Heart Surgery: Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Replacement
Heart Surgery: Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Replacement
Fifteen percent of the population will need a new heart valve--either from age or congenital disease. Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates bring heart patients a new option in valve replacement. Current methods require a breaking of the breastplate; the CTVSA surgeon enters through the ribs to remove the damaged valve and suture in the new valve. The Mini-AVR is much less invasive than traditional open heart, the patient's recovery is much easier, there's less blood loss, shorter hospital stays (financial impact), smaller scar--without compromising quality, outcome or patient care.-This option helps patients leave the hospital in 2-3 days (vs. 1 week), and return to full activity in 1-2 weeks (vs. 12 with traditional open heart). Without compromising traditional surgical protocol, CTVSA's approach provides heart patients a low impact solution for valve replacement. This procedure was pioneered by Dr. Galloway at NYU. CTVSA specializes in minimally invasive approaches to heart surgery and Mini AVR is unique to CTVSA in the Midwest. This video presents the CTVSA/Dr. Galloway approach but was filmed under an Italian Doctor trained by Dr. Galloway. The procedure is the same.

Transcatheter Aortic Heart Valve (TAVI)
Transcatheter Aortic Heart Valve (TAVI)
Transcatheter Aortic Heart Valve (TAVI) is a procedure involving a collapsible aortic heart valve that can be manipulated into place with minimally-invasive techniques. The surgeon introduces the tiny valve through a tube inserted in the groin or between the ribs and guides it into the valve to seal the damaged valve to restore function. Oklahoma Heart Hospital is one of a handful of elite institutions nationwide taking part in the PARTNER II trial utilizing a transcatheter aortic heart valve.

Cardiac & Transplant Surgeon Dr Peter Tesar gave 3Dme the head cam video footage he recorded whilst performing this procedure. Dr Tesar trains & educates surgeons so requested that 3Dme produce a surgically accurate representation, including accurate suturing techniques, which he could talk over whilst teaching trainee surgeons. Dr Tesar has presented this video at a number of international Cardiac & Transplant Surgery Educational Conventions. 3Dme specialises in modelling prosthetic devices such as the heart valve depicted in this video, then utilising high definition 3D visualisation to take a look inside the human body to communicate a surgical procedure in an anatomically & surgically accurate manner.

Love Is: Russian heart-fixing factory
Time for our 'Russia Close Up' series where we take in some of the most fascinating places in the world's largest country. Today our exploration reaches the Penza region, six hundred kilometres south-east of Moscow. The capital, also called Penza - was founded in the 17th century and lies on seven hills on the banks of the river Sura. But there's a surprisingly high-tech hub hiding in the middle of its rich heritage. Penza is home to a unique and life-saving heart valve factory that supplies its vital products both in Russia and abroad. RT's Igor Ogorodnev has been to see it in action. His report includes pictures of surgery. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com
