Welcome to the home page of 'Peter's Project', a campaign to bring improved cancer care services to south-west Victoria. The project is named in honour of Peter Jellie who lost his life to cancer, and aims to integrate and develop cancer care services to provide a one-stop shop for patients in south-west Victoria and south-east South Australia.

The campaign was officially launched on Wednesday February 17, 2010 at the Warrnambool Art Gallery. The launch was the first step in a long-term plan to create an integrated cancer care centre to bring radiotherapy services, a magnetic resonance imaging machine and other support programs to the region. The campaign will ultimately involve community fund-raising but will also rely on state and federal government backing. It is being supported by South West Healthcare, St John of God Hospital Warrnambool, along with other regional hospitals and a committee of community leaders, including Mr Jellie's widow Vicki.

The Peter's Project Committee is using a similar campaign at Wagga as inspiration. In that case the Wagga community raised $4 million for a cancer care centre and generated that much again in in-kind donations. “If the community really gets behind this project the governments won't have any choice but to support it,” Mrs Jellie said.
