Florence Vidor (July 23, 1895, Houston, Texas – November 3, 1977, Pacific Palisades, California) was an American actress.
She was born Florence Cobb, but later her mother married the realty agent J. F. Arto, whose name she assumed as a child. She started working in silent movies thanks to her husband, film director King Vidor. She signed her first contract with Vitagraph Studios in 1916. Her early fame was due to her role in the 1921 film Hail the Woman.
She divorced Vidor in 1925 after having their daughter Suzanne, but she kept his surname. In 1926, she married classical violinist Jascha Heifetz. Her career ended with the advent of sound films.
She died in 1977 at the age of 82.
Florence (/ˈflɒrəns/ FLOR-əns; Italian: Firenze [fiˈrɛntse]) is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the Metropolitan City of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with approximately 382,000 inhabitants, expanding to over 1,520,000 in the metropolitan area.
Florence is famous for its history: a centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of the time, it is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and has been called "the Athens of the Middle Ages". A turbulent political history includes periods of rule by the powerful Medici family, and numerous religious and republican revolutions. From 1865 to 1871 the city was the capital of the recently established Kingdom of Italy.
The Historic Centre of Florence attracts millions of tourists each year, and Euromonitor International ranked the city as the world's 89th most visited in 2012, with 1.8 million visitors. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. The city is noted for its culture, Renaissance art and architecture and monuments. The city also contains numerous museums and art galleries, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Pitti, and still exerts an influence in the fields of art, culture and politics. Due to Florence's artistic and architectural heritage, it has been ranked by Forbes as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Hail the Woman is a 1921 American silent drama film that was directed by John Griffith Wray. It was a Thomas Ince (Ince/Associated Producers) production. A Library of Congress copy of this film is listed as incomplete.
Oliver Beresford is a controlling and uncompromisingly rigid father. When shameful stories about his daughter Judith surface, he bans her from his house. Her brother David is training for the ministry at his father’s insistence, but he has secretly wed Nan Higgins, the stepdaughter of an 'odd-jobs man', and has fathered, then abandoned his child. Nan travels up to New York where she becomes a prostitute after the baby is born. Judith goes to New York, to make a career for herself, and finds Nan and her baby just as the young woman is dying. Judith decides to raise the child, and later she returns to New England, on the day that David is to be ordained, and confronts him with the child in front of the congregation.

The voices of many actors and actresses from the silent film era have been lost to us forever. We have no idea what Mabel Normand, Florence La Badie, or others sounded like. But there were some stars who were able to transition to talkies or left their voices on audio recordings such as Rudolph Valentino who sang his favorite ballad. Ive included the voices of some of my favorite silent actors in this video. Please comment!
