Rovinj, Croatia: Istria's Old World Oasis
Like the rest of the Croatian coast, Rovinj was part of the Venetian Empire for centuries. And Istria remained part of Italy until after WWII. That's why this region is enthusiastically bi-lingual and an engaging mix of Croatia and Italy. Motovun, Croatia: Istria's Top Hill Town
Perched high above vineyards and a truffle-filled forest, Motovun on the Istrian peninsula is the best-known and most-visited hill town in the region. And for good reason: Its Old Town is particularly evocative, with a colorful old church and a rampart walk with spine-tingling vistas of the rugged Istrian interior. As you wander through Motovun you may hear the beautiful a cappella sounds of local klapa music. The best of Istria Croatia
www.croatianvillasforsale.co.uk Istria Croatia, also sometimes known as the 'The Croatian Tuscany', has many beautiful landscapes be they on the coast around towns such as Pula, Porec and Rovinj - or around inland rural villages such as Medulin, Oprtalj, Pazin and Buzet. Looking at a map of Istria you will see that the region juts out into the Adriatic sea and therefore is virtually surrounded by water. Visit Istria and you will experience many wonderful sights that will catch your eye such as medieval hilltop villages populated with characteristically Istrian dwellings and Croatian properties, vineyards producing world class wines, glorious countryside famous for its truffles and of course a coastline to suit all tastes. MTB Street view - Croatia, Istria, Mt. Ucka, Vojak peak - to camp Preluk by Srdjan Canic
MTB Street view. Starting point: Vojak peak (1400 m), Mt Ucka, Istria, Croatia. Finish: camp Preluk (2 m), ~30 km ride. It was a nice day in septembre 2011 and I decided to go to the highest peak in Istria, just above Opatija, Icici and Lovran, well known summer locations in Croatia. I'm just a recreational biker, doing about 1500 km per season, and this was by far the biggest challenge of my life. It turned out to be more difficult than expected/hoped (I really thought about calling the rescue service) but I survived and now I'm glad I did it. Unlikely to do it again though. :) Recorded in Septembre 2011. You can also find detailed story about the ascend to Učka, along with some of the pictures, in my blog - srdjanicanic.travellerspoint.com (Serbian only). Music score is Maksim Mrvica's Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor. Look out for more MTB Street view videos from my Croatia experience - Rijeka, Volosko, Opatija, Icici, Lovran, Moscenicka draga, Rovinj and the island of Krk.

NP Brijuni - Istria - Croatia
The Brijuni archipelago is situated in front of the western coast of Istria. The islands comprise three main islands: Veli Brijun (Big Brijun), Mali Brijun (Small Brijun) and Vanga as well as several islets and reefs. The coasts of the islands are well indented. Due to its favourable geographic position and low terrain, Brijuni Islands are known for their mild climate. The vegetation on the islands is extremely rich Mediterranean: holm oak, laurel, pine, olive, rosemary and underbrush. Already in classical antiquity the picturesque Brijuni Islands attracted people seeking natural beauty and tranquility, the archipelago has been inhabited since Roman and Byzantine times, and the ruins of Roman villas as well as numerous remains of other buildings and decorative mosaics speak of the attraction of the archipelago. National Park Brijuni includes the surrounding sea with exceptionally preserved sea fauna. In 1945 after World War II the Brijuni became part of Yugoslavia and President Marshal Josip Broz Tito made the Brijuni Islands his personal State Summer Residence. Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik designed a pavilion for Tito. Almost 100 foreign heads of state visited Tito on his islands, along with film stars including Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Carlo Ponti, and Gina Lollobrigida

Wines and food of Istria in Croatia w Guido Schwengersbauer
www.BKWineTours.com *Come on a wine & food tour with BKWine!* --- Guido Schwengersbauer gives us an introduction to the wines and food of Istria in Croatia Istria is a region in northern Croatia on the border to Slovenia, not far from Italy. It is an area known for good food, good wine, olive oil, truffles and a beautiful landscape. On the wine side, much has happened since 1990, when Yugoslavia disappeared. Earlier it was important to make large quantities of cheap wine. Now there is a new generation of winegrowers, called The Young Wild, with new ideas, new technology, and new skills in how to make quality wine. There has been a revolution in winemaking in Croatia. There are two genuine, unique, autochthonous grape varieties in Istria: First, malvasia, or malvasia istriana (from Istria), a white grape variety making full-bodied and relatively aromatic white wines, but much more sophisticated than malvasia wines from many other wine regions. The typical red wine is made from a grape variety called teran (a relative to refosk or refosco). It used to give very tannic and heavy wines. Now there are many exciting new wineries making unique high quality wines from this grape with modern winemaking techniques. There are around 40 modern wineries in Istria and everyone is making a lot of experiments. Gastronomy: Istrian food is based on the special climate and the special temperatures they have (in summer and in winter), and the wind, the Bora. The wind makes it possible to ...
