Alan Pardew's reaction after Newcastle beat Bolton 2.0.
Hatem Ben Arfa scored a stunning solo goal as Newcastle broke Bolton's resistance to join Tottenham at the heady height of fourth place with a 2-0 win. The Magpies were barely worthy of a fifth successive win but Ben Arfa surged from his own half (73) to elevate a turgid affair, before Papiss Cisse scored his 10th goal in nine games.

Newcastle 3-1 West Brom | Alan Pardew Praises Newcastle Victory
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew praised his side for a "champagne" display in their 3-1 victory at West Brom. Forwards Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa were particularly influential as the Magpies moved level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea. "Today it was champagne stuff," Pardew told BBC Sport. "Demba, Papiss and Ben Arfa are a real front three. "We've been phenomenal all year, the players have worked so hard and deserve all the plaudits they get." Newcastle's recent victory over Norwich was their first win in five matches, and the improvement continued at West Brom. Cisse put them in front on six minutes from Ben Arfa's cross before Ben Arfa doubled the lead with a superb team goal. It was 3-0 on 34 minutes when Ben Arfa and Ba combined to set up Cisse for his second as the Magpies took total control. A defensive mix-up allowed substitute Shane Long to pull one back, but Newcastle held on and could have scored more. "First half, we played some really fantastic stuff," said Pardew. "I said before the game that at the training ground there was a new buoyancy after the win against Norwich. "We had chances to get the fourth goal, we knew that would seal it and that was my half-time message. But we managed to see it out. "This is a tough place to come and they've won with something to spare." Pardew replaced Chris Hughton as Newcastle boss in December 2010 and guided the club to 12th last season. Chelsea 0-2 Newcastle United - Alan Pardew Interview - 2nd May 2012
Alan Pardew hailed Papiss Cisse's performance after Newcastle's 15th clean sheet of the season. Pardew: Cisse is special Papiss Cisse produced a brilliant brace to keep alive Newcastle's hopes of finishing fourth with a 2-0 win at Chelsea. The Senegal striker stunned Stamford Bridge inside 20 minutes when he collected a pass from Davide Santon, flicking it up with his right foot and blasting the ball past Petr Cech with his left. But that was nothing compared to what he had in store for the Chelsea keeper with his second. Newcastle appeared to be playing the game out during stoppage time when, out on the left flank, Cisse cut across a ball with his right foot and sent a swerving shot flying over Cech and into the net. In between the two strikes, Chelsea pushed and probed for an equaliser, with Santon clearing off the line from John Terry, but the home side lacked Cisse's spectacular cutting edge. And the win keeps Alan Pardew's side level on points with fourth-place Tottenham with two games to play. Chelsea are now four points behind and will surely need to beat Bayern Munich on May 19 if they are to play Champions League football next season. Cisse's second goal came in 10 minutes of second-half stoppage-time added for a sickening head injury to Cheik Tiote, the only sour note for the visitors after an impressive night's work. It all looked so bright for Chelsea early on. Fernando Torres looked in the mood to add to his first Blues hat-trick, although this time he failed ...

Liverpool v Newcastle preview - Alan Pardew on Ba going to African nations | Premier League 2011
Liverpool v Newcastle preview - Alan Pardew on Ba going to African nations | Premier League 2011
Newcastle will focus on buying a defender rather than a striker following confirmation that Modibo Maiga's move to Tyneside has collapsed. The Sochaux forward, 24, was set for a £6m transfer in January. But the deal broke down because of medical concerns over one of the Mali international's knees. "I don't think we will be bringing a striker in after the collapse of Maiga, which we had put a lot of work into," said boss Alan Pardew. Newcastle will lose 14-goal Demba Ba, who plays for Senegal, to Africa Cup of Nations duty in the coming weeks. It will leave the Magpies with Leon Best, Shola and Sammy Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands as the only strikers in the first-team squad. But Pardew, whose side lie seventh in the Premier League table after a promising start to the season, added: "As far as we are concerned, we will go with what we have got. "You have to pay over the odds in this window - and you have to accept that if you are going to invest in this window. We won't [do that] in terms of a striker." Pardew added that the chance of resurrecting the Maiga deal at some point in the future was extremely unlikely. "The player is probably more disappointed than anybody else, but these things happen and we will have to do a lot of work now between now and the summer to locate another striker," he said. In the meantime, Pardew will concentrate on trying to bring in a defender after centre-half Steven Taylor's season was ended prematurely by an Achilles injury. "We are looking at ...
