Stewart Francis is a Canadian stand-up comedian, actor and writer. In addition to his work in Canada and the US, he regularly tours in the UK and appears on British television. Both of Francis' parents are British.

Career

Stewart delivers a deadpan performance with many one-liners.

Stewart has headlined all over North America and the United Kingdom, and performed in numerous venues worldwide, including Hong Kong, South Africa, and throughout Europe.

On 6 June 2009 he performed on the Edinburgh section of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow.

Within October he started performing his first British stand-up tour with "The Tour de Francis".

Stewart was the warm-up act for Ricky Gervais as part of his new tour, Science, performing in such places as Richmond Theatre, New Theatre, Oxford, Manchester Apollo and the O2 Arena in Dublin in late 2009 and early 2010.

He has also made 7 appearances on popular British panel show Mock The Week.

He appeared on Live at the Apollo on 9 December 2010.

Acting

Stewart starred as a series regular on ''An American in Canada'' and also acted in ''Kevin Hill''. In 2007, he appeared in an episode of the BBC sitcom ''Not Going Out'' as Hillary Allison (The producers said in an interview that he had been considered for the part of recurring character Guy, but rejected because he was too young and given this role instead). He also made a brief appearance in ''The Omid Djalili Show''.

Writing

Stewart has written for ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'', ''The Gemini Awards'' and ''Puppets Who Kill'', as well as having his work published in ''The Hockey News''.

Television work

In the US he's a regular guest on ''The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'' and he was the host of trivia game show ''You Bet Your Ass''. In the UK, his TV appearances include ''The Comedy Store'', ''Mock the Week'', ''8 out of 10 Cats'', ''The Big Stage'', ''For One Night Only'', and ''Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow''. After his first appearance on Mock the Week as an almost unknown, he was so successful he was asked back three more times in the series that followed, making him a website favourite to replace Frankie Boyle. In 2010 Stewart appeared in a special Children in Need episode of ''Mastermind (TV series)'' where his specialist subject was the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Lee Gordon McKillop (born 4 August 1968) is an English stand-up comedian and actor, known by the stage name Lee Mack. He is well known in the United Kingdom for writing and starring in the sitcom ''Not Going Out'', for being a team captain on ''Would I Lie To You?'' and for hosting ''Lee Mack's All Star Cast''.

Personal life

Mack was born on 4 August 1968 and lived in Southport, then in Lancashire and now in Merseyside above a pub until he was 12 when his parents separated and he moved to Blackburn, Lancashire. He went to Birkdale County Junior School and Stanley High School. After leaving school he worked in a bingo hall and as a stableboy where after working there for three days he asked if he could try and ride a horse, the trainer agreed and the first horse he ever rode was Red Rum. After that, Mack became a blue coat for Pontin's at Hemsby near Great Yarmouth. After appearing on stage drunk one night, and calling an audience member a "cunt", he was sacked from the Hemsby team, and did six months at Pontins in Morecambe.

Mack went on to have various other jobs, and did his first open mike slot in 1994, while studying at Brunel University. Within 18 months he was a full time comedian.

Mack lives in Hammersmith, West London, with his wife, Tara and their children, Arlo (born 2004) and Louie (born 2006).

In February 2009 Mack, with other British entertainers, signed an open letter to ''The Times'' on the Bahá'í leaders then on trial in Iran.

Lee Mack said in an interview with ''The Guardian'' that he first went into comedy by doing Bobby Ball impressions at his school when he was 15.

Lee is a supporter of Blackburn Rovers and often visits Ewood Park to watch games.

Career

Mack first came to prominence on winning ''So You Think You're Funny'' at the 1995 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since then Mack has played the part of Graham, the security guard in the original radio version of ''The Mighty Boosh'', and also has his own radio show on BBC Radio 2 called ''The Lee Mack Show'', which features a different celebrity co-hosting the show. He was a cast member for ITV's ''The Sketch Show''.

In 2005 Mack presented ''They Think It's All Over'', a sports based comedy panel game, formerly presented by Nick Hancock. However, it proved to be the show's final series. In 2007 he appeared on ''TV Heaven, Telly Hell''.

His first sitcom ''Not Going Out'' for BBC One with Tim Vine (in which he plays Lee, the central character) premièred on 6 October 2006. The show has since returned for a second series (September 2007), a third series (January 2009) and a fourth series (February 2011). It will be returning for a fifth and sixth series, which has been confirmed. It has won a Rose d'Or and RTS Award. He is a team captain on the BBC One panel show ''Would I Lie To You?''. He has also been guest host on ''Have I Got News for You'' 4 times, on 23 May 2008, 12 June 2009, 1 April 2010 and finally 2 December 2010. He was guest host on ''Never Mind The Buzzcocks'' on 9 December 2010. Mack has also contributed to Comic Relief.

Mack went on tour in 2006 and filmed his first live DVD at the Bloomsbury Theatre, which was released the following year.

Mack went on tour again in Spring 2010 entitled the "Going Out" tour, extra dates have been added for Autumn 2010 due to his Spring tour being sold out well in advance, his second live DVD was filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo and was released in November entitled "Going Out Live". Other notable venues of the tour included the Gulbenkian Theatre, the Blackpool Tower, Brighton Dome, Alexandra Theatre. And also a performance at the Longacre Theatre in New York City.

In Winter 2010 he performed at the Royal Variety Performance.

In June 2011, he launched a new show entitled Lee Mack's All Star Cast for the BBC. It features members of the audience taking part in silly games to get a spot in a sketch at the end of the show.

Timothy "Tim" Mark Vine (born 4 March 1967 in Cheam, Surrey) is an English actor, writer and comedian. He has released a number of DVD's of his stand-up comedy, as well as starring in the successful series "Not Going Out" with Lee Mack on the BBC. He won the award for best joke at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2010, and for the second best in August 2011.

Career

Stand up

His stand-up act consists primarily of a series of quick-fire one-liners and puns. Vine has appeared regularly at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with shows such as ''The Tim Vine Shambles'' and ''The Tim Vine Fiasco'' which won him the Perrier newcomer award in 1995. In 2006, he had a large advertising hoarding erected featuring his name and image, with a small sub-heading "...is not appearing at this year's Edinburgh Festival" Vine appeared at the Pleasance Courtyard for the first two weeks of the 2008 Edinburgh Festival Fringe performing a show entitled ''Punslinger''.

He appeared at the Spring Harvest festival in 2007 and 2008 alongside John Archer at Skegness and Minehead, and at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in May 2007 for a show entitled ''Tim Vine, Live in Concrete''.

Vine has in the past been the warm up act for his best friend, comedian Lee Mack, during his 2007 UK tour.

Vine has taken his comedy act on a tour of the United Kingdom, in tours such as ''Current Puns'' in 2006 and ''Punslinger'' in 2008. In July 2008, he recorded a performance at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London, which was released as a new DVD entitled ''So I Said To This Bloke...'' on 27 October 2008. His third tour, ''The Joke-amotive'', took place from November 2009 till March 2010.

Many of Vine's jokes have been falsely attributed to Tommy Cooper; the West End show about Tommy Cooper actually features some of Vine's jokes.

World record

On 7 October 2004, Vine broke the Guinness World Record for the most jokes told in an hour with 499, beating the previous record of 362. Each joke told by Vine had to get a laugh from the paying audience to count towards the record. He held the record until May 2005, when Australian comedian, Anthony "Lehmo" Lehmann told 549 jokes.

Television

Vine co-launched Channel 5 with Julia Bradbury on 30 March 1997 and presented the game show ''Whittle'' on the channel. Vine has also presented the game show ''Fluke'' on Channel 4, ''Housemates'' on BBC One and ''Fort Boyard Takes on the World'' on Challenge. He also appeared on a celebrity edition of ''Fort Boyard'' as a contestant on Challenge.

Vine was also one of the regular team of comedians to write for and appear in the ITV comedy series ''The Sketch Show'', which went on to win a BAFTA.

In 2005 he appeared alongside other celebrities in ''Spelling Bee'' on ITV1. Tim appeared as a contestant on ''Comic Relief does Fame Academy'' in 2007, but was voted out on 9 March.

In 2006 Tim Vine starred alongside fellow comedian Lee Mack in sitcom ''Not Going Out''. The show became very popular among fans of Vine and Mack's deadpan style; it has completed three series and returned for a fourth in 2011 on BBC1, although Vine has announced he wants to quit the show. This was believed to be the case until Tim Vine took part in an interview with television channel Dave during which he confirmed that a fifth and sixth series are now being written. The sixth series has been commissioned, even though the fifth series has yet to be filmed.

In September 2007, Vine appeared with his brother Jeremy on the celebrity version of ITV1's ''Who Wants to be a Millionaire'' where they raised £1000 for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund. On 1 January 2009, Vine appeared on ''Celebrity Mastermind'', choosing Elvis Presley as his specialist subject. He went on to secure first place with a score of 28 points, donating his prize money to the Cure Parkinson's Trust.

From 20 April 2009, Vine began a week-long first appearance in Dictionary Corner on ''Countdown'', returning for further week-long stints on 22 June 2009, 9 November 2009, 28 June 2010, 10 January 2011 and in June 2011.

Vine made an appearance on the Australian soap ''Neighbours'' broadcast in Australia on 28 July 2009 and in the UK on 29 September 2009.

He appeared as a guest comedian on ''Live at the Apollo'' on 18 December 2009 on BBC1.

He also appeared on a celebrity edition of Total Wipeout which aired on 26 December 2009.

In the 2006 edition of Channel 4's '100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians' he was voted 100th, however in the 2010 updated list he was voted 36th.

He also made an appearance on Soccer AM, alongside Pixie Lott and Jamie O'Hara and on 12 February 2011 he appeared on children's TV show Dick and Dom.

Music

His musical talent, aside from the comedy songs in his act, includes playing the guitar, piano and drums. He has released an album of non-comedy songs, which he sells at pretendpopstar.co.uk.

Vine is a Christian and occasionally plays the drums at his church. He was in several bands, including The Flared Generation with brother Jeremy Vine. Both Tim and Jeremy Vine were educated at Epsom College in Surrey.

Podcast

In December 2007, Vine launched his first podcast, 'Tim Vine Celebrates'. The first episode "Tim Vine Celebrates... Christmas" was released free on 19 December and introduces many previously unheard jokes and humorous songs, as well as an array of comedy characters, mostly voiced by Vine.

Fringe award

In August 2010, Vine won the prize for the funniest joke of that year's Edinburgh Fringe, following a public vote from a judged shortlist. His winning joke was "I've just been on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. I'll tell you what, never again."

On 25 August 2011, Vine won the prize for the second funniest joke at the Edinburgh Fringe festival. His joke was "Crime in multi-storey car parks. That is wrong on so many different levels." He was beaten by Nick Helm (returning to the Fringe for only the second time).

Personal life

Tim Vine is the younger brother of Jeremy Vine, author, journalist and BBC Radio 2 presenter. Vine is a Christian and lives in Fulham, London.

Lt. Horatio Caine is a fictional character in the CBS crime drama ''CSI: Miami'', portrayed by David Caruso. He is currently head of the crime lab, under the rank of Lieutenant of the MDPD.

Fictional character biography

Born in 1957, Caine's parents named him after author Horatio Alger. Before he moved to Miami, Caine worked in New York City as detective with the NYPD. It was there that he killed the man who murdered his mother: his own father. In 1995, while on the job, he was stabbed while investigating a case in which children were locked in closets while their parents were murdered. The perpetrator, Walter Resden, harbored a deep grudge against Caine, collecting the blood from the stabbing and preserving it for 10 years in order to frame him for the murder of Caine's girlfriend, Rachel Turner.

After his arrival in Florida, Horatio joined the Miami-Dade Police as a homicide detective but later transferred to the bomb squad, where he was mentored by Al Humphries, an older cop whom Caine highly respected and considered a good friend; Humphries was later killed after accidentally triggering a bomb he was attempting to disarm. Horatio worked undercover as "John Walden" in Pensacola, Florida for sometime during the early 1990s (this is the date given on the show, despite the fact it was previously understood on the show that Horatio worked in New York until at least 1995). During his time there, he dated a woman he believed to be named Julia Eberlie, and the two conceived a son named Kyle. Horatio would not be aware of Kyle's existence for another sixteen years. Sometime later he returns to Miami and to being a detective, in "Out Of Time" he references previously working on the bomb squad. Finally, Caine moved to the Crime Lab, accepting a promotion to lieutenant, which earned him the animosity of Sergeant Rick Stetler, who was also vying for the rank. When veteran CSI Megan Donner went on personal leave following the death of her husband, Horatio became the permanent head of the lab. Caine is known for regularly wearing sunglasses; one of his trademarks is to put them on prior to making a dramatized remark.

In 9th season finale Horatio is shot down, and co-worker Natalia Boa Vista is kidnapped and put in the trunk of a car by Randy North, a man helped convicted felon Jack Toller after was threatened to lose his kids by Toller. While Randy is pointing a gun at Natalia's face, she is trying to talk him out of doing something bad. North said "That's what everybody has told me!", and then closes the trunk with Natalia inside and pushes it off the pier. After North pushes the car away, Horatio gains ability to attempt to shoot North, but was unsuccessful. Horatio is unable to stand and attempt stop the car with Natalia inside. Natalia uses her cell phone to call for help, but nobody answers as water drips over her. Natalia and Horatio's status is unknown until the Season 10 premiere on September 25th.

Head of the day shift crime lab

In the CSI continuum, Caine is a day shift supervisor at the Miami-Dade crime lab, a forensic analyst and former homicide detective and bomb squad officer (his forensic specialty is arson and explosion evidence). He is very protective of his team, who affectionately call him "H." He is very concerned about the reputation of his lab, and takes great care to keep them clean, perhaps because of his experience with his tarnished younger brother, Ray. When his staff fall under suspicion in several episodes ("One of Our Own", "Internal Affairs"), he immediately jumps in their defense, especially from IA investigator Rick Stetler, and tries his best to prove their innocence.

Past events

Unlike his counterpart in Las Vegas, now former CSI Supervisor Gil Grissom (''CSI: Crime Scene Investigation''), he is a commissioned police officer, and thus carries a badge and gun. A superb marksman, Caine doesn't hesitate to use deadly force when needed. He is also an ardent advocate of the death penalty for particularly heinous crimes, and doesn't think twice about threatening suspects with it in such cases. In the first two seasons, Caine carried a Beretta Cougar on the job. Since the beginning of season three, he has been shown carrying a SIG-Sauer P229. He is very insistent on gun maintenance, especially since team member Tim Speedle was killed in a shootout after his gun misfired because of the lack of maintenance. In fact, one of the reasons for Caine's nearly on-the-spot selection of Officer Ryan Wolfe as Tim Speedle's replacement (in episode 303, "Under the Influence") is Wolfe's compulsive care of his firearm due to OCD.

He is later forced to fire Wolfe, as the younger CSI compromised himself during the course of the investigation due to his gambling debts and lack of honesty regarding the situation (episode 522, "Burned"). Wolfe also previously violated protocol. Caine indicates a willingness to allow Wolfe to redeem himself, however, and possibly allow him to return to the team after reviewing all the files from his previous cases (episode 523, "Kill Switch").

At the end of Season 2 (episode 223, "MIA/NYC — Nonstop"), Caine travels to New York City in pursuit of a murder suspect and meets Detective Mac Taylor and his team, inaugurating the first season of ''CSI: NY''. Caine later reunites with Detective Taylor and the New York CSIs to track down and arrest the murderer, Henry Darius, who would be extradited to Florida to face the death penalty (''CSI: Miami'' episode 407, "Felony Flight," ''CSI: NY'' episode 207, "Manhattan Manhunt"). This appearance would make Horatio Caine the first character to appear at least once in all three CSI shows.

He has many recurring enemies throughout the series, from serial killer Walter Resden to abusive Internal Affairs Agent Rick Stetler to corrupt judge Joseph Ratner. Some he thought put away for good come back to haunt him. Clavo Cruz, serving a life sentence for murdering a woman (episode 201, "Blood Brothers," episode 315, "Identity"), escapes custody in a dramatic rocket attack on a courthouse (superficially injuring coroner Alexx Woods). Cruz then kidnaps a court stenographer and forces Horatio to bring him $1 million dollars in exchange for her location. It is all a set-up, however, and Caine and Delko are ambushed on the roof of a parking garage. Though Horatio shoots down one man and escapes without injury, Delko is critically wounded even as Caine fires at the fleeing gunmen (episode 514, "No Man's Land"). Horatio eventually forces Cruz out of hiding by removing all his avenues of escape. Cruz approaches Horatio outside the Miami-Dade Crime Lab, and Caine kills Clavo with a single shot to the chest (episode 515, "Man Down").

Caine finds himself targeted by the son of Argento, a crime lord whom he helped put in jail some years earlier. After Caine's vehicle is vandalized, the young man smugly denies culpability. Horatio walks headlong into a trap and is shot at by the son. However, the rounds from his gun were replaced with blanks, Caine leaves without injury and the son is arrested afterward (episode 602, "Cyber-lebrity").

In the episode "Bone Voyage", when Raymond Langston comes to help Horatio and his team, he mentions about deceased CSI Warrick Brown, and asks Langston to tell Catherine Willows that he is sorry for their loss.

Recent events

In the end of the Season 8 finale, he receives a shocking message from the man he arrested. The message said: "THEY ALL FALL DOWN". In the Season 9 premiere, he rushes to the crime lab, fearing for the team's lives. When he got out of the elevator, he finds everyone down and Eric still awake. Eric then tells him to shoot the window for oxygen. After Horatio does so, everyone gets up, except for Jesse Cardoza, who died during his fall. Horatio then tries to comfort the devastated Natalia Boa Vista, who unsuccessfully attempted to revive him. Horatio then joins the team on a game of basketball, in honor of Jesse at the end of the episode after they find the killer.

In "See No Evil" a large prison break occurs and one of the inmates (Joe LeBrock) states that they were planning on targeting Caine.

In the episode "Manhunt", he and the team track down Memmo Fierro, the man who was serving time for killing Marisol (Horatio's wife and Eric's sister) after he is one of the eight people who broke out in the previous episode. Memmo (under orders of Antonio Riaz of the Mala Noche) had shot Marisol then blocked the ambulance, trying to get Caine to come out, forcing the ambulance to drive over a center median (at the hospital, a doctor states that the car was worse than the bullet). Both the shooting and the blocking proved fatal to Marisol. At the end of the episode, Memmo takes a hostage, his daughter's social worker. Eric has a clear shot of him, but Horatio tells him not to shoot him in front of Memmo's daughter. After Memmo sees his daughter, he leaves with the hostage, who is later found dead.

In "Happy Birthday" Horatio is seen driving at the beginning of the episode with a bouquet of flowers on the passenger seat and leaves Eric a message on his phone asking him to take over for him a while so he can run an errand. He is distracted by a pedestrian who informs him a pregnant woman has been assaulted on the side of the road. Leaving his errand behind, he helps the woman and spends the rest of the episode looking for the people who did this to her while the mother and the baby are fighting for their life back in the hospital. At the end the episode the mother gives birth to a baby girl and we see Horatio at Marisol's grave and tells her the baby is "beautiful just like you". He then wishes her happy birthday.

In "Last Stand", Memmo returns with a gang of drug cartels, and Caine lays a trap for him, alone. Caine kicks Memmo multiple times and holds him at gunpoint. Memmo states to him that killing his wife was not personal, but Caine responds it was to him. Memmo asks if what Caine is doing is "righteous" and if he is at peace with his decision. Caine responds he is, and places him under arrest, and waits for backup to arrive.
