While we're all eagerly awaiting to hear more about GTAV, Rockstar Games flew us here at GTA 'Hood and several others from various Rockstar-related fan sites up to New York earlier this month to experience a hands-on session of both the single-and multiplayer portions of Max Payne 3.
You can read my impressions of the game here at GTA 'Hood, as well as fellow site staffer Jesse's over at TeamXbox.
Rockstar Games have sent over a video to several fan sites in the webring today taken during the scoring of Max Payne 3's soundtrack - showcasing that iconic portion of the original Max Payne theme on cello.

First of all, we'd like to again thank you and everyone out there for the amazing response to the debut Grand Theft Auto V trailer. We know that there are a ton of questions you all have about the game, including release date and lots else. Right now, we are very hard at work on the game and are excited as well to show and tell you more as development progresses - expect that we'll be talking much more about GTAV starting at some point in a few months' time. Please hang tight until then and thank you all for your patience and support!
Great news, right? Of course, many fans expected this to be the case, but it's nice to have an official confirmation from Rockstar themselves. They also answered a question specifically on whether we'll see the cities of Las Venturas and San Fierro in the game:
Question:"Rockstar, I really can't wait for new information about the new GTA. And is it only in Los Santos or too in SF and LV?" - MatsvanStam
Answer:As we revealed in our announcement about the game being officially in full development, Grand Theft Auto V is set in the city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches - and it will be the largest and most ambitious open world game we've ever created"
With Max Payne 3 coming out in May (delayed from March), many fans were saying that Rockstar would like to "get Max out of the way" before they start talking more about GTAV. I agree with that as it makes sense. Nowadays it seems like Rockstar's style to keep as much focus on one upcoming game at a time, especially if one has an imminent release date.
I'm sure many will speculate that E3 2012, the big games expo, which will be held in GTAV's inspirational city of Los Angeles will be the perfect place to show more about the game in early June (two weeks after Max Payne 3 is out); however, I've heard some unfavorable words from Rockstar about the idea of exhibiting there that I just don't think that would be the case. Then again, with the unpredictability that is Rockstar Games, anything is possible.
While both titles have been available for 10 years on its predecessor, it seems as though GTA III and GTA Vice City are coming to the PlayStation 3. This conclusion comes from a listing this week of both titles on the website of that of the ESRB, the ratings board in North America for video games.
GTA: San Andreas is already available for the Xbox 360 as a digital download, released in October 2008. But this version was the same standard definition version which released on the original Xbox. Given the recent release of GTA III on mobile devices in HD, it's very likely that we'll see the same happening with these releases which will no doubt be available as digital downloads via the PlayStation Network.
When that is though, we don't know, and Rockstar Games won't comment on it until they announce the release date themselves. Perhaps it could be in the next couple of months (March?), after all, Max Payne 3 is now releasing two months later in May. Or it could be as part of an anniversary release this October when GTA: Vice City celebrates 10 years since its original release on PS2.
Whenever it is, it better be in HD though.
A lot of you may be familiar with GTA IV: San Andreas by now, a PC mod which replaces the entire GTA IV map with that of GTA: San Andreas'. This week, beta 1 of a similar total conversion mod was released that replaces the map with Vice City, called Vice City Rage! You will need a copy of Episodes from Liberty City to play it, though. Check out the trailer and further links below:
More information and download links are available on the mod's official website at vicecityrage.blogspot.com.
Update 2: Rockstar Games released an update for the Android version, which among bug fixes, adds support for the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Droid Bionic.
Update: The game is now released! Check your mobile device's marketplace to download! Let us know what you think about it by commenting here or sending us a tweet at @PlayingGTA!
First announced back in October, Rockstar Games today revealed the release date for the 10 year anniversary edition of GTAIII for mobile devices to be next week, December 15th. They have also provided an updated list of supported devices, which most notably now also includes the iPhone 4 and 4th generation iPod touch. Unfortunately it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is not supported anymore, at least for now.
I was waiting for someone to do this, and I'm glad to see it so soon. Some of you may remember GTAIV's trailers being recreated in past GTA games back in 2007 and 2008. Now with the GTAV trailer finally out, someone did the same by recreating the debut trailer in GTA: San Andreas.
It's very well done, Matthias! You can watch it on YouTube, as well as a side-by-side comparison below.
Walmart taking Grand Theft Auto V pre-orders with delivery date of 6/01/2012. Odds are the date is not correct but it is interesting! What do you guys think?
I'm sure most of you have watched the debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto V a few times by now already. The trailer of just over a minute contains multiple scenes, and if you don't have your finger on the pause button, you'll likely miss many interesting things.
Today I've put up a feature article whereby I dissect the trailer and aim to highlight all the interesting bits I could spot. Read an extract below, or the full GTAV analysis here.
"Im sure everyone was excited when they saw this fly-by of a fighter jet! Whats significant about this though is what Rockstar have previously said about the exclusion of planes in GTAIV. Their reasoning was that it wouldnt have made much sense to have planes in a game where you would quickly reach the other side of the map. Given that GTAV not only has planes, but a super fast fighter jet, does this indicate quite a large map in the game? We hope so!" - Read full GTAV analysis
Rockstar Games this morning issued the official press release for Grand Theft Auto V, providing clarity on a few things. First is that the game is set in the city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches. There was some speculation yesterday over whether the game expands to other cities within the state of San Andreas, but I think this gives us a clear answer.
Second is that Grand Theft Auto V is "another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe", and is going in a "bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer". Perhaps the "new direction" is referring to the rumor on multiple playable characters.
The story is said to focus on the pursuit of the "almighty dollar" in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California. This more affirms that this is not similar to the GTA3 trilogy's "San Andreas" as was speculated yesterday, so don't expect to see San Francisco or Las Vegas in here.
