Negativland - KPIX News
Negativland - KPIX News
For a video class, I took the video of the KPIX News story on Negativland and remixed it in what I hope comes close to Negativland's own style. I got an A on the project, lets hope it's recieved as well on YouTube. All the footage and audio is from the origonal (except for the clip of "Christianity Is Stupid") The background music is "Il piccolo principe ha sparato alla volpe" - 3Sacchetti www.wmrecordings.com The wuality is pretty low, I'm genna work on getting a higher quality version up here. Hope you like it.

KPIX-TV "Evening Magazine" 10th Anniversary - 1986
in 1976, KPIX-TV in San Francisco was the first Group W station to air the locally produced "Evening Magazine." The show soon spread to the four other Westinghouse stations. The program's success prompted Group W to franchise the "Evening" concept to dozens of stations around the country where it was titled "PM Magazine." This clip is an excerpt from the KPIX's 10th anniversary special. All rights are acknowledged.

Melanotan I (afamelanotide) report on KPIX CBS5 Feb. 17, 2009
Melanotan I (afamelanotide) report on KPIX CBS5 Feb. 17, 2009
Melanotan I (afamelanotide) and Melanotan II Healthwatch report by Dr. Kim Mulvilhill of San Francisco's KPIX CBS 5. Dr. Kim discusses what the melanotan peptides are and what they do. A brief explanation from Dr. Robert Dorr explains how melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a hormone that tells "our skin cells to make themselves darker". Dr. Kim explains that an Australian biotech company [Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals] is developing the drug for protection against and perhaps prevention of a series of serious skin disorders. She also discusses an online community of melanotan peptide users at the website Melanotan.org who use both melanotan I and the related drug melanotan II (which is known for it's effects against sexual dysfunction). She finishes the report with a warning from dermatologist Dr. Seth Matarasso of UCSF about the unknown long term effects of any drug affecting the endocrine system. Dr. Kim finishes the report in explaining that melanotan I (afamelanotide) is experimental and human trials are still underway. More info: www.clinuvel.com en.wikipedia.org melanotan.org

Karuna Jaggar speaks about Aromasin on KPIX
Karuna Jaggar speaks about Aromasin on KPIX
Breast Cancer Action (BCAction) called for caution about the implications of a recently published study exploring the use of the drug Aromasin (exemestane), an aromatase inhibitor (AI), in healthy postmenopausal women to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer. The study, led by Canada's NCIC Clinical Trials Group, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's conference on June 4, 2011 and financed in part by the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, examined the use of an aromatase inhibitor for reducing women's risk of breast cancer. The study showed that women taking Aromasin developed breast cancer at a lower rate than those taking the placebo. BCAction expressed concern about the tendency to expand approved breast cancer treatment drugs into broader markets, including prevention, without the necessary rigor to determine which women would actually benefit from the drug. In this study, women were considered at high risk of developing breast cancer if they had identified risk factors or were at least 60 years old. "When exploring 'preventive' treatment for breast cancer in healthy women, the bar needs to be especially high," BCAction Executive Director Karuna R. Jaggar said. "Without a rigorous definition of "high risk", this study opens the door to exposing thousands and thousands of healthy women who will never get breast cancer to the side effects of a powerful drug." Specifically, BCAction expressed concern about this study's broad categorization of women as ...
