Entry from: Lugo, Spain Entry Title: "San Froil" Entry: "On my 4 day weekend I was able to gather up a rather interesting set of plans. My friend Juan had taken me out for dinner and to show me around Pontevedra and my friend Eva had mentioned going to a festival in her hometown of Lugo. Lugo is about 2 and a half to three hours away from Pontevedra on a bus. I wasn't sure what kind of festival this would be, and I had no idea what to expect. I wanted to experience the Spanish culture and what better way to do it than spend the day at a large Spanish festival. So on Monday morning I headed to the bus station to meet Juan so we could buy our tickets to Lugo. The bus station is about a 20 minute walk to my house, so it's not a far journey at all. The first half of the bus ride Juan and I talked in a little bit of English. Juan wanted to practice some of his English because on Saturday night we had talked in Spanish the whole time. It didn't bother me to speak a little English, so we chatted about traveling and different things in English. The second half of the bus ride we stopped chatting for a bit and I started paying attention to the country side and I was keeping my eye on the road. I was in the back of the bus and I get really motion sick. My head started feeling terrible and I felt really dizzy and a little sick. I had to get up and try and find a bathroom on the bus because I didn't think I was going to be able to hold it in. However, it turned out there was no bathroom and we had about an hour left. Juan gave me a bag in case I needed to use it, but I just sat as straight in my chair as possible so I didn't feel the bus hitting the turns as sharply. The bus ride was in the countryside, so it was almost like a 3 hour roller coaster. Sitting in the back makes it a little worse too. We didn't use a main highway the whole time. When I finally got to the Lugo bus station and I didn't need to throw up anymore I was extremely relieved. The bus ride was a nightmare, but I was able to survive it. It kind of sucks that I'm not able to ride on buses with out getting sick anymore. I used to ride the worlds tallest and fastest roller coasters when I was a kid and had no problems at all. Now I can't even ride a bus without getting sick. It's pretty lame if you ask me. O well, what can you do? When we got to Lugo Juan and I called Eva and she came and met us at the bus station. Eva is a children's teacher at the same school Juan and I work at. She is able to speak English very well. She will explain things to me in Spanish and if I looked confused she can just tell me what she was saying in English. Eva walked us over to our hotel where Juan and I would be staying the night. We grabbed the key and put down our backpacks and grabbed our umbrellas and went out the door and started our journey. Eva took us out to get some food because we were all getting pretty hungry. We ended up going to a Chinese restaurant. The Chinese food is pretty similar to what we are accustomed to in U.S. However, I would pick U.S. Chinese food over Spanish Chinese food any day. The U.S. really knows how to make some food. At the end of the meal Eva and Juan started arguing over who was going to pay. I couldn't even get in a word to let them know I would have paid as well. Eva told us that she was going to pay for the food because we were her guests. I don't have any complaints about that. Having Spanish friends is really nice because they like to pay for a lot of the meals. haha. After we ate, we headed over to the festival grounds to get a quick peak at it. We walked around the festival grounds and there were tons of carnival rides. In comparison to Ballwin days, the closest thing to a carnival in St. Louis, this carnival was ten times the size. The festival grounds had mini roller coasters, mini water rides, and big thrill rides too. They had the slingshot ride where you are put in a ball and are sent flying into the air like a rock out of a slingshot. They even had a children's playhouse dedicated to Mr. Bean. It was called Mr. Bean 4 and had all sorts of Mr. Bean stuff on the outside. I was shocked to see it. Rowan Atkinson is one of my ..."
