In geography, a marsh, or morass, is a type of wetland that is subject to frequent or continuous flood. Typically the water is shallow and features grasses, rushes, reeds, typhas, sedges, other herbaceous plants, and moss.
Woody plants will be low-growing shrubs. A marsh is different from a swamp, which has a greater proportion of open water surface and may be deeper than a marsh. In North America, the term "swamp" is used for wetland dominated by trees rather than grasses and low herbs.

In May 2007, the website Marry Me Jodie Marsh was launched with the teaser "I'm getting married this September... Only problem is that I don't have a man!". Men were invited to submit an application for a series of open auditions for the chance to marry Marsh that September. MTV filmed the search and subsequent wedding.
The reality series featuring Marsh entitled ''Totally Jodie Marsh: Who'll Take Her Up the Aisle?'', premiered in July 2007 documenting Marsh's search to find a husband. Marsh eventually chose Matt Peacock, an ex-boyfriend of fellow glamour model Jordan.
In the final episode of the show, MTV executives confronted Marsh and Peacock with taped footage of Peacock's audition claiming he and Marsh had been dating for months and living together for three months, contrary to the show's claims. After the MTV executives left the room, Peacock accused Marsh of lying to MTV.
The couple married on 1 September 2007 at Sugar Hut, a nightclub in Brentwood, Essex. A second ceremony in her mother’s back garden was shown on MTV on 2 September 2007. It was later revealed that Marsh had the wedding paid for by sponsors who believed that the wedding was genuine. The couple split up in December 2007. Marsh later admitted to ''Love It'' in their 8 January 2008 issue that ".. the marriage was for TV. It was never for real" and "I'm not hiding the fact I did the TV show for money. Of course I did".
Marsh wrote a weekly column for celebrity gossip magazine ''Sneak'' until its closure in August 2006 and was previously ''Zoo Weekly'' magazine's "sexpert", advising men on sex-related issues. Her choice as an agony aunt angered some established professionals. She defended herself against these claims stating, "I haven't exactly got a degree in psychology, but I just love sex, don't I?"
Briefly in 2008, Marsh reportedly dated a woman, known as Nina, a hairdresser. In the November issue of the UK edition of ''Star'' magazine, Marsh gave a full interview about their relationship and recreated the iconic ''Vanity Fair'' front cover depicting Cindy Crawford shaving k.d. lang. She is a vegetarian and she participated at the Peta's campaign "All animals have the same parts".
On 24 March 2006, Liberal Democrats education spokesman Phil Willis questioned Schools Minister Jacqui Smith in Parliament as to whether Marsh should be permitted access to schools in promoting her BeatBullying work, describing her blog as "the language of an appalling bully". Smith responded that, "Jodie Marsh does not represent the Department for Education and Skills in any way. Decisions about giving people access to pupils in schools are a matter for individual head teachers and governing bodies." Marsh described Willis as "just a sad, past-it old wannabe trying to get famous off my back." Willis later told the ''Daily Mail'', "I just think we are descending really to the lowest common denominator when we are actually putting people on a pedestal like Jodie Marsh to send into our schools. I think we could find better role models."
On 11 August 2006, Marsh was booed by spectators at the annual Jersey Battle of Flowers Parade where she was a celebrity guest. The combined fee for Marsh and the parade's other celebrity guest, Andy Abraham, was estimated as £20,000. It has been suggested that this expense and the quality of the celebrity it bought contributed to the negative reception, but it was also noted a very small minority of people that were involved in the booing.
On 16 May 2007, Marsh stood atop a giant wedding cake in Leicester Square in London, dressed in a white tutu, with two white belts covering her nipples and carrying a bridal bouquet to promote her upcoming reality series ''Totally Jodie Marsh''.

Paul Robert Potts (born 13 October 1970) is an English pop opera tenor who won the first series of ITV's ''Britain's Got Talent'' in 2007, singing an operatic aria, "''Nessun dorma''" from Puccini's "Turandot". As a singer of operatic music, Potts recorded the album ''One Chance'', which went to #1 in nine countries. Prior to winning ''Britain's Got Talent'', Potts was a manager at The Carphone Warehouse and also performed in amateur opera from 1999 to 2003.
He earned an Honours degree in 1993 from University College Plymouth St Mark & St John, majoring in Humanities. In several interviews, Potts revealed that he performed ''Aida'' despite doctors' wishes to remove an adrenal tumour they had discovered during his illness from a burst appendix, and shortly after the tumour surgery performed ''Manon Lescaut'' . Potts broke his collarbone and suffered whiplash in a bicycle accident in 2003. The mishap and financial difficulties that followed led him to enter ''Britain's Got Talent'' despite not having sung in years.
He also participated in the soundtrack of epic Korean drama ''Queen Seondeok (TV series)'', singing two major characters', ''Deokman'' and ''Yushin'''s love theme "Passo Dopo Passo" in Italian, meaning "Step by Step". He has also performed a duet with world famous soprano, Hayley Westenra, ''Sei Con Me'', featured in his album ''Passione''.
Potts auditioned for Simon Cowell's new talent show ''Britain's Got Talent'' at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on 17 March 2007. The audition was televised on ITV1 in the UK on 9 June 2007. Potts sang the full rendition of Giacomo Puccini's "Nessun dorma", which was condensed for broadcast, and he received a standing ovation from the audience of 2,000 people.
In the semi-final on 14 June 2007, Potts performed the main verses of Andrea Bocelli's "''Time To Say Goodbye''". He progressed to the final after receiving the highest public vote in that show. He performed "''Nessun dorma''" again for his finale on 17 June 2007, as well as an encore after he won the competition. Potts defeated the bookmakers co-favourite Connie Talbot, and received the highest percentage of two million votes cast to win £100,000, and the honour to perform at the ''Royal Variety Performance'' on 3 December 2007, in front of Queen Elizabeth II. His version of "Nessun Dorma" on ''Britain's Got Talent'' has over 100 million combined views on YouTube.
In July 2007, Potts performed his rendition of "''Nessun dorma''" at a Katherine Jenkins concert at Margam Park. On 16 July 2007, his debut album ''One Chance'' was released in the UK, and claimed the #1 spot in the UK Album Chart the following week. In December 2007, Prime Minister Gordon Brown presented Potts with a platinum disc for having sold 2,000,000 copies of his album.
On 13 December 2007, he performed in Leipzig in the live television broadcast of the 13th annual José Carreras Gala, accompanied by the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg under the direction of Scott Lawton. In January he began his concert series of 97 concerts in 85 cities across 23 countries; this ended on 12 November. This included three outdoor classical music concerts with the Finnish violinist Linda Brava and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at Sofiero Palace, Sundbyholms Castle and Slottskogsvallen from 24 to 26 July. In the semi-finals of the 2009 series of Britain's Got Talent, Potts appeared in a comeback performance.
In July 2008, Deutsche Telekom began using a TV and cinema advertisement centred on his ''Britain's Got Talent'' performance. In August 2008, he did a now famous duet with Daniel Powter on the Wolfbaggin' Tour. In October 2008, Paul Potts sang in Japanese TV advertisements for Ryukakusan Direct throat medicine manufactured by Ryukakusan. Potts received two nominations at the Echo Awards 2009 in Germany: Best International Male Artist and Album of the Year. He won the 2009 Echo Award for Best International Male Artist on 21 February 2009. On 22 April 2009, Potts was the guest co-host on the Australian television programme ''The Morning Show'' with Kylie Gillies. Expanding his talent to the online world, Paul Potts recently performed an exclusive in studio performance for AOL Sessions. He collaborated with Swedish singer ''Carola Häggkvist'' on her Christmas album ''Christmas in Bethlehem'', singing the "O Holy Night.". Potts has appeared twice on the popular Korean Talent TV show "Star King", first in 2008 and once again in 2010.

Generally considered one of the driving forces of Cool Jazz, Konitz has also performed successfully in bebop and avant-garde settings. Konitz was one of the few altoists to retain a distinctive sound in the 40s, when Charlie Parker exercised a tremendous influence on other players.
Konitz, like other students of pianist and theoretician Lennie Tristano, was noted for improvising long, melodic lines with the rhythmic interest coming from odd accents, or odd note groupings suggestive of the imposition of one time signature over another. Paul Desmond and, especially, Art Pepper were strongly influenced by Konitz.
Konitz's association with the Cool Jazz movement of the 1940s and 50s, includes participation in Miles Davis' epochal ''Birth of the Cool'' sessions, and his work with Lennie Tristano came from the same period. During his long career, Konitz has played with musicians from a wide variety of jazz styles.
Konitz eventually moved from tenor to alto. His greatest influences at the time were the swing big bands he and his brother listened to on the radio, in particular Benny Goodman. Hearing Goodman on the radio is actually what prodded him to ask for a clarinet. On the saxophone he recalls improvising before ever learning to play any standards.
Konitz began his professional career in 1945 with the Teddy Powell band as a replacement for Charlie Ventura. The engagement apparently did not start out smoothly, as Ventura is said to have banged his head against a wall when Konitz played. A month later the band parted ways. Between 1945 and 1947 he worked off and on with Jerry Wald. In 1946 he first met pianist Lennie Tristano and worked in a small cocktail bar with him. His next substantial work was done with Claude Thornhill in 1947, with Gil Evans arranging and Gerry Mulligan as a composer in most part.
In 1949 he teamed up with the Miles Davis group for one or two weeks and again in 1950 to record ''Birth of the Cool''. Konitz has stated that he considered the group to belong to Gerry Mulligan, and credits Lennie Tristano as the true forebearer of "the cool". His debut as leader also came in 1949, with the release of ''Subconscious-Lee'' on Prestige Records. He also turned down an opportunity to work with Benny Goodman that same year—a decision he is on record as regretting.
In the early 1950s, Konitz recorded and toured with Stan Kenton's orchestra. In 1961, he recorded ''Motion'' with Elvin Jones on drums and Sonny Dallas on bass. This spontaneous session, widely regarded as a classic, consisted entirely of standards. The loose trio format aptly featured Konitz's unorthodox phrasing and chromaticism.
Charlie Parker lent him support on the day Konitz's child was being born in Seattle, Washington with him stuck in New York City. The two were actually good friends, and not the rivals some jazz critics once made them out to be. He has also had problems with his heart which he has received surgery for in the past.
In 1967, Konitz recorded ''The Lee Konitz Duets'', a series of duets with various musicians. The duo configurations were often unusual for the period (saxophone and trombone, two saxophones). The recordings drew on very nearly the entire history of jazz, from Louis Armstrong's "Struttin' With Some Barbecue" with valve trombonist Marshall Brown to two completely free duos: one with a Duke Ellington associate, violinist Ray Nance, and one with guitarist Jim Hall.
Konitz contributed to the film score for ''Desperate Characters'' (1971).
Konitz has been quite prolific, recording dozens of albums as a band leader. He has also recorded or performed with Dave Brubeck, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan, Elvin Jones and others. Amongst his latest recordings are a pair of trio dates with Brad Mehldau and Charlie Haden released on Blue Note as well a live album recorded in 2009 at Birdland and released by ECM in 2011 featuring the same lineup with the addition of drummer Paul Motian.
Konitz has become more experimental as he has grown older, and has released a number of free and avant-garde jazz albums, playing alongside many far younger musicians. He has released albums on contemporary free jazz/improv labels such as hatART, Soul Note, Omnitone and the aforementioned ECM.
He was scheduled to appear at Melbourne's Recital Centre as a key attraction of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. However he fell ill causing the last minute cancellation of the performance.
Crafted out of numerous interviews between the author and his subject, the book offers a unique account of Konitz’s life and music, detailing his own insights into his musical education and his experiences with such figures as Miles Davis, Stan Kenton, Warne Marsh, Lennie Tristano, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell and Bill Evans.
