Sylva Koscina Tribute
Sylva Koscina Tribute
Here is a light song from the 1975 movie "La Pupa Del Gangster" (with Sophia Loren), performed by Giulia Alessandroni, and chosen to illustrate the charm of the Yugoslavian beauty Sylva Koscina. Sylva Koscina was born in 1933. World War II proved to be catastrophic in her home country. Koscina and her family fled to Italy following the end of the war. After winning some beauty contests as a teenager, she attended the University of Naples and worked as a fashion model before entering films. Her first film was the Italian comedy "Are We Men or Corporals?" (1955, with Totò). Koscina had acted in a string of comedies when she was cast in the peplum adventure "Hercules" (1958, with Steve Reeves). With the international success of "Hercules", Koscina became a star. After returning for the sequel "Hercules Unchained" (1959), she acted in such films as "Jessica" (1962, with Angie Dickinson and Maurice Chevalier), "Hot Enough for June" (1964, with Dirk Bogarde), "Three Bites of the Apple" (1967, with David McCallum and Tammy Grimes), and "Hornets' Nest" (1970, with Rock Hudson). Often appearing unclad in her later films, Koscina appeared in Eve's suit in "He and She" (1969, with Laurence Harvey) and "The House of Exorcism" (1973, with Telly Savalas and Elke Sommer), among others. Enjoy!

Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962) Trailer
Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962) Trailer
Ernest Hemingway's semi-autobiographical "Nick Adams stories" formed the basis for this epic-length 1962 tribute to the master storyteller, with Richard Beymer ('West Side Story') as Nick and, amidst a star-studded supporting cast, Paul Newman in a Golden Globe nominated performance as the punch-drunk ex-prizefighter known as The Battler. Before Hemingway could write about life, he had to live it to the fullest - as does his fictional persona, the teenager Nick Adams (Beymer), who leaves his Michigan lake country home on foot in 1916 to learn about life and love and death. Nick's journey of discovery commences with run-ins with a brutal train brakeman and the half crazed Battler (Newman); takes him to New York and then finally to World War I and Europe, where he receives his baptism of fire at the Italian front and finds romance with a hospital nurse, Rosanna (Susan Strasberg). Ricardo Montalban, Eli Wallach, Diane Baker, Dan Dailey, Jessica Tandy and Arthur Kennedy give vivid performances in this Golden Globe nominee for Best Motion Picture - Drama, a story of adventure, of love, and of one man maturing through suffering as learns the laws of life. Jessica's Labyrinth at Chatham University
Jessica's Labyrinth at Chatham University
This video is a still-frame capture of Jessica's Labyrinth on August 19, 2008. Jessica's Labyrinth is dedicated in memory of Jessica G. Davant, through the generosity of her mother, Diana Risien Jannetta, stepfather, Dr. Peter Jannetta, and brother, Robert M. Davant III. Located on the lawn in front of Berry Hall on the University's Shadyside Campus, the labyrinth landscape was designed by Matthew "Brody" Little, a third year graduate student in Chatham's Master of Landscape Architecture program, who won the landscaping design competition in January 2008. The labyrinth was installed by Vento Landscaping and measures 60 feet in diameter. Situated on a small rise above Woodland Road, the landscaping hides the labyrinth at eye level, allowing it to be gradually discovered by visitors as they walk the slight incline from Woodland Road to the entry path. It is believed to be the largest outdoor public labyrinth in Pittsburgh. Jessica Grimes Davant (1962-2006) attended The Ellis School in Pittsburgh, St. Michaels Sussex in England through the British-American Educational Foundation, and Roanoke College in Salem, Va. She was graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of arts and sciences degree in 1987, and was devoted to nonprofit organizations and the fine arts. She worked on the development staff of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and later the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, which dedicated a tree in Schenley Park in her memory. Jessica was also a volunteer with the ...
