It is a mixture of action, drama, romance, and history. The film is Cesar Montano's directorial debut with an almost entirely Visayan cast, and perhaps the biggest film ever to be shot in its entirety in the Visayas. The film, intended for both national and international exhibition, boldly used Visayan as the main language. It was given an "A" rating by the Cinema Evaluation Board or CEB of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and was CM Films' entry to the 2004 Metro Manila Film Festival. The CEB described Cesar Montano's direction as "meticulous but light-handed." It turned "a somewhat rambling and slow screenplay into a poetic, sometimes even magical, current of silent struggle and survival." [5] Panaghoy sa Suba garnered 16 awards and 11 nominations including 5 from the Metro Manila Film Festival, was also given an endorsement by the UNESCO. It was named Best Picture at the "International Festival of Independent Films" held in Brussels ...

During the 90s, Kumar was primarily described as the action hero of Bollywood,[1] starring in hit action films such as Khiladi (1992), Mohra (1994) and Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), and being particularly known for his "Khiladi Series". However, he was also recognised for his performances in romantic films like Yeh Dillagi (1994) and Dhadkan (2000) as well as dramatic films such as Ek Rishtaa (2001). In 2002, he won his first Filmfare Award in the Best Villain category, for his performance in Ajnabee (2001). Willing to change his intransigent image, Kumar later ventured mostly into comedy films.[1] His comic performances in films such as Hera Pheri (2000), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Garam Masala (2005) and Jaan-E-Mann (2006) met with critical acclaim. His success further rose in 2007, when he starred in four consecutive commercial hits. Having done so, he has established himself as one of the prominent actors of the Hindi film industry.[2][3] In 2008, the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Law on Kumar in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.

Festival Director, Martinus Geleynse, talks with Raquel Rakovac about the Hamilton 24 Festival, better known locally as the H24. Place: Theatre Aquarius Date: May 25th, 2011 www.h24.ca About the H24 (content from their web site) The HAMILTON24 was founded in the Spring of 2008 as the Hamilton 24-Hour Film Festival. The idea was simple to hold a fun, community-enhancing event in which filmmakers would produce short films within a 24-hour period and then screen them publicly. With only two months of planning, the event became an overnight success. Fourteen filmmaking teams registered, and the screening audience numbered nearly 200 people! Three industry judges (including Gemini-winning Canadian producer Peter Meyboom) juried the films, and prizes worth nearly $7000 were distributed. The following year, the festival grew dramatically with 37 filmmaking teams registered, and 400 people in the screening audience. In fact, many potential audience members were turned away at the door! The screening had sold out in only 4 days. Jury members included actor Yannick Bisson (Murdoch Mysteries, Sue Thomas FB Eye), talent agency owner Debi Mcguin, and Karen Black (Director of Canadian Programming/Initiatives for Toronto International Film Festival). The 2009 festival included workshops, networking events and parties, and a small industry fair. In response to the incredible creative potential in the Greater Hamilton Area, festival organizers decided to expand the 2010 festival by ...

North Korean Defectors - Movie | Crossing 2 of 10
Movie | Crossing 2 of 10 Crossing is a Korean movie which is going to be aired in late June 2008. The movie is based on a real story about the life of a North Korean defector and his family. Actor Cha In-pyo starred as a North Korean coal miner who crossed illegally into China to get medicine for his wife. His wife passed away soon after he crossed the border, and he was separated from his 11-year-old son (played by Shin Myung-chul) who was trying to trace him from North Korea. The story shares the hardship of North Korean refugees in the late 1990s, with famine striking the country and killed an estimated 1 million people. The North Koreans couldnt cross into South Korea directly because of landmines and heavy military presence at the border these defectors had to cross into China and made a de-tour to South Korea instead. The Chinese government, an ally of the North Korean regime, does not recognize the defectors as refugees and would send them back to North Korea to face stiff action. Crossing will represent South Korea as a candidate for the foreign film category at the 81st Academy Awards.

"The Proposal" Movie Review
"The Proposal" Movie Review
www.mannythemovieguy.com In The Proposal, Sandra Bullock returns to the genre that she does best romantic comedy. But the actress politely corrected me when I interviewed her for The Proposal. She said the film is not a romantic comedy, just a comedy period. Bullock says, It drives me insane when movies are called romantic comedies when most of them are neither romantic nor funny. The Proposal is a funny comedy. Shes absolutely right about that last statement. The film is very funny indeed. Directed by ex-choreographer Anne Fletcher, The Proposal has an infectious rhythm that will keep your interest all the way up to the predictable ending. Sure, the film is formulaic but at least the filmmakers have the winning formula down pat. The movie made me giggle like a blushing bride. Bullock stars as high-powered New York book editor Margaret Tate. Much like Meryl Streeps character in The Devil Wears Prada, Margaret is a terror to work for. The Proposal even pays homage to Streeps dramatic entrance in the 2006 film. As soon as Margaret enters the building, her employees start sending instant messages to one another saying the witch is on her broom. Its a big dilemma for Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) to work as the witchy Margarets executive assistant. Hes an ambitious book lover who knows that working for his demanding boss may pay career dividends later on. But little does Andrew know, he will be the one who will save Margarets career.
