throughout the debate he interjected himself to challenge the candidates’ claims or to compel them to stay on topic. In particular, he pressed Trump on the sexual assault allegations, the Trump Foundation, and his comments that the election is rigged. Such an approach felt necessary in light of previous debate answers from Trump that strayed from the truth—although he did not hesitate to question Clinton either.

One of the big stories of these debates has been stamina, and not in the way that Trump wanted when he tried to raise concerns about Clinton's age and health. It turns out that the 70-year-old Trump is the one who struggled repeatedly to stay poised for the full 90 minutes of a presidential debate.
Tonight the candidates debated civilly and even substantively for the first 30 minutes or so, and then Trump, as in the first debate, seemed to lose his discipline and composure. He began interrupting Clinton frequently, whispering "wrong" into the microphone, and digressing into non-sequiturs. By the end, he was suggesting he would challenge the results of the election if he lost and giving answers about topics like Syria that were simply incoherent. Clinton spent days preparing for the gauntlet of a 90-minute debate, and it showed.

When I was growing up, my parents often said to me, of grown-up life, that "it's all high school." I've thought this many, many times since high school—but maybe especially this year.

The Most Irresponsible Thing Ever Said in a Presidential Debate
As far as I’m concerned, Donald Trump’s remarks about the election results—his statement that he will keep us “in suspense” about whether he will accept the results on November 8–is the most irresponsible thing ever uttered during a presidential debate in my lifetime. The moment that passed his lips, any substantive evaluation of whether he won or lost the debate was decided: he lost by showing himself unfit for the massive responsibility of the presidency. Shame on him.
In his closing statement, Trump says: "When I started this campaign, I started it very strongly: "Make America Great Again," we're going to make America great again." He goes on to add: "We cannot take four more years of Barack Obama and that's what you get with her."

May 12th, 2015 - Words from Jesus to Sister Clare
Oh, my goodness, where do I start? Tonight the Lord took me to Heaven, and our tour was very much like the narratives from Chronicles of the Bride.
It all began very innocently, as I saw the Lord dancing with me in a rather busy area. I was wondering, ‘What is all this activity about?’
Well, I noticed His collar was unbuttoned and His tuxedo tie was loose around His neck. After a few more moments I saw that His sleeves were rolled up and wondered why in the world would His sleeves be rolled up? I think He really delights in surprising me and making me guess about what He's up to. Well, then I saw He was wearing a kitchen apron.
Just then an angel without wings passed by with something that looked like a roasted chicken, hot and steaming on a platter. I get it! He's helping to prepare the wedding supper!
Well, we danced a bit more and I just adored and worshipped Him to the music. At times He sang over me and spoke encouraging words. After a brief while a helicopter landed nearby and the Lord took me by the arm and helped me climb aboard. Before I knew it, we were airborne and headed to a large blimp shaped ship that was hovering in the sky. The helicopter flew into a landing area in the back of the blimp and we jumped out.
Then I saw the plim-like ship begin to move slowly and then totally disappear into space. In the next scene the Lord and I were on a beach beside the ocean. I was wearing pedal pushers (capris) and a blouse, the Lord was also wearing pedal pushers and a white shirt that hung loose and was very casual and comfortable. We were on our Honeymoon! WOW!
Very high, dark, lava rock cliffs surrounded the cove we were walking in. The waves were coming in rather forcefully, but as soon as we got near the water, they melted down into placid lapping waves as if to greet us and make our walk more quiet and calm. But not before the waves tossed up a brilliant pink conch shell right at my feet.
The Lord looked at me smiling, "Pick it up." As I did, pearls began to roll out from inside, then emeralds and rubies all of a deep color and skillfully faceted, revealing their clarity and deep colors. I was delighted and tossed them up in the air...then I thought to myself, 'I should save these and share them with others.' and as I thought that, they all picked themselves up off the sand and gathered again into the conch.
He embraced me and danced with me right there on the beach and I thought to myself, ‘This is the most romantic moment of my life, it's picture perfect!’

May 12th, 2015 - Words from Jesus to Sister Clare
Oh, my goodness, where do I start? Tonight the Lord took me to Heaven, and our tour was very much like the narratives from Chronicles of the Bride.
It all began very innocently, as I saw the Lord dancing with me in a rather busy area. I was wondering, ‘What is all this activity about?’
Well, I noticed His collar was unbuttoned and His tuxedo tie was loose around His neck. After a few more moments I saw that His sleeves were rolled up and wondered why in the world would His sleeves be rolled up? I think He really delights in surprising me and making me guess about what He's up to. Well, then I saw He was wearing a kitchen apron.
Just then an angel without wings passed by with something that looked like a roasted chicken, hot and steaming on a platter. I get it! He's helping to prepare the wedding supper!
Well, we danced a bit more and I just adored and worshipped Him to the music. At times He sang over me and spoke encouraging words. After a brief while a helicopter landed nearby and the Lord took me by the arm and helped me climb aboard. Before I knew it, we were airborne and headed to a large blimp shaped ship that was hovering in the sky. The helicopter flew into a landing area in the back of the blimp and we jumped out.
Then I saw the plim-like ship begin to move slowly and then totally disappear into space. In the next scene the Lord and I were on a beach beside the ocean. I was wearing pedal pushers (capris) and a blouse, the Lord was also wearing pedal pushers and a white shirt that hung loose and was very casual and comfortable. We were on our Honeymoon! WOW!
Very high, dark, lava rock cliffs surrounded the cove we were walking in. The waves were coming in rather forcefully, but as soon as we got near the water, they melted down into placid lapping waves as if to greet us and make our walk more quiet and calm. But not before the waves tossed up a brilliant pink conch shell right at my feet.
The Lord looked at me smiling, "Pick it up." As I did, pearls began to roll out from inside, then emeralds and rubies all of a deep color and skillfully faceted, revealing their clarity and deep colors. I was delighted and tossed them up in the air...then I thought to myself, 'I should save these and share them with others.' and as I thought that, they all picked themselves up off the sand and gathered again into the conch.
He embraced me and danced with me right there on the beach and I thought to myself, ‘This is the most romantic moment of my life, it's picture perfect!’

Me meeting Cassandra Clare, Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell
So I went to the TMI mall tour in Philly to meet the author and cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and it was AMAZING! And let me explain the whole "Clarybelle" thing:) I was wearing the Isabelle dress and necklace with fishnets and heeled boots but I have bright red SUPER curly hair like Clary:) people kept asking to take pictures of or get a picture with me and complimenting me all day and it was so sweet!

It is often said that County Clare is named after the de Clares. However this is not the origin, rather, the name comes from the Irish word 'Clár', meaning a board or plank. A board was placed across the river Fergus outside Ennis, at a place which was to become known as Clare, (now Clarecastle town). This Clare was a place of some importance as early as the 12th Century - thus predating the arrival of the de Clare family to County Clare.
Why is County Clare often called 'The Banner County'?
The custom of carrying banners goes back a long way in County Clare. There is little doubt but that the Dal gCais carried banners at the battle of Clontarf in 1014 or that the Clare Dragoons carried banners at Fontenoy in 1745 and in the many battles fought by the Clare Regiments on the continent during the eighteenth century. However, the name 'the banner county' would appear to be of far more recent origin. In the last century as population of the county became more politicized the custom of carrying banners to political meetings became widespread. Thus many banners welcomed Daniel O'Connell at the Clare election of 1828 and the freeholders of the county marched behind banners to the Ennis courthouse to cast their votes for O'Connell on that occasion.
In Ennis most trade guilds had their own banners: bakers, butchers, brogue makers, coopers, nailers, dyers, masons, harness makers, cartwrights, stone cutters etc. all competed to produce the most handsome of banners. At the inaugeration of the O'Connell monument in Ennis in 1865 thirteen different guilds carried banners, each representing the attributes of their particular trade. That this represented a long tradition in the town is not in doubt since, on that occasion, the brogue makers' guild carried a flag that had first been unfurled in 1726.
My own great grandfather, Brian Daly, was the custodian of the Ennis coopers' banner and parts of the banner are still retained by the family. The coopers' banner was not of the two pole variety that one usually sees today but was carried on a long single pole, topped by a small barrel; the banner itself hung down like a picture from a horizontal staff stretched across the top of the pole. I can recall as a child seeing the banner which was then much injured by time; it was a rusted red colour and carried the inscription 'Hearts of Oak'. This banner along with many others were carried along the streets to greet the various dignitaries that visited the town in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Politicians like Parnell and de Valera were greeted by hosts of banners. It is easy to see then in the political excitement of the times how the county acquired the name 'the banner county'. The reason the name stuck with Clare, I would suggest, was that custom of greeting politicians with banners, particularly at election time, survived longer in Clare than in other counties. The Parnellite and de Valera eras coincided with the rise of the GAA and the name soon transferred to the county's hurling and football teams.

Many feared that her death would spark insurrection, led perhaps by Puritans, perhaps by Catholics, possibly with the support of Spain. As it became clear that she was dying, Elizabeth's chief minister, Sir Robert Cecil, put into action his covert strategy to secure the succession of King James the Sixth of Scotland.What follows is a story of plots, plague and high politics, as a foreign monarch brought a thoroughly Continental approach to Kingship to the English throne. James's accession was widely welcomed, but his relationship with Cecil was initially tense, and his long procession south from Edinburgh attracted both celebration and criticism. His treatise on Kingship, published on his succession, became a bestseller in London - at least until an outbreak of plague, which also drove him from the capital not long after he arrived. His coronation was hurried through to circumvent plots against him, but his triumphal entry into London had to be delayed until a year after Elizabeth's death. In this episode, our hosts share their secrets on what they do to cultivate their creativity. What is our creative process? We start with sharing the coolest projects we worked on and the project that brought out the best in our creativity. Ross used Pinterest to connect with foodie bloggers to promote a new candy in Canada. Julia built a video-greeting card with a short marketing pitch from the company's CEO. Clare, being too humble, decided to share a cool project she was privy to at a previous job - it involves a recipe book. Kristine built a mobile game to teach young drivers about the dangers of distracted driving. Then we talk about the tools we use in our creative process.
