Malawi (/məˈlɔːwi/, /məˈlɑːwi/ or /ˈmæləwi/; Chichewa: [maláβi] or [maláwi]), officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. Malawi is over 118,000 km2 (45,560 sq mi) with an estimated population of 16,777,547 (July 2013 est.). Its capital is Lilongwe, which is also Malawi's largest city; the second largest is Blantyre and the third is Mzuzu. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area. The country is also nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa".
Malawi is among the smallest countries in Africa. Lake Malawi takes about a third of Malawi's area.

Lake Malawi
Lake Malawi, also known as Lake Nyasa in Tanzania and Lago Niassa in Mozambique, is an African Great Lake and the southernmost lake in the East African Rift system, located between Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. It is the ninth largest lake in the world and the third largest and second deepest lake in Africa. It is home to more species of fish than any other lake, including about 1000 species of cichlids. The Mozambique portion of the lake was officially declared a reserve by the Government of Mozambique on June 10, 2011, and in Malawi a portion of the lake is included in the Lake Malawi National Park. Lake Malawi is a meromictic lake; permanent stratification and the oxic-anoxic boundary are maintained by moderately small chemical and thermal gradients.
Geography
Lake Malawi is between 560 kilometres (350 mi) and 580 kilometres (360 mi) long, and about 75 kilometres (47 mi) wide at its widest point. The total surface area of the lake is about 29,600 square kilometres (11,400 sq mi). The lake has shorelines on western Mozambique, eastern Malawi, and southern Tanzania. The largest river flowing into it is the Ruhuhu River, and there is an outlet at its southern end, the Shire River, a tributary that flows into the very large Zambezi River in Mozambique.

Malawi (Commonwealth realm)
Malawi was a predecessor to the modern-day Republic of Malawi. It existed between 1964 and 1966. When British rule ended in 1964, by the Malawi Independence Act 1964, the Nyasaland Protectorate, formerly a constituent of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, was given independence as a Commonwealth realm with the British monarch as head of state. Malawi shared the Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, with the other Commonwealth realms. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of Malawi:
The royal succession was governed by the same rules as the succession to the British throne. Elizabeth II did not reside in or visit Malawi in the 1960s but she did visit in 1979 (22–25 July) as Head of the Commonwealth.
Hastings Banda held office as prime minister (and head of government) of Malawi during this period. Following the abolition of the monarchy, the Republic of Malawi came into existence on 6 July 1966 and Banda became the first President of Malawi.

Teresa, a determined young woman, is a champion runner. Year after year, she has won one of the sport’s most challenging events, an extreme half-marathon up the slopes of Mount Mulanje, Malawi’s highest mountain.

Not ONCE has anyone asked me for money. Not ONCE have I been treated disrespectfully. Not ONCE have I felt intimidated or scared to interact with any locals. Malawians have accepted me with open arms, and for that, I am grateful. I sincerely love Malawi!

Framed by Malawi, Tanzania and Mosambique, Lake Malawi in the heart of Africa is situated at the southern end of East Africa’s Rift Valley. It extends more than six hundred kilometres from north to south, is up to eighty kilometres wide and in some sections is over seven hundred metres deep.Cichlids, the living jewels of Lake Malawi, are highly sought after among aquatic fish enthusiasts. The brightly-coloured males achieve the highest prices in both Europe and the U.S.A. Diving just off the coast is like being in a gigantic aquarium and around a thousand species of dazzling cichlids inhabit the rocky reefs around various islands. It is not necessary to dive deep to observe the Malawi cichlids as the most colourful varieties are to be found just below the surface. In the depths, strange craters rise from the muddy seabed. Some have a diameter of more than two metres and are one metre high. They are not volcanoes but the leks of male cichlids. The tiny fish spend months building the leks so as to make a good impression on passing females. Lake Malawi, the ‘Lake Of Stars’, is a paradise of nature where in 1980 the southern section became the first national park in the world to be used for the conservation of freshwater fish.

Gaspar, 27 years old, is the proud owner of an amazing, one-of-a-kind guitar. He earns his living thanks to his instrument and his passion for music. Now, after 11 years on the road, he’s on his way back to his native village.
Freddie’s realm is the sky. This young Dane grew up in Tanzania and learned how to fly in South Africa. Freddie, always ready for adventure, loves Africa and is now a full-fledged bush pilot.
Teresa, a determined young woman, is a champion runner. Year after year, she has won one of the sport’s most challenging events, an extreme half-marathon up the slopes of Mount Mulanje, Malawi’s highest mountain.

He was formally appointed Prime Minister of Nyasaland, and led the country to independence in 1964.[5]
Two years later, he proclaimed Malawi a republic with himself as the first president. He consolidated power and later declared Malawi a one-party state under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). In 1970, the MCP made him the party's President for Life. In 1971, he became president for Life of Malawi itself. A renowned anti-communist leader in Africa, he received support from the Western Bloc during the Cold War.[6] He generally supported women's rights, improved the country's infrastructure and barely maintained a good educational system relative to other African countries.[7] However, he presided over one of the most repressive regimes in Africa, an era that saw political opponents regularly tortured and murdered.[8][9][10] Human rights groups estimate that at least 6,000 people were killed, tortured and jailed without trial.[11] As many as 18,000 people were killed during his rule, according to one estimate.[12][13] His rule has been characterised as a "highly repressive autocracy."[14] He received criticism for maintaining full diplomatic relations with the apartheid government in South Africa.
By 1993, amid increasing domestic and international pressure, he agreed to hold a referendum which ended the one-party system. Soon afterwards, a special assembly ended his life-term presidency and stripped him of most of his powers. Banda ran for president in the democratic elections that followed and was defeated. He died in South Africa on 25 November 1997.
Early life
Kamuzu Banda was born Akim Kamnkhwala Mtunthama Banda near Kasungu in Malawi (then British Central Africa) to Mphonongo Banda and Akupingamnyama Phiri. His date of birth is unknown, as it took place when there was no birth registration documentation, but Banda himself often gave his date of birth as 14 May 1906. Later, when presented with evidence of certain tribal customs by a friend, Dr Donal Brody, Banda said: "No one knows the hour, the date, the month or the year in which I was born, although I now accept the evidence that you give me – March or April 1898."[15]
He left his village school near Mtunthama for his maternal grandparents' home and attended Chayamba Primary School in Chikondwa. In 1908, he moved to Chilanga mission station and was baptised in 1910.[16]
The name Kamnkhwala, meaning "little medicine", was replaced with Kamuzu, which means "little root". The name Kamuzu was given to him because he was conceived after his mother had been given root herbs by a medicine man to cure infertility.[17] He took the Christian name of Hastings after being baptised into the Church of Scotland by Dr George Prentice, a Scot, in 1910, naming himself after John Hastings, a Scottish missionary working near his village whom he admired. The prefix "doctor" was earned through his education.[17]
Around 1915–16, he left home on foot with Hanock Msokera Phiri, an uncle who had been a teacher at the nearby Livingstonia mission school, for Hartley, Southern Rhodesia (now Chegutu, Zimbabwe). He apparently wanted to enroll at the famous Scottish Presbyterian Lovedale Missionary Institute in South Africa but completed his Standard 8 education without studying there.
In 1917, he left on foot for Johannesburg in South Africa. He worked at the Witwatersrand Deep Mine on the Transvaal Reef for several years. During this time, he met Bishop William Tecumseh Vernon of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) who offered to pay his tuition fee at a Methodist school in the United States if he could pay his own passage.[17] In 1925, he left for New York.

Johnson Suleman (born 24 March 1971) is a Nigerian televangelist and the senior pastor and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, a church with its headquarters in Auchi, Edo State. After working as an assistant pastor in the Armor of God Church in Lagos from 1998, he started Omega Fire Ministries in 2004.
Callings and divine elections are purely products of predestination, which are conceived before the very foundation of the world and hatched into reality.A few days after he was born, some Prophets came from Warri to Benin (the place of his birth) with a message from God.When his parents desired to know what the message was, they said God told them “a prophet who would minister in God's presence has been born.
His parents refused to listen further because they were Muslims and did not see the possibility of their son leaving their fold. As the young Johnson began to grow, his parents noticed that he was a bit strange in the way he did his things.
He had a soft spot for the things of God, even while he was going to the mosque with his father; he knew he was not on the right path. He was in Auchi his hometown for his secondary education and encountered CHRIST but pressures mounted on him made him to withdraw for a little while. But he returned to Benin where he finally reconnected with DESTINY. He started moving out with the brethren for evangelism and prayers.
On June 20th, 1994, he had a revelation; the image of the globe was being given to him with Acts 10:38 written on it. Prior to this time, he had read through the entire Bible three times because his thirst for God was insatiable but all through his study, he had not given special attention to Acts 10:38. He was so shocked when he recovered from the vision and checked out what the scriptures reveals. "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him" --- Acts 10:38. That was when he understood the Mandate given to him by God to take the gospel around the world with a Power Ministry

Gaspar, 27 years old, is the proud owner of an amazing, one-of-a-kind guitar. He earns his living thanks to his instrument and his passion for music. Now, after 11 years on the road, he’s on his way back to his native village.
Freddie’s realm is the sky. This young Dane grew up in Tanzania and learned how to fly in South Africa. Freddie, always ready for adventure, loves Africa and is now a full-fledged bush pilot.
Teresa, a determined young woman, is a champion runner. Year after year, she has won one of the sport’s most challenging events, an extreme half-marathon up the slopes of Mount Mulanje, Malawi’s highest mountain.

In Malawi, a small state in southern Africa, the Phirilongwe Mountains are a very hard-to-access region. Isolated and cut off from the rest of the world, hundreds of villagers struggle to survive because most of them don’t have access to drinking water. The exhausting labor of gathering water is a question of life or death. Kurt Dahlin, an American pastor, who has been coming to Malawi for 20 years to dig wells, was distraught by this unbearable situation.
This year, Kurt has taken on the challenge of helping the people of Phirilongwe, but the task is daunting. Without a road, it’s impossible for a truck carrying a drilling rig to reach the village. If they are to experience the life-changing gift of clean drinking water, the community must come together and carve out stretches of roadway through the heart of the African savannah. It’s a collective effort that could transform their future.

Words cannot express how sincerely I've been treated so far in Malawi -- by every single person I've come in contact with. Malawi is the most laid back, peaceful and genuine place I've been over the last 4 weeks in Africa.
Not ONCE has anyone asked me for money. Not ONCE have I been treated disrespectfully. Not ONCE have I felt intimidated or scared to interact with any locals. Malawians have accepted me with open arms, and for that, I am grateful. I sincerely love Malawi!

Malawi (/məˈlɔːwi/, /məˈlɑːwi/ or /ˈmæləwi/; Chichewa: [maláβi] or [maláwi]), officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. Malawi is over 118,000 km2 (45,560 sq mi) with an estimated population of 16,777,547 (July 2013 est.). Its capital is Lilongwe, which is also Malawi's largest city; the second largest is Blantyre and the third is Mzuzu. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area. The country is also nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa".
Malawi is among the smallest countries in Africa. Lake Malawi takes about a third of Malawi's area.

Lake Malawi, Also Known As Lake Nyasa, Is A Large Freshwater Lake Situated Between The African Countries Of Malawi, Mozambique And Tanzania. It Is A Part Of African Great Lakes And Is The Southernmost Lake In The East African Rift System.
Covering Approximately 29,600 Square Kilometers In Total Surface Area, It Is The 9th Largest Lake In The World By Area And The 3rd Largest In Africa. The Lake Is Roughly 560 Km Long And 75 Km Wide At Its Widest Point, And Has An Total Water Volume Of 8400 Cubic Kilometer, Which Makes It The Fifth Largest Fresh Water Lake In The World By Water Volume.
Lake Malawi Is One Of The Main Rift Valley Lakes, Along With Lake Victoria And Lake Tanganyika, And Is Situated In A Valley Created By The East African Rift System, A Place Where The African Tectonic Plate Is Splitting Into Two Parts, Due To Diverging Plate Tectonics. Because Of This, Two New Tectonic Plates Are Forming ,which Are Somali Plate And The Nubian Plate.
Lake Malawi Has An Average Of Depth Of 264 Meters, With A Maximum Depth Of 706 Meters, Which Makes It The Second Deepest Lake In Africa After Lake Tanganyika.
Several Small And Big Rivers Drain Into Lake Malawi, Rivers Such As Ruhuhu, Songwe, Rukuru, Dwangwa, Bua, And Linthipe River Flow Into The Lake , While The Only River That Flows Out Of The Lake Is The Shire River, Which Is The Largest River In Malawi, And Flows Across A Length Of Roughly 400km Before Merging, Into The Zambezi River.
Lake Malawi Is Home To More Species Of Fish Than Any Other Lake In The World
Lake Malawi Is Home To The Highest Number Of Fish Species Of Any Lake In The World, Roughly A 1000 Species Of Fish Are Found In The Lake, With 90 Percent Of Those Fishes Are Being Cichlids, That Are Only Found In This Lake In This Lake.

Framed by Malawi, Tanzania and Mosambique, Lake Malawi in the heart of Africa is situated at the southern end of East Africa’s Rift Valley. It extends more than six hundred kilometres from north to south, is up to eighty kilometres wide and in some sections is over seven hundred metres deep.Cichlids, the living jewels of Lake Malawi, are highly sought after among aquatic fish enthusiasts. The brightly-coloured males achieve the highest prices in both Europe and the U.S.A. Diving just off the coast is like being in a gigantic aquarium and around a thousand species of dazzling cichlids inhabit the rocky reefs around various islands. It is not necessary to dive deep to observe the Malawi cichlids as the most colourful varieties are to be found just below the surface. In the depths, strange craters rise from the muddy seabed. Some have a diameter of more than two metres and are one metre high. They are not volcanoes but the leks of male cichlids. The tiny fish spend months building the leks so as to make a good impression on passing females. Lake Malawi, the ‘Lake Of Stars’, is a paradise of nature where in 1980 the southern section became the first national park in the world to be used for the conservation of freshwater fish.

Malawi was a predecessor to the modern-day Republic of Malawi. It existed between 1964 and 1966. When British rule ended in 1964, by the Malawi Independence Act 1964, the Nyasaland Protectorate, formerly a constituent of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, became an independent sovereign state. The British monarch was head of state and Malawi shared the sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, with the other Commonwealth realms. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of Malawi, Sir Glyn Smallwood Jones (6 July 1964 – 6 July 1966).Elizabeth II did not reside in or visit Malawi in the 1960s but she did visit in 1979 (22–25 July).
Hastings Banda held office as prime minister (and head of government). Following the abolition of the monarchy, the Republic of Malawi came into existence on 6 July 1966 and Banda became the first President of Malawi.

Hastings Kamuzu Banda (c. 1898 – 25 November 1997) was the leader of Malawi from 1964 to 1994. In 1966, the country became a republic and he became the first president as a result, ruling until his defeat in 1994.
After receiving much of his education in ethnography, linguistics, history, and medicine overseas, Banda returned to Nyasaland to speak against colonialism and advocate independence from the United Kingdom. He was formally appointed Prime Minister of Nyasaland, and led the country to independence in 1964.[5]
Two years later, he proclaimed Malawi a republic with himself as the first president. He consolidated power and later declared Malawi a one-party state under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). In 1970, the MCP made him the party's President for Life. In 1971, he became president for Life of Malawi itself. A renowned anti-communist leader in Africa, he received support from the Western Bloc during the Cold War.[6] He generally supported women's rights, improved the country's infrastructure and barely maintained a good educational system relative to other African countries.[7] However, he presided over one of the most repressive regimes in Africa, an era that saw political opponents regularly tortured and murdered.[8][9][10] Human rights groups estimate that at least 6,000 people were killed, tortured and jailed without trial.[11] As many as 18,000 people were killed during his rule, according to one estimate.[12][13] His rule has been characterised as a "highly repressive autocracy."[14] He received criticism for maintaining full diplomatic relations with the apartheid government in South Africa.
By 1993, amid increasing domestic and international pressure, he agreed to hold a referendum which ended the one-party system. Soon afterwards, a special assembly ended his life-term presidency and stripped him of most of his powers. Banda ran for president in the democratic elections that followed and was defeated. He died in South Africa on 25 November 1997.
Early life
Kamuzu Banda was born Akim Kamnkhwala Mtunthama Banda near Kasungu in Malawi (then British Central Africa) to Mphonongo Banda and Akupingamnyama Phiri. His date of birth is unknown, as it took place when there was no birth registration documentation, but Banda himself often gave his date of birth as 14 May 1906. Later, when presented with evidence of certain tribal customs by a friend, Dr Donal Brody, Banda said: "No one knows the hour, the date, the month or the year in which I was born, although I now accept the evidence that you give me – March or April 1898."[15]
He left his village school near Mtunthama for his maternal grandparents' home and attended Chayamba Primary School in Chikondwa. In 1908, he moved to Chilanga mission station and was baptised in 1910.[16]
The name Kamnkhwala, meaning "little medicine", was replaced with Kamuzu, which means "little root". The name Kamuzu was given to him because he was conceived after his mother had been given root herbs by a medicine man to cure infertility.[17] He took the Christian name of Hastings after being baptised into the Church of Scotland by Dr George Prentice, a Scot, in 1910, naming himself after John Hastings, a Scottish missionary working near his village whom he admired. The prefix "doctor" was earned through his education.[17]
Around 1915–16, he left home on foot with Hanock Msokera Phiri, an uncle who had been a teacher at the nearby Livingstonia mission school, for Hartley, Southern Rhodesia (now Chegutu, Zimbabwe). He apparently wanted to enroll at the famous Scottish Presbyterian Lovedale Missionary Institute in South Africa but completed his Standard 8 education without studying there.
In 1917, he left on foot for Johannesburg in South Africa. He worked at the Witwatersrand Deep Mine on the Transvaal Reef for several years. During this time, he met Bishop William Tecumseh Vernon of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) who offered to pay his tuition fee at a Methodist school in the United States if he could pay his own passage.[17] In 1925, he left for New York.

This is a plenary lecture by Professor Murphy entitled 'Time Come? The Persistence and Future of the Commonwealth Realms', which was prepared for the conference on 'The Crown in the 21st Century', which took place in Government House in Victoria, Canada from 14-16 January 2016.
Unforeseen circumstances meant that Professor Murphy was not able to attend the conference in person. In the lecture, he seeks to explain why so few Commonwealth Realms have made the transition to republics over the previous 40 years, examining the constitutional and political obstacles in the way of republicanism.

Johnson Suleman (born 24 March 1971) is a Nigerian televangelist and the senior pastor and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, a church with its headquarters in Auchi, Edo State. After working as an assistant pastor in the Armor of God Church in Lagos from 1998, he started Omega Fire Ministries in 2004.

His parents refused to listen further because they were Muslims and did not see the possibility of their son leaving their fold. As the young Johnson began to grow, his parents noticed that he was a bit strange in the way he did his things.
He had a soft spot for the things of God, even while he was going to the mosque with his father; he knew he was not on the right path. He was in Auchi his hometown for his secondary education and encountered CHRIST but pressures mounted on him made him to withdraw for a little while. But he returned to Benin where he finally reconnected with DESTINY. He started moving out with the brethren for evangelism and prayers.
On June 20th, 1994, he had a revelation; the image of the globe was being given to him with Acts 10:38 written on it. Prior to this time, he had read through the entire Bible three times because his thirst for God was insatiable but all through his study, he had not given special attention to Acts 10:38. He was so shocked when he recovered from the vision and checked out what the scriptures reveals. "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him" --- Acts 10:38. That was when he understood the Mandate given to him by God to take the gospel around the world with a Power Ministry
