The Air National Guard (ANG), also known as the Air Guard, is a federal military reserve force as well as the militia air force of each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It, along with each state's Army National Guard component, makes up the National Guard of each state and the districts, commonwealths and territories as applicable.
When Air National Guard units are used under the jurisdiction of the State Governor they are fulfilling their militia role. However, if federalized by order of the President of the United States, ANG units become an active part of the United States Air Force. They are jointly administered by the states and the National Guard Bureau, a joint bureau of the Army and Air Force that oversees the National Guard of the United States.
Air National Guard units are organized and federally recognized federal military reserve forces in each of the fifty U.S. states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia of the United States. Each state, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico each have a minimum of one ANG flying unit with either assigned aircraft or aircraft shared with a unit of the active duty Air Force under an "Associate" arrangement. The ANG of the territories of Guam and the Virgin Islands have no aircraft assigned and perform ground support functions. Air National Guard activities may be located on active duty air force bases, air reserve bases, naval air stations/joint reserve bases, or air national guard bases and stations which are either independent military facilities or collocated as tenants on civilian-controlled joint civil-military airports.
The Federated Auto Parts 400 is an annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia, the other one being the Toyota Owners 400, Since 2004, the race has served as the last race in NASCAR's "regular season". Following the race, the top sixteen drivers in points standings advance to the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Starting in 1991, the race was moved from Sunday afternoon to Saturday night. It became the second night race on the NASCAR schedule, following Bristol which takes place a few weeks earlier.
From 2000–2009, the race was sponsored in some form by Chevrolet. For 2001 and 2002, the race sponsorship was in conjunction with Warner Bros., with Looney Tunes characters featured in several cars' paint jobs. For the 2003-2009 races the race was known as the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 and various cars were painted to promote various rock music acts. The 2010 race saw the sponsorship move from Chevrolet to the Air National Guard, a branch of the United States Air Force. The race was sponsored by Roll Global through its Wonderful Pistachios brand, a division of Roll Global subsidiary Paramount Nuts in 2011. On May 2, 2012, Federated Auto Parts and Richmond International Raceway announced that Federated Auto Parts will be the race's sponsor starting in 2012 and ending in 2014.
The 2010 Air Guard was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on September 11, 2010 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. Contested over 400 laps, it was the twenty-sixth and final race leading into the Chase for the Sprint Cup in the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season. The race was won by Denny Hamlin, for the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Kyle Busch finished second, and Jimmie Johnson, who started eleventh, clinched third.
There were three cautions and fourteen lead changes among six different drivers throughout the course of the race. It was Denny Hamlin's sixth win of the season and the fifteenth of his career. The result of having six wins moved him into first in the Drivers' Championship, ten ahead of Jimmie Johnson and thirty ahead of Kevin Harvick to begin the 2010 Chase for the Sprint Cup. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, twenty-nine ahead of Toyota and sixty-eight ahead of Ford, with ten races remaining in the season. A total of 95,000 people attended the race, while 5.288 million watched it on television.
Richmond International Raceway (RIR) is a 3/4-mile (1.2 km), D-shaped, asphalt race track located just outside Richmond, Virginia in Henrico County. It hosts the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Xfinity Series. Known as "America's premier short track", it formerly hosted a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, an IndyCar Series race, and two USAC sprint car races.
Richmond International Raceway is one of several race tracks to host all of its events at night. The track sold out 33 consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. The sellout streak ended in September 2008 partially due to the economic downturn, though the major factor in ticket sales was the impact of Tropical Storm Hanna.
Richmond has hosted the final "regular-season" race, leading up to the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, each year since the concept was introduced in 2004.
In 2010, Richmond International Raceway introduced a state-of-the-art video scoring tower that boasts more LED square footage than any other in the motorsports industry. The cap features four high definition LED screens that measure 38-feet wide by 24-feet high. The screens broadcast live race action and pre-produced video and graphics. The stem shows running order and has the ability to rotate through the entire field.

The Ultra Heavy-Lift Amphibious Connector (UHAC) begins to rotate on the beach, July 9, at Marine Corps Training Area Bellows on Oahu, Hawaii during a Marine Corps Advanced Warfighting Experiment. The AWE is the culmination of a decade of progressive experimentation conducted by the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL) where they are testing potential future technologies, solutions and concepts to future Marine Air Ground Task Force challenges. The AWE is taking part during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014. Lt. Col. Don Gordon, the current technology officer at MCWL, said the UHAC is one of those experimental technologies that displays a possible capability of being able to insert Marines in areas where current technology wouldn't be able to insert them based on current systems...
Long-range reconnaissance patrols, or LRRPs (pronounced "Lurps"), are small, heavily armed long-range reconnaissance teams that patrol deep in enemy-held territory. n December 1965, the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, formed a LRRP platoon, and by April 1966, the 1st Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade formed LRRP units as well. On 8 July 1966, General William Westmoreland authorized the formation of a (LRRP) unit in each infantry brigade or division in Vietnam. By 1967 formal LRRP companies were organized, most having three platoons, each with five six-man teams equipped with VHF/FM AN/PRC-25 radios. LRRP training was notoriously rigorous and team leaders were often graduates of the U.S. Army's 5th Special Forces Recondo School in Nha Trang, Vietn...

On this episode of Engine Masters presented by Amsoil, find out if you can stuff 25 psi of boost into a cast-piston, stock-crank short-block and have it live! Watch as we strap a ProCharger centrifugal supercharger to a bone-stock Chevy 350 bottom end and keep stepping up the boost to find the breaking point. But there’s a hitch: At the start, we agreed we’d let the engine live if it could make 750 hp and survive. So did we leave parts on the floor, or did we make stupid power with a foolish combo? We’ll tell you this much now—we did the best we could to show you blow-through boost tuning by keeping the ignition timing and the air/fuel ratio very conservative while also using Rockett Brand 118-octane fuel to prevent detonation. Engine Masters is supported by Mr. Gasket, Earl’s Vapor Guard,...

Camouflage: A Great Military Tactic - History Documentary Films Ship camouflage was periodically utilized in ancient times. Philostratus (c. 172-- 250 AD) composed in his Imagines that Mediterranean pirate ships might be repainted blue-gray for concealment. Vegetius (c. 360-- 400 AD) says that "Venetian blue" (sea green) was utilized in the Gallic Wars, when Julius Caesar sent his speculatoria navigia (reconnaissance watercrafts) to gather intelligence along the coast of Britain. The ships were painted entirely in bluish-green wax, with sails, ropes and staff the very same colour. There is little evidence of armed forces usage of camouflage on land before 1800, but 2 unusual ceramics reveal guys in Peru's Mochica society from before 500 AD, searching birds with blowpipes which are suited ...
An interesting documentary about US Air force recruits going though boot camp. The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven American uniformed services. Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on 18 September 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947.[7] It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces. The USAF articulates its core functions as Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recovery, Global Precision Attack, Building P...
Collection of the Computer History Museum. The event was recorded May 19, 1998. In 1963, the last of 22 SAGE command centers was completed by contractors IBM, Western Electric, The RAND Corporation, and Burroughs. At a cost of $8 billion (1964 dollars), this vastly complex technological system, an outgrowth of MIT Lincoln Labs' Whirlwind II computer, represented the state of the art in strategic doctrine and computer systems design. Each one of the 22 SAGE command centers used over 49,000 vacuum tubes, weighed 250 tons, and consumed 3,000,000 watts of power. The SAGE system linked these command centers into a technopolitical "shield" against Soviet strategic bomber attack. From a stark social context of high Cold War tensions emerged impressive technical advances in hardware and softwa...

Is your brand new DJI Spark drone not taking photos in gesture control? See video to fix. The Spark is one of the best vacation and selfie drone currently available. This is due to its small unobtrusive size and ability to get in the air rapidly to take photos/videos. But it does have some issues, and yes uncorrected bugs, that you'll need to be aware of to use properly. In this video, I review the features that are specific to the Spark, and how to use them. Buy the Spark here, and use coupon code DJIP3 for savings https://goo.gl/tuAuoh I really like the Spark. It's a fantastic vacation drone, and I've been using it a lot while I'm currently on vacation.
