Trinidad and Tobago 
i/ˈtrɪnᵻˌdæd ənd toʊˈbeɪɡoʊ/, officially the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is a twin island country situated off the northern edge of South America mainland, lying 11 kilometres (6 mi) just off the coast of northeastern Venezuela and 130 kilometres (81 mi) south of Grenada. Bordering the Caribbean to the north, it shares maritime boundaries with other nations including Barbados to the northeast, Grenada to the northwest, Guyana to the southeast, and Venezuela to the south and west. The country covers an area of 5,128 square kilometres (1,980 sq mi) and consists of two main islands, Trinidad and Tobago, with numerous smaller landforms. The two main islands are divided into nine regions, and one ward. Sangre Grande is the largest of the country's nine regions, comprising about 18% of the total area and 10% of the total population of the country. Trinidad and Tobago lies outside of the hurricane belt.

Trinidad and Tobago (Commonwealth realm)
The Trinidad and Tobago was a Commonwealth realm between 31 August 1962 and 1 August 1976, before it became a republic.
When British rule ended, in 1962, the Trinidad and Tobago Independence Act 1962 transformed the British Crown Colony of Trinidad and Tobago into an independent sovereign state, sharing its sovereign, Elizabeth II, with the other Commonwealth realms. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of Trinidad and Tobago.
The following governors-generals held office in Trinidad and Tobago during the Commonwealth realm period:
Eric Williams held office as prime minister (and head of government) of the Trinidad and Tobago during this period.
Queen Elizabeth II visited Trinidad and Tobago in her capacity of Queen of Trinidad and Tobago in February 1966.
Following the abolition of the monarchy and the promulgation of a republic on 1 August 1976, the last governor-general, Sir Ellis Clarke, became the first President of Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago literature
Trinidad and Tobago literature has its roots in oral storytelling among African slaves, the European literary roots of the French creoles and in the religious and folk tales of the Indian indentured immigrants. It blossomed in the 20th century with the writings of C.L.R. James, V.S. Naipaul and Saint Lucian-born Derek Walcott as part of the growth of West Indian literature.
Origins
One of the earliest works in the Anglophone Caribbean literature was Jean-Baptiste Philippe's 1824 work, Free Mulatto.Michel Maxwell Philip's 1854 work, Emmanuel Appadocca: A Tale of the Boucaneers, is considered the country's first novel.

Tobago
Tobago /təˈbeɪɡoʊ/ is an autonomous island within the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It is located northeast of the mainland of Trinidad and southeast of the Caribbean country of Grenada. The island lies outside the hurricane belt. According to the earliest English-language source cited in the Oxford English Dictionary, Tobago bore a name that has become the English word tobacco. The national bird of Tobago is the cocrico.
Population
The population was 62,219 at the 2011 census. The capital, Scarborough, has a population of about 25,550. While Trinidad is multiethnic, Tobago's population is primarily of African descent, although with a growing proportion of Trinidadians of East Indian descent and Europeans. Between 2000 and 2011, the population of Tobago grew by 12.55 percent, making it one of the fastest-growing areas of Trinidad and Tobago.
History
Christopher Columbus first sighted Tobago in 1498. Subsequently, several powers fought over possession of the island.
The original Island Carib population had to defend the island against other Amerindian tribes. Then, during the late 1500s and early 1600s, the natives defended it from European colonists, for instance in 1654 from the Courlanders, who colonised the island intermittently between 1637 and 1690. Over the years, the Dutch, English, Spanish, Swedish, Curonians (Duchy of Courland) and French transformed Tobago into a battle zone and the island changed hands 33 times, the most in Caribbean history, and often name, before the Treaty of Paris ceded it to the British in 1814.

In this video I take you on an adventure through the natural paradise of Tobago. The island is part of the country of Trinidad and Tobago, named after the two islands. Trinidad is busy, industrial, built-up and even a bit dangerous due to the amount of crime. Tobago, on the other hand, is an oasis of peace, where people still mainly live from fishing and now a small amount of tourism. The country is one big natural paradise. In this video I show you why Tobago is a surprisingly beautiful and unique destination, which is wrongly not often mentioned on lists of beautiful Caribbean islands. It is simply even more unknown and therefore so untouched and pure.
I visit Tobago with my wife and three year old son, on an island hopping adventure like no other through the Caribbean. This year we picked up the route in Martinique and from there we took the boat to Saint Lucia. From there we flew a small plane over the azure waters to Tobago. We sleep in a tree house between the jungle and the beach, see local fishermen at work and enjoy all the plants and animals all around us. From Castara we cross the rainforest to Argyle Falls, the most beautiful waterfall. We also visit Crown Point and Pigeon Point to the west and the most beautiful pristine beach at Englishman's Bay.
This year we are traveling all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique and Saint Lucia, Tobago is our sixth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in the Caribbean and then to many more beautiful destinations! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - Welcome to Port of Spain, the Capital of Trinidad and Tobago islands in the Caribbean! I’m so excited to finally be here. So many of you have written to me over the years inviting me to visit for the amazing food and culture, so it’s really an honor to finally be here and to explore the incredible food. Let’s get started eating, we’re jumping straight into a massive 20 hour day of eating local street food!

And here’s everything we did in the video, and all the food we ate:
Central Market - We started off today at the Central Market in Port of Spain, bright and early in the morning before 7 am. And with Baidawi and David, who go to the market every weekend to do their shopping and have breakfast, we were in the right hands. After exploring the market and the amazing produce and ingredients that go into food in Trinidad and Tobago we then headed to the food court for some local fish broth and cow heel soup.
EatAhFood - Baidawi makes fantastic food videos, especially recipes, and so we bought ingredients and headed back to his house to cook Callaloo, an Afro Caribbean food of simmered down taro leaves and pumpkin and coconut milk. It was so good!
Roti - One of the greatest of all Trinidadian foods is roti - different from anywhere else. The rotis are huge and fresh and then stuffed with pumpkin, potato, and curry of your choice. An afternoon bulging roti with Zaak, was absolutely delicious.
Queens Park Savannah - Port of Spain - To continue on with this street food tour in Trinidad and Tobago, we went to Queens Park Savannah for a coconut and then continued on to the evening street food market to sample a bunch of different local foods - everything from doubles to pholourie and roast fish.
Yousef Gyro (https://goo.gl/maps/vJkVQL9S5zMSSnGw5) - Trinidad and Tobago is so diverse and there’s even a local Middle Eastern population including Yousef Gyro, owned by descendants of Syrian immigrants. They make all sorts of wraps and gyros and combinations you won’t find anywhere else. This is the ultimate late night food in Trinidad!
Dass Doubles Factory (https://goo.gl/maps/X6yvzWiQi9WscWdc6) - We did have a quick doubles at the street food night market, but we went to Dass Doubles Factory for the real deal late night doubles. They made the barras fresh and load them up with heavy peppa sauce and delicious curry chickpeas.
Hadco Phase II Pan Groove Orchestra Pan Yard (https://www.instagram.com/hadcophase2pangroove/) - Finally to complete this day we were treated to a panyard lime to see the ultimate instrument of Trinidad and Tobago - steel pan! It was so cool to see and an amazing way to wrap up this ultimate street food tour - and they have delicious food!

Trinidad and Tobago - “happiest� and second wealthiest county in the Caribbean. It lies closer to Venezuela and south of Grenada.
Capital is Port of Spain, located on the Gulf of Paria,
San Fernando, is the industrial capital and largest city

Geography
Geologically Trinidad and Tobago is an extension of the South America; although some believe, it is part of the Lesser Antilles archipelagos while few others argue it is on its own archipelagos.
Three relatively low mountain ranges cross Trinidad from east to west. Heavily forested Northern Range rises into two peaks highest one is El Cerro del Aripo at 940 meters and El Tucuche is little shorer at 936 meters.
The low-lying range Central Range extends diagonally across the island with swampy areas rising to rolling hills. The Southern Range is a broken line of hills extends along the southern coast.
The Caroni Plain, a muddy sediment, extends southward, between Northern and Central Range.
There are many rivers and streams, the most significant are the 50 km long Ortoire River that flow eastward into the Atlantic. It is glow in the dark, with the eerie blue bioluminescence.
Trinidad has a one of a kind lake, it ls not your average lake with clear blue water; The Pitch Lake is pitch black, a largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world, estimated to contain 10 million tons asphalt, covers about 100 acres. Pitch Lake is also a popular tourist attraction
Most of the soils of Trinidad are fertile, with the exception of the sandy and unstable terrain found in the southern part of the island.
History
Trinidad and Tobago was originally inhabited by peace-loving Igneri, a part of Arawak Indians over 7,000 years ago, making it the earliest settled part of the Caribbean. Several waves of migration took place and the fierce Caribs were living in the islands when
Christopher Columbus set his eyes on them in 1498, named it Trinidad after the three mountain peaks at its southeast corner and Tavaco after a local long-stemmed tobacco pipe, Natives resisted European settlement but they couldn’t win with modern weponary and very determined European men.
Spain colonized Trinidad 1592.
1620-40s, with the Dutch, English and Latvia’s all attempting to colonies Tobago in the early 17th century, The Dutch settle on Tobago by 1630.
The French capture Tobago by 1781, transformed it into a sugar-producing colony. British captures Trinidad in 1797 and formalized by the Treaty of Amiens in 1802.
As the sugar price went down, Cacao took over, in the early 19th century, farmers from South American were strongly encouraged to move to Trinidad to cultivate cacao.
Slavery abolished in 1834; decades after that, Indians were brought to work on sugar plantations.
Trinidad and Tobago were administratively combined as a single British colony in 1889.
Trinidad and Tobago joins the British West Indies Federation in 1958, but a year later established an internal self-government with Williams as prime minister.
On Aug. 31, 1962, formally became an independent state and choose to remain a member of the Commonwealth with Elizabeth II as the queen.
1976 - Trinidad and Tobago becomes a republic within the Commonwealth with Ellis Clarke, as president, a ceremonial roll and Eric Williams as prime minister

In this video I take you on an adventure through the natural paradise of Tobago. The island is part of the country of Trinidad and Tobago, named after the two islands. Trinidad is busy, industrial, built-up and even a bit dangerous due to the amount of crime. Tobago, on the other hand, is an oasis of peace, where people still mainly live from fishing and now a small amount of tourism. The country is one big natural paradise. In this video I show you why Tobago is a surprisingly beautiful and unique destination, which is wrongly not often mentioned on lists of beautiful Caribbean islands. It is simply even more unknown and therefore so untouched and pure.
I visit Tobago with my wife and three year old son, on an island hopping adventure like no other through the Caribbean. This year we picked up the route in Martinique and from there we took the boat to Saint Lucia. From there we flew a small plane over the azure waters to Tobago. We sleep in a tree house between the jungle and the beach, see local fishermen at work and enjoy all the plants and animals all around us. From Castara we cross the rainforest to Argyle Falls, the most beautiful waterfall. We also visit Crown Point and Pigeon Point to the west and the most beautiful pristine beach at Englishman's Bay.
This year we are traveling all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique and Saint Lucia, Tobago is our sixth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in the Caribbean and then to many more beautiful destinations! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - Welcome to Port of Spain, the Capital of Trinidad and Tobago islands in the Caribbean! I’m so excited to finally be here. So many of you have written to me over the years inviting me to visit for the amazing food and culture, so it’s really an honor to finally be here and to explore the incredible food. Let’s get started eating, we’re jumping straight into a massive 20 hour day of eating local street food!

And here’s everything we did in the video, and all the food we ate:
Central Market - We started off today at the Central Market in Port of Spain, bright and early in the morning before 7 am. And with Baidawi and David, who go to the market every weekend to do their shopping and have breakfast, we were in the right hands. After exploring the market and the amazing produce and ingredients that go into food in Trinidad and Tobago we then headed to the food court for some local fish broth and cow heel soup.
EatAhFood - Baidawi makes fantastic food videos, especially recipes, and so we bought ingredients and headed back to his house to cook Callaloo, an Afro Caribbean food of simmered down taro leaves and pumpkin and coconut milk. It was so good!
Roti - One of the greatest of all Trinidadian foods is roti - different from anywhere else. The rotis are huge and fresh and then stuffed with pumpkin, potato, and curry of your choice. An afternoon bulging roti with Zaak, was absolutely delicious.
Queens Park Savannah - Port of Spain - To continue on with this street food tour in Trinidad and Tobago, we went to Queens Park Savannah for a coconut and then continued on to the evening street food market to sample a bunch of different local foods - everything from doubles to pholourie and roast fish.
Yousef Gyro (https://goo.gl/maps/vJkVQL9S5zMSSnGw5) - Trinidad and Tobago is so diverse and there’s even a local Middle Eastern population including Yousef Gyro, owned by descendants of Syrian immigrants. They make all sorts of wraps and gyros and combinations you won’t find anywhere else. This is the ultimate late night food in Trinidad!
Dass Doubles Factory (https://goo.gl/maps/X6yvzWiQi9WscWdc6) - We did have a quick doubles at the street food night market, but we went to Dass Doubles Factory for the real deal late night doubles. They made the barras fresh and load them up with heavy peppa sauce and delicious curry chickpeas.

Capital is Port of Spain, located on the Gulf of Paria,

Geography
Geologically Trinidad and Tobago is an extension of the South America; although some believe, it is part of the Lesser Antilles archipelagos while few others argue it is on its own archipelagos.
Three relatively low mountain ranges cross Trinidad from east to west. Heavily forested Northern Range rises into two peaks highest one is El Cerro del Aripo at 940 meters and El Tucuche is little shorer at 936 meters.
The low-lying range Central Range extends diagonally across the island with swampy areas rising to rolling hills. The Southern Range is a broken line of hills extends along the southern coast.
The Caroni Plain, a muddy sediment, extends southward, between Northern and Central Range.
There are many rivers and streams, the most significant are the 50 km long Ortoire River that flow eastward into the Atlantic. It is glow in the dark, with the eerie blue bioluminescence.
Trinidad has a one of a kind lake, it ls not your average lake with clear blue water; The Pitch Lake is pitch black, a largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world, estimated to contain 10 million tons asphalt, covers about 100 acres. Pitch Lake is also a popular tourist attraction
Most of the soils of Trinidad are fertile, with the exception of the sandy and unstable terrain found in the southern part of the island.
History
Trinidad and Tobago was originally inhabited by peace-loving Igneri, a part of Arawak Indians over 7,000 years ago, making it the earliest settled part of the Caribbean. Several waves of migration took place and the fierce Caribs were living in the islands when
Christopher Columbus set his eyes on them in 1498, named it Trinidad after the three mountain peaks at its southeast corner and Tavaco after a local long-stemmed tobacco pipe, Natives resisted European settlement but they couldn’t win with modern weponary and very determined European men.
Spain colonized Trinidad 1592.
1620-40s, with the Dutch, English and Latvia’s all attempting to colonies Tobago in the early 17th century, The Dutch settle on Tobago by 1630.
The French capture Tobago by 1781, transformed it into a sugar-producing colony. British captures Trinidad in 1797 and formalized by the Treaty of Amiens in 1802.
As the sugar price went down, Cacao took over, in the early 19th century, farmers from South American were strongly encouraged to move to Trinidad to cultivate cacao.
Slavery abolished in 1834; decades after that, Indians were brought to work on sugar plantations.
Trinidad and Tobago were administratively combined as a single British colony in 1889.
Trinidad and Tobago joins the British West Indies Federation in 1958, but a year later established an internal self-government with Williams as prime minister.
On Aug. 31, 1962, formally became an independent state and choose to remain a member of the Commonwealth with Elizabeth II as the queen.
1976 - Trinidad and Tobago becomes a republic within the Commonwealth with Ellis Clarke, as president, a ceremonial roll and Eric Williams as prime minister

Bordering the Caribbean to the north, it shares maritime boundaries with other nations including Barbados to the northeast, Grenada to the northwest, Guyana to the southeast, and Venezuela to the south and west. The country covers an area of 5,128 square kilometres (1,980 sq mi) and consists of two main islands, Trinidad and Tobago, with numerous smaller landforms. The two main islands are divided into nine regions, and one ward. Sangre Grande is the largest of the country's nine regions, comprising about 18% of the total area and 10% of the total population of the country. Trinidad and Tobago lies outside of the hurricane belt.
