Petter (rapper)
Petter Alexis Askergren, (born 25 May 1974), who simply uses his given name Petter as a stage name, is a rap artist from Stockholm, Sweden, rapping in Swedish. He debuted in 1998 with the album Mitt sjätte sinne (My Sixth Sense), which became a success and started the Swedish hip hop boom in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He owns a record company called Bananrepubliken (English: The Banana Republic). He also studied art history at Uppsala University for some time. He has also worked with the famous Norwegian rap producer Tommy Tee several times in his career. Petter also frequently works with Swedish disk jockey Patrik Elofsson who goes by the stage name DJ Sleepy.
Petters lyrics often paints pictures of his hometown Stockholm where he grew up, and he frequently raps about his love to Stockholm. He has become a symbol for Stockholm city and during 2012 he collabrated with the Swedish artist Artan Mansouri in a charity project in the name of the city. The profit was donated to Stockholm stadsmission, which helps homeless people in Stockholm.

Polyphony
In music, polyphony is a texture consisting of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melody, as opposed to a musical texture with just one voice which is called monophony, and in difference from musical texture with one dominant melodic voice accompanied by chords which is called homophony.
Within the context of the Western musical tradition, the term is usually used to refer to music of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Baroque forms such as fugue, which might be called polyphonic, are usually described instead as contrapuntal. Also, as opposed to the species terminology of counterpoint, polyphony was generally either "pitch-against-pitch" / "point-against-point" or "sustained-pitch" in one part with melismas of varying lengths in another. In all cases the conception was probably what Margaret Bent (1999) calls "dyadic counterpoint", with each part being written generally against one other part, with all parts modified if needed in the end. This point-against-point conception is opposed to "successive composition", where voices were written in an order with each new voice fitting into the whole so far constructed, which was previously assumed.

Polyphony (literature)
In literature, polyphony (Russian: полифония) is a feature of narrative, which includes a diversity of points of view and voices. The concept was introduced by Mikhail Bakhtin, using a metaphor based on the musical term polyphony.
For Bakhtin the primary example of polyphony was Dostoevsky's prose. Bakhtin argued that Dostoyevsky, unlike previous novelists, does not appear to aim for a 'single vision' and goes beyond simply describing situations from various angles. Instead, according to Bakhtin, Dostoevsky aimed for fully dramatic novels of ideas in which conflicting views and characters are left to develop unevenly.
In 2015, Svetlana Alexievich was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature «for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time»

Polyphony (choir)
Polyphony is a small English choir formed by Stephen Layton for one particular concert put on in King's College, Cambridge in 1986. They have released many critically acclaimed recordings, the most recent of which is Esenvalds - Passion & Resurrection. They record and perform a wide range of music mainly on Hyperion Records. Every year they perform Handel's Messiah and Bach's St John Passion in St John's Smith Square to sell-out audiences. Many of their recordings have been Gramophone editor's choice.
Including many talented musicians such as Tom Williams (English counter tenor), Polyphony have performed many times in the BBC Proms and performed works by John Tavener on his 60th Birthday in the Barbican as part of its Great Performers series. They have also premiered and released prominent recordings of the music of Arvo Pärt.
Stephen Layton
The director of Polyphony, Stephen Layton founded the choir in 1986 and has directed it since. He is also the director of the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge.

The Chakrulo song, which is sung at ceremonies and festivals and belongs to the first category, is distinguished by its use of metaphor and its yodel, the krimanchuli and a cockerels crow, performed by a male falsetto singer. Some of these songs are linked to the cult of the grapevine and many date back to the eighth century. The songs traditionally pervaded all areas of everyday life, ranging from work in the fields (the Naduri, which incorporates the sounds of physical effort into the music) to songs to curing of illnesses and to Christmas Carols (Alilo). Byzantine liturgical hymns also incorporated the Georgian polyphonic tradition to such an extent that they became a significant expression of it.
Having previously suffered the drawbacks of socialist cultural policies, traditional Georgian music is now threatened by rural exodus as well as by the increasing success of pop music. In many archives one finds recordings of polyphonic songs from the beginning of the twentieth century; these recordings are, however, not secure enough to guarantee the long-term preservation.

What is Polyphony:
Polyphony literally means multi-tonal...and in the case of digital pianos, it refers to the number of tones that the piano can sound at once. If two keys are played at once, that’s a polyphony of “2”. If 5 notes are played, that’s a polyphony of 5. So the maximum polyphony is the maximum notes that can be played at once.
Since we only have 10 fingers to play the piano with, the need for greater polyphony is driven by the use of a sustain pedal, sounds that have longer release times, or layered sound.
A good example would be a piano+strings layer...a very common pairing on digital pianos. Strings have an extremely long release time compared with pianos (when you let go of the note, the sound starts decaying, and takes 1-2 seconds to completely be silenced). So if you were to play a large stacked chord using the sustain pedal, and also play some sustained scalar runs on top of that at the same time, a max polyphony of 64 could easily be hit.
Add a third layer, or have the scalar patterns played throughout the whole range of the instrument with the sustain pedal down, and you might even start to test the 128 polyphony limit.
What happens when you run out of Polyphony?
When that max limit is crossed, the instrument will usually mute the oldest note which isn’t still actively being played on a key. It just goes silent. For casual playing, this is unlikely to cause problems if the instrument has 64 polyphony (or around that range). However, if you are doing any recording, using rhythms, playing back a 16-track MIDI file (Format 1) or even just using layers in some kind of performance, and there are going to be noticeable gaps in the playing, or even critical tones may be missing altogether.
For example, I’ve been in situations where a crash cymbal or bass drum kick on a major bar line was simply not played because I’d maxed out the polyphony, causing me to have to redo the sequence to free up some bandwidth on the tone engine.
Recommendations
If most of what you’ll be doing is ‘piano only’, then 128 max polyphony is going to be enough for your needs. If you could see yourself getting into layering with rhythms on a regular basis, getting something closer to the 192 or 256 would be preferable if the model selection and budget allows for it.

Rendered mainly by male singers, the music traditionally accompanies a wide range of social events, such as weddings, funerals, harvest feasts, religious celebrations and festivals such as the well-known Albanian folk festival in Gjirokastra.
Albanian iso-polyphony is characterized by songs consisting of two solo parts, a melody and a countermelody with a choral drone. The structure of the solo parts varies according to the different ways of performing the drone, which has a great variety of structures, especially in the popular style adopted by all groups performing this music. Over the last few decades, the modest rise of cultural tourism and the growing interest of the research community in this unique folk tradition have contributed to the revival of Albanian iso-polyphony. However, the tradition is adversely affected by poverty, the absence of legal protection and the lack of financial support for practitioners, threatening the transmission of the vast repertoire of songs and techniques. The rural exodus of young people to the bigger cities and abroad in search of jobs compounds this danger. Given these conditions, at the present time, the transmission of this tradition is maintained through professional folk artists, rather than within the family structure.

The musical chapel of the Basilica of St. Mark in Milan offers an anthology of this treasure, which ranges from the pure polyphonies of the fifteenth century to those of absolute perfection of the sixteenth century, to the turgid ones of the nineteenth century, to those of the twentieth century interpreting a our tormented spirit and yet avid for interior simplicity.

Description: Popular singing has a highly valued place in Georgian culture. Polyphonic singing, in the Georgian language, is a secular tradition in a country whose language and culture have often been oppressed by invaders. There are three types of polyphony in Georgia: complex polyphony, which is common in Svaneti; polyphonic dialogue over a bass background, prevalent in the Kakheti region in Eastern Georgia; and contrasted polyphony with three partially improvised sung parts, characteristic of western Georgia. The Chakrulo song, which is sung at ceremonies and festivals and belongs to the first category, is distinguished by its use of metaphor and its yodel, the krimanchuli and a cockerels crow, performed by a male falsetto singer. Some of these songs are linked to the cult of the grapevine and many date back to the eighth century. The songs traditionally pervaded all areas of everyday life, ranging from work in the fields (the Naduri, which incorporates the sounds of physical effort into the music) to songs to curing of illnesses and to Christmas Carols (Alilo). Byzantine liturgical hymns also incorporated the Georgian polyphonic tradition to such an extent that they became a significant expression of it.
Having previously suffered the drawbacks of socialist cultural policies, traditional Georgian music is now threatened by rural exodus as well as by the increasing success of pop music. In many archives one finds recordings of polyphonic songs from the beginning of the twentieth century; these recordings are, however, not secure enough to guarantee the long-term preservation.

overtone singing is a voice technique where it seems like one person sings two notes at the same time. You can sing the overtone scale on one fundamental. Another fundamental has its own overtone scale, so in order to have more overtones to sing nice melodies, you can use different fundamentals and change them while singing.

In this video, Stu Harrison of Merriam Pianos explains what polyphony is, and why you may want to pay attention to it. A pretty high number of digital piano buyers aren’t 100% sure what the specification actually refers to, so we hope this clears it up!

What is Polyphony:
Polyphony literally means multi-tonal...and in the case of digital pianos, it refers to the number of tones that the piano can sound at once. If two keys are played at once, that’s a polyphony of “2”. If 5 notes are played, that’s a polyphony of 5. So the maximum polyphony is the maximum notes that can be played at once.
Since we only have 10 fingers to play the piano with, the need for greater polyphony is driven by the use of a sustain pedal, sounds that have longer release times, or layered sound.
A good example would be a piano+strings layer...a very common pairing on digital pianos. Strings have an extremely long release time compared with pianos (when you let go of the note, the sound starts decaying, and takes 1-2 seconds to completely be silenced). So if you were to play a large stacked chord using the sustain pedal, and also play some sustained scalar runs on top of that at the same time, a max polyphony of 64 could easily be hit.
Add a third layer, or have the scalar patterns played throughout the whole range of the instrument with the sustain pedal down, and you might even start to test the 128 polyphony limit.
What happens when you run out of Polyphony?
When that max limit is crossed, the instrument will usually mute the oldest note which isn’t still actively being played on a key. It just goes silent. For casual playing, this is unlikely to cause problems if the instrument has 64 polyphony (or around that range). However, if you are doing any recording, using rhythms, playing back a 16-track MIDI file (Format 1) or even just using layers in some kind of performance, and there are going to be noticeable gaps in the playing, or even critical tones may be missing altogether.
For example, I’ve been in situations where a crash cymbal or bass drum kick on a major bar line was simply not played because I’d maxed out the polyphony, causing me to have to redo the sequence to free up some bandwidth on the tone engine.
Recommendations
If most of what you’ll be doing is ‘piano only’, then 128 max polyphony is going to be enough for your needs. If you could see yourself getting into layering with rhythms on a regular basis, getting something closer to the 192 or 256 would be preferable if the model selection and budget allows for it.

Description: Traditional Albanian polyphonic music can be divided into two major stylistic groups as performed by the Ghegs of northern Albania and the Tosks and Labs living in the southern part of the country. The term iso is related to the ison of Byzantine church music and refers to the drone accompanying polyphonic singing. The drone is performed in two ways: among the Tosks, it is always continuous and sung on the syllable e, using staggered breathing, while among the Labs, the drone is sometimes sung as a rhythmic tone, performed to the text of the song. Rendered mainly by male singers, the music traditionally accompanies a wide range of social events, such as weddings, funerals, harvest feasts, religious celebrations and festivals such as the well-known Albanian folk festival in Gjirokastra.
Albanian iso-polyphony is characterized by songs consisting of two solo parts, a melody and a countermelody with a choral drone. The structure of the solo parts varies according to the different ways of performing the drone, which has a great variety of structures, especially in the popular style adopted by all groups performing this music. Over the last few decades, the modest rise of cultural tourism and the growing interest of the research community in this unique folk tradition have contributed to the revival of Albanian iso-polyphony. However, the tradition is adversely affected by poverty, the absence of legal protection and the lack of financial support for practitioners, threatening the transmission of the vast repertoire of songs and techniques. The rural exodus of young people to the bigger cities and abroad in search of jobs compounds this danger. Given these conditions, at the present time, the transmission of this tradition is maintained through professional folk artists, rather than within the family structure.
