Narendra Modi declares Sauni Yojna in Rajkot, Saurashtra
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced ambitious plan of filling surplus water of Narmada to 115 dams of Saurashtra region in Gujarat. Announcing the Rs 10000 crore 'Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation Yojna' (Sauni yojna) with a video presentation at Rajkot's Hemu Gadhvi hall, Shri Modi said that one million acre ft water will be supplied to Saurashtra region to fill up the dams. Modi said the government officials and consultants have worked for one and half year on this project. He said he has announced many schemes and projects during his rule and many are completed, but this scheme is very special because it would continue to add value to lives of the people of Saurashtra for next 100 years. Modi said his political career kicked off with fighting an election from Rajkot, and therefore this region has special place in his heart. He said in the next five years, he will not only focus on SAUNI project, but will also kick start the Kalpasar project. "We will hold conventions of farmers at 115 dam sites to honor goddess Narmada. Each convention will be attended by minimum 10000 farmers," Shri Modi said adding that he would show the film of 'Sauni yojna' at each convention. Modi said that the dams are not full of water at present, but it should be seen as an opportunity, as we can do lot of desilting work. He said the year of 2013 will see lot of activities of desilting to increase the water carrying capacity of the dams.

PARALLEL ACTION & OVERTAKE: Saurashtra Mail V/s Aravali Express
Two old mighty of Western Railway ie Valsad (BL) WCAM-1 and WCAM-2P, racing with each other along with their respective load. WCAM-2P running with train from Jaipur, Rajasthan ie 19708 Aravalli Express on STA line and WCAM-1 running with train from Okha/Rajkot/Veraval, Gujarat ie 19006 Saurashtra Mail on main UP line. I saw two trains approaching Goregaon and running parallel, so I immediately pulled out my Mobile to capture this action. This time Saurashtra mail that comes from behind won the race. 19708, Aravalli Express comes with BGKT WDP-4B from Jaipur till Ahmedabad at 22:10 and from there WCAM-2P takes charge of this train and leaves at 22:35. Initially before ACfication this train use to get WCAM-1, however after conversion WCAM-2P got some breathing space and its regularized with this train. Sometime it also gets WAP-4. 19006, Saurashtra Mail comes with RTM/VTA WDM-3A from Veraval, Rajkot/Okha till Ahmedabad at 22:25 and from there WCAM-1 takes charge of this train and leaves at 22:50. After ACfication conversion, link for this train fluctuate in between WCAM-1 and WCAM-2P. Arrival time of both trains at Borivali is 5:51 AM for Aravalli and 6:09 AM for Saurashtra. However most of the times these two trains' runs after each other and one can see parallel action after Borivali. In this video Aravalli was running on time which has to reach BDTS at 6:45 AM and it normally comes on time at BDTS whereas Saurashtra was running before time which has to reach BCT at 7:40 ...

Boarding the Saurashtra Mail at Mithapur (Aug. 1995)
After spending a few days at my wife's hometown, it was time to head back to Bombay. At that time, there were just two mail/exp trains from Okha - the daily Saurashra Mail and the weekly Okha-Puri Exp. Our train came in with a short rake; it would acquire more coaches at Rajkot, a few hours later. I was excited to travel by non-AC First Class - this offered the ideal combination of privacy and wind on the face!!! Mithapur has historically been the salt capital of India. The very hot and mostly dry coast of this region is ideal for the production of salt through the natural evaporation process in saltpans (as the fields fed with brine from the sea are called).

Rajdhani vs Saurashtra Janata Express at Andheri
Date: 2/03/2012 Location: Andheri Time: 18:04 hours Camera: Nokia Lumia 800 720p BL WCAM 1 21840 with 19017 Saurashtra Janta Express gradually accelerating out of Andheri while my 17:06 Virar - Andheri local (which becomes the 18:13 Andheri - Virar Fast) waits her turn to enter PF. 8 OF Andheri. Immediately after the Janta passed, I knew it was time for the August Kranti Rajdhani to leave Andheri and quickly hopped on to the other side of the door and captured the Rajdhani being hauled by a LGD WAP 7 #30274. One of the best captures I have done! (according to me ! :D )
